Pours a big, dense, tan head. Mostly hop in the nose, but if you draw on it long enough, there is a toasted malt aroma. Black. Starts off with an almost acidic/coffee-like bitterness of hops, builds into a hefty hop bitterness, but then this amazing coffee flavor just bursts through and mellows with the hops to form a really nice hop/coffee finish. I also love the thick, viscous mouthfeel!

This is well done. It's an aggressively roasted porter (the kind I like) with a WELL-MATCHED assertive hopping. I find West Coast brews to be generally overhopped and unbalanced, but they paired the intensity of the hops perfectly to the intensity of this malt.

Poured jet black into a 34oz mug, with a relatively thick light tan head. Smells clean and metallic, with coffee and chocolate undertones. Tastes thick and sweet, almost like an oatmeal stout at first; then fades into subdued roasted malts and chocolate. A great, full-bodied porter.
