Review #2000!
I had the opportunity of having three especially amazing beers from Peg's during my visit in December, 2012. This ranks in between RareR DOS and Sun Exploder. All three were among the best beers I've ever had.
Thick, dark, black pour, topped with a beautiful, dense, creamy brown head that retained well and left nice layers of lacing on the goblet. I just can't ask for a better looking beer. Aroma of dark sugars and chocolate, bourbon-soaked wood, and as the name would indicate, a definite twinge of sour funk. The taste reflected the nose, nommy chocolate and dark malts, bourbon and vanilla, toffee, notes of dank wood, and an extremely well-balanced funky-sour presence. I got less cherry, and more apricot or green apple or even straight-up gueuze-like tartness, but I also had this side by side with Sun Exploder, and that was obviously and distinctively cherry. As typical with Peg's stouts, the body on this was full and smooth, thick and velvety, strong with alcohol, but not hot at all. Great beer, to be enjoyed slowly and at a warmer temperature. Want more, please.

A: dark midnight black, brown lacing slight cobweb around the sides of the glass
S:dark chocolate coffee, tart, funky, cherry, dark fruit, slight bourbon
T: dark cherry, tart fruit, bakers dark chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, vanilla, barrel flavor, wood, bourbon lingers in the background
M: thick viscous mouthfeel, good barrel aged feel
I: honestly one of the best beers I've ever drank. Delicious slightly infected beer

Tap into snifter - this is the second use barrel version of Rare DOS, which Doug says got a bit of an infection that gave it a very mild tartness/sour cherry flavor.
A: Pours pitch black with a finger of dense tan head. Retention is remarkable, it sticks around for the entire time I drank the beer.
S: Bourbon, toffee, dark chocolate, and sour cherries, all quite balanced. Very, very nice. I can't pick one out as stronger than another.
T: Very similar to smell, same bourbon, dark chocolate, toffee, and sour cherries. This is a beautiful, beautiful beer.
M: A bit lighter than the Rare DOS, but really good. Quaffable for an imperial stout.
O: This beer is phenomenal, a bit of sour cherry mixed with Rare DOS. The light infection works very well with the sweetness of the beer. It gives a light cherry flavor and lightens the body a bit. I'm impressed.
