Notes:
A "not so small" beer brewed using the 2nd runnings of wort after collecting the super concentrated liquid to brew the Hugene Imperial Porter. Supremely drinkable, this brew is more like a true London-style porter, which was so dearly loved and and consumed for sustenance by all the men working hard in the London ports.

Reviewing the Weegene London Porter from Revolution Brewing Company. This review is from notes taken at the brewpub. The menu indicates that this is "a 'not so small' beer brewed using the 2nd runnings of wort after collecting the super concentrated liquid to brew the Hugene Imperial Porter."

Tap pour served in a 4 oz taster glass as part of a beer flight on New Years Day (01/01/12). Weegene is the second beer from the right. Review is from notes.
Appearance: Color is dark brown/black with ruby highlights around the edges. Served with no head save for a thin tan colored ring of around the glass. Looks light a slightly "lighter" in color version of Hugene. I can not really divine much lacing from a taster glass, but I think there is some splotchy lacing. I could be wrong. 3.5/5
Smell: Roasted malts, creamy malts, a little chocolate and smokiness. Also detecting light hops hints of toffee. 3.5/5
Taste: Roasted, slightly creamy chocolate and lightly spiced hops. A thin, watery mouthfeel washes away most of the flavor before I can nuance it. 3/5
Mouthfeel: Light bodied with mild carbonation. Overly thin, watery body seemingly negates the creamy aspects of the beer. 2.5/5
Overall: A ho-hum porter in my view, though, upon reflection, perhaps I simply do not like English style porters -- which, at least to me, tend to be thinner on the mouthfeel and lighter on the "flavor." I am glad I did not order a full glass of this, as was my original intention.
Recommendation: You can skip this beer. Revolution makes much better beers, including the Hugene and always available, super roasty Eugene porter.
Pairings: Lighter chocolate cake.
Cost: $2 for a taster, $5 for a pint.

poured into a pint glass from tap at revolution. Pours a nice dark brown color with a head that goes away fairly fast
interesting aromas of malts and hops mixed. Good depth with aromas of toffee, malts, bits of coffee and hops
lighter feel that is fairly refreshing. Good deep flavors of toffee, coffee beans, hops, and bits of citrus
I liked this. Wasn't fully sure what to make of it, but this is real nice as a session porter. The hop influence is kind of odd at first, but it is pretty refreshing

A - Black beer that looks brownish in the light with a bit of red on the edges. Bit of a tan head that left some lace on the sides.
S - Some bit of roast, sweeter dark fruits, bit of pine hops. This is a bit sweeter than I was guessing when I heard it was a porter. Decent bit of piney hops in the aroma as well.
T - For something with this ABV, it has some good flavor. Sweet, dark fruits, molasses, bit of roast, some piney hops. A lot going on, pretty good stuff.
M - Medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation.
O - Good stuff, easy to drink, and a lot of flavor. Would drink again.

On-tap at Revolution.
A - Black, tan-colored head, thin ring, spotty lace.
S - Light roast, light chocolate, some cream, tobacco. All very subtle, yet still has a decent amount of complexity.
T - Similar to the nose. Chocolate, roast, cream, some toasted nuts in there with light tobacco. Finish is roasted nuts and cream.
M - Light, good carbonation, creamy finish.
O - Really nice beer with some good complexity for 4.7%. Would definitely have a couple of these if offered up again. Nice beer we have here.

On-tap at Revolution. Served in a mug.
A - Amazingly enough, this looks really similar to Hugene. There's just a bit less viscosity to it. The thin tan cap is a bit more persistent and stuck around the whole time.
S - Chocolate, caramel, roasted malts, and slightly spicy hop character. Pretty solid porter aroma that's reminiscent of Edmund Fitzgerald and potent for the lower ABV.
T - Taste is more roasty with less overt sweetness. However, unlike many small beers there's very little char and carbonic flavor - just a bit of smoke. Light coffee and burnt toast flavors, and plenty of flavor for 4.7%, but could use a bit more balancing sweetness.
M - Fairly hefty medium body, with a nice dry, roasty finish and negligible alcohol. Texture is a touch grainy, and carbonation is lower than in Hugene!? Again, not your typical small beer.
D - One of the few Revolution beers where I actually looked forward to using my Mug Club mug - the first since Mr. Crowley and Workingwoman. I think this tastes better than Half Acre's Alpenglo, but it doesn't smell quite as good.
