Buellton is a small city located in the central coast of California's wine country. Plenty of vineyards, grassy knolls and beautifull tree lined hills. Luckily for the beer drinkers there is the Firestone Walker Taproom.
The word 'taproom' makes one think that this is a small tasting room. Not at all. This is a large restaurant with a good sized bar. The bar is in the middle and there is a dining area on either side of the bar. The atmosphere is rustic without being too western. The wagon wheel at the front door might make one think of cowboys and hillbillies but the decor is pretty mild on the inside. A few wooden barrels and not too much junk on the walls. A very pleasing and friendly vibe to the overall feel of the taproom.
The place is very clean and well manicured. The servers were very pleasant and did a fine job. When I stopped by a few locals sat down next to me and we instantly had a good conversation going. I lucked out and talked with some great people.
The FWB has a full menu for lunch and dinner. A very large selection of mainly American style food. Steaks, salads, chili, burgers, fish, pizza cooked in a wooden oven and more. I found the food to be well prepared and definately worth the stop over on my road trip.
I had the FW Reserve(porter) and the unfiltered Double Barrel Ale. I think these are the breweries best beers in my opinion. They also brew the Nectar Ales which are available at the FWB Taproom. I think the tasters are a good choice for the first time visit.
If you are staying in Buellton or nearby this may be the only place for some quality beers. If you are road tripping on the 101 this is a great stop for a pint and some food. They also sell growlers for the road tripper on the 'go.'

I finally stopped here after driving by a couple times a month for the last 5 years. Yeah, I don't know what took me so long either. Great place. Much bigger inside than I had expected. I was sort of in a hurry (I HAD to get to a home rewing meeting later that afternoon), so I didn't get a chance to try to the food, but I have heard good things. I had a pint of Pale 31 and then a pint of Wookey Jack. Both great. I loved the Wookey Jack. I had never had it before. I ended up getting a growler of it to take to the home brewing meeting, where it was a hit. Service was great. I was there on a Sunday afternoon around 12:30. I thought it would be more crowded, but I guess it is hit and miss. Prices were a little high, but I'm sure they get the tourist traffic stopping off the 101, so those people don't mind paying a little more. I am looking forward to going back and checking out their new(er) tasting room, Barrelhouse, where they have their stronger beers and their sour beers. Should be fun. I recommend this place to anyone driving by.

I stopped by here after briefly visiting the Brewery in Paso Robles. I decided to wait to drink and buy goods at this location, instead of the brewery, because of Barrelworks. At first I was a little confused, because Barrelworks is around a corner once you walk in the main building and it wasn't obvious. I initially sat down and the ordered a Parabola from the waitress only to get the reply "it's not on tap". I was a little frustrated because I had decided not to drink it at the main brewery and thought I was not going to get to try it. The only issue I had was the waitress didn't say, "you can get it just around the corner in Barrelworks", which I had to find out by myself. A small issue, but not handled the best.
I spent the rest of my time in Barrelworks, so I'll comment on that. The facility is beautiful, with a great feel to it. They have an amazing selection, they have several beers that they do not distribute and they are outstanding. Mostly Wild Ales and other Barrel aged yummies. Unfortunately, you are not able to get anything bigger than a sample and for $3 for a few ounces isn't cheap. I guess that is what you pay for exclusivity. They also have a very nice selection of bottles to take out also, example '10, '12, '13 Parabola, Anniversary 12-16 and '12 and '13 Sucaba. It was pretty amazing, although they are expensive. I would have given a 5 for selection if I could have had larger pours.
I didn't eat, but the service was very good. They have a great selection of merchandise in both the main area and Barrelworks.
Definitely worth going to if you are driving through or live even remotely close. Well done overall and amazing beer.

I am including the attached Barrelworks in this review, which definitely enhances the experience the Taproom has to offer. The Barrelworks has amazing beers to offer, many of which are not offered outside of the Barrelworks or the Brewery in Paso Robles. It's great to be able to try so many different barrel aged beers, from heavy barrel aged barleywines and stouts, to a dry stout aged in bourbon barrels for three years, to a few wild offerings. The barrelworks is definitely worth visiting. You can get a 3 oz. sampler of any of these beers for $3 or less.
As for the taproom, the food is good and the beer selection also good, though mostly limited to the more standard Firestone offerings (which are also great beers). The past two times of gone (most recently for the Parabola release event) I have gone to the barrelworks for a few samples and then the taproom for lunch, which has worked out great both times.

Checked out this taproom on the way back from visiting UC Santa Barbara with my son. Gives a whole new reason why I want him to go to college there!! Cool atmosphere...great beers...better than average food. I recommend the Wookey Jack (8.5%) and the Double Jack IPA (9.5%). Do what I did...have your prospective UCSB freshman drive you home after!

With already alcohol consumed during a short stay in Los Olivos, it decided to cap it off with a visit to the Firestone Walker taproom. The place is divided into two sections, with the bar in the middle of the two. The gift shop, which offers shirts, stickers, glassware, DBA mustard, and bottled beers, is located on the opposite side of the bar. During the afternoon, I saw a number of families here for lunch, which surprised me a bit. Maybe there's something about the food served.
12 different beers pouring from the taps. Standards like the Pale 31, Double Barrel Ale, and Union Jack are available, also a couple of the Nectar Ales brand (Red Nectar, Hemp Ale), and a few tap only options (pilsner, Unfiltered DBA). The beers are available in three different sized, and that's saying nothing about the sampler platter. 20 ounce servings are well priced at $5.50.
While there were several servers at the bar, it did take a little longer than I anticipated to cash out. Also, if you purcahsed something from the gift shop, you will need to pay for it at the bar. Still, it was a very minor dent to an otehrwise good visit.
