Had on tap at Bad Apple, got the last of it as the keg kicked. Served in a New Holland High Gravity Series flute.
A: Pours a solid jet black, very opaque, with a 2 finger, thick-looking head. The retention is very solid and leaves some sticky lace down the whole glass.
S: Wow, what a smell. It smells like a decedant chocolate cake sitting in a Woodford Reserve barrel. The bourbon is integrated beautifully into a mix of mocha, milk chocolate, vanilla and caramel. Very good.
T: Well this is sort of a let down. The bourbon is there, but just barely. There is a slight charred oak presence, but it's masked by an oaty malt with a touch roast and a little chocolate.
M: Medium bodied, but a tad thin. I'm sure the barrel made it slightly thinner since this style is already a tad thin. The carbonation is nice as it's about a medium level. The finish is a subtle vanilla sweetness.
O:The smell is amazing on the brew, but the barrel doesn't really come through in taste and the flavors aren't as rich as the nose was. Still a very nice beer, but if they can match the nose to the taste and maybe give the body a little body this beer would be out of this world.

Served on-tap at Revolution.
A: pour is opaque black, creamy tan head, nice lace, some head retention
S: nose is rich with toasted marshmallow, coconut, waves of vanilla with roasted accents. Smells delicious
T: starts off with a dash of charred oak followed by tons of vanilla and coconut, chocolate joins the party and melds beautifully with The other components
Mf: smooth texture, nice full body, mellow carbonation
O: this is a delicious bourbon barrel stout, the barrels add a new complexity to an already awesome base beer. Hope to see bottles of this someday.

Barrel-aged Black Power
Poured @ the brewery.
Pours pretty black and opaque with cola edging.
A bit of lace.
The nose is chocolate filled with semi-subtle notes of bourbon. The base beer stands out still which is awesome.
The taste is great because the base beer is still noticeable underneath the bourbon offerings. Oak, vanilla, and caramel are noticed first, followed by the chocolate, roasted malt, and oatmeal presented by the base.
The mouthfeel is creamy and medium bodied. Not over the top but pretty comfortable. Could use a tad bit more viscosity.
Overall, GI Stout Fest '11 showcased the barrel-aging skills of Revolution and this is no exception. Great brew that puts just enough bourbon on the brew to taste the base beer and the bourbon. Labomba status.

A - Dark brown beer, looks black in the lower light. Some reddish in there. Has a small brown head that shrunk to a decent ring around the edges.
S - Nice oatmeal smell, cocoa, vanilla, wood, and bourbon. All blends together well, seems pretty promising.
T - Kind of ho-hum after the great nose. More of a roasted/char oatmeal stout than barrel influenced taste that was expected. Slight astringentcy on the end.
M - Medium bodied, decent carbonation.
O - Solid beer, think if they give this one another go it will get a lot better. Fairly easy to get down.

had this on tap at revolution. Poured into a snifter with a dark and small frothy head
very powerful aromas and showing off the whiskey barrels used. Has a port-like aroma to it with dark chocolate, raisins, and lots of malt aromas
full bodied but showing off some booziness to it. The flavors are alcohol dominated along with some dark chocolate and raisins
this didn't seem to handle the barrel aging too well. Tasted more port-ish than really having the barrel add more complexity

On-tap at Revolution. Standard Mug Club 5oz taster glass.
A - A light mocha foam settles to a thin cap and thicker collar, leaving plenty of sticky lace behind. The body is a very dark brown color with a glint of reddish transparency to it.
S - The smell is extremely enjoyable, with delicious earthy bourbon and barrel notes, semisweet chocolate, toasted grains, rolled oats, and oaky vanilla.
T - The taste doesn't live up to the promise of the smell, and is merely solid. There's less of the delicious Woodford barrel influence and more roasted grain, char, and a bit of cola nut as well. Far from unpleasant, but lacking in depth and punch like the nose.
M - A bit more tannic than I expected from an oatmeal stout, but I'm guessing the barrel had its way with the relatively light base beer. Managed to stay on the medium side of medium-light bodied, with pleasant moderate carbonation, and a slightly chewy texture. Doesn't have the creaminess I associate with oatmeal stouts.
D - Despite the slightly flaccid flavor and slightly thin body, this was still pretty enjoyable. Unfortunately it's closer to the bottom tier of Revolution's usually excellent barrel-aged offerings than it is to the top. Worth a shot if you're there, but not worth a special trip.
