Notes:
To commemorate our 3rd year anniversary we brewed this hearty wheat barley wine with piloncillo sugar and aged it for 4 months in Appleton rum casks. The result is something special; layers of caramel, molasses, toasted malt, oak and warmth. Cheers!

On tap at the Kedzie brewery, 5 oz. pour plus a little more.
Deep amber, reddish at the top, sunset orange at the bottom. Thin layer of foam, thin ring at the edges after a few moments. Nice clarity, glassy still surface.
Aroma is pretty subdued, slight sweetness, that's about it.
Pretty distinct rum flavor, brown sugar and coconut, overt alcohol. Minor almond cake and oatmeal. Huh. Wish it had a little more to it, just a big boozy sweet beast. Creamy feel, full bodied. Overall not one I'll personally return to, but if you're a rum fan give it a spin.

Pours the color of prune juice with a modest, cream-colored head. The smell is sweet and syrupy. I suppose I should preface my description of the taste with the fact that my palate had been totally skewed by a spicy pulled-pork sandwich, which I continued to consume while drinking. The taste is sweet and syrupy with a huge alcohol presence. The first sip really tasted like fire-water, and I'm no stranger to beers with a double-digit ABV. The best I can do to describe the malt character is maple syrup with grape--a pretty coarse sweetness if I do say so myself. If you like sugar and want to get buzzed, this should serve admirably. If you're looking for a more nuanced barleywine, you'd be better off looking elsewhere.

On tap at the 2013 Firestone Walker Invitational held at the Paso Robles Event Center in Paso Robles, CA.
Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, citrus zest, and caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with rum and spice flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with some great barrel aged flavors.

Big thanks to scalzo for this one! Bottled 1/13
Body is swampy, reddish brown with a wispy bit of carb on top that produces more legging than lacing.
Big, warming malts. Not nearly as sweet on the nose compared to Straight Jacket, which is something that I can appreciate. It's dry vanilla, berries, spicy booze qualities... I like this so far. It's not massive, just well-executed.
Fresh tobacco flavors, vanilla, tasty rum presence, a bit of that caramel and toffee. The addition of wheat to the mix is fitting and pleasant, although busy.
This stuff is really damn good.
