Deep deep brown in color with auburn highlights. Thin light tan head. Smells wonderful. Piney resinous hops. Roasted malt, touches of anise.
Great Black IPA. Piney and citric hops on the tip of the tongue roll into subdued yet balancing roasted chocolate and coffee malt. Touches of caramel on the very back end of the tongue. Spicy rye compliments the hop profile on the back end of the tongue but isn't overpowering. the rye plays a big part in clearing the palate the palate providing a very rare moment in the world of rye beer, amazing balance. While the rye is critical to the spicy taste of the beer, it still allows other flavors to come through. Very amazing.
big full mouth feel.
I normally dont like rye beer but this one uses other flavors to compliment the spicy notes of the rye rather than just let the rye be the only star of the show.

Deep mahogany colored and opaque. A beige thick head settles out quickly. Low aroma of citrusy hops. Flavors of citrusy hops, morphing to orange rind pith, mix of pine and rye spice. Good balance of hops and malt, leaning more towards the hops, but good presence for the roasty dark malt. Rich and full mouthfeel, creamy, finishes a bit tannic. Good beer overall.

Bomber poured to Darkness stem.
A- Dark. Black color with a light brown head that dissipates quickly. Looks very much so at home in the trusty Darkness glass I usually use to review at home.
S- Hops with rye highlights but predominately hop forward. Good, hearty nose one this ale seemingly on the sweeter side with the nose.
T- Nice hop bite towards the front. The rye balances things out toward the middle and ends in lovely rich malt. Extremely well balances with nothing coming out as the star. The three acts are definitely present Hops, Rye and Malt in this ale.
M- Extremely drinkable at 8.3% abv and the layers work very well with one another. Medium bodied with the malt staying with you after the sip slightly longer than the hops.
O- This is by far the best Black IPA I have had to memory because there is evidence that it is, in actuality is an IPA. I have become quite sick of ale claiming to be BIPAs and are really just black ale with no hops detectable in the nose or the palate. Would buy again. Cheers.
