Poured from a 22 oz bottle in to a tulip glass.

A- Pours a slightly hazy light orange color with a pillowy white two finger head and decent lacing.

S- This smells sweet and clean. Lots of grapefruit and other citrus aromas like lemon. Just a bit of pine and grass come through to round out the nose.

T- I'm having a hard time sorting this one out, but it's certainly spicy throughout. All I can say is this is extremely well-balanced and melds perfect proportions of bitterness, sweetness, and floral and piney notes together fantastically. No alcohol presence to speak of despite the 8.8% ABV.

M- Feel is as medium as medium can be, with nice prickly carbonation. Slightly slick on the way down.

O- A bit of a break from the norm, and definitely worth a try if you can find one.

I'm tickled pink to see yeast treated here essentially as an ingredient -- just as some breweries take one of their existing beers and barrel-age it or add organic fair-trade dark-chocolate-covered coffee beans to it, Lagunitas took its tried-and-true A Little Sumpin' Sumpin' Ale hoppy wheat wort and fermented it with the tried-and-true Westmalle yeast strain.

The result is an educational but also super tasty beverage with a fluffy white head on top of a sparkling deep-gold body. The aroma has what I call the "Lagunitas pop" of malt sweetness, but in this case it also holds a big, citrus hoppiness, plus some banana and coconut and Belgian-y spice notes. I also pick up what I can only describe as "wing sauce," but maybe that's just because I'm hungry.

The flavor has a wave of sugary, sweetbread malt up front, immediately followed by a citrus-y hop kick and some clove and fresh-ground pepper, finishing dry with a lingering bitterness. Tropical fruits, Belgian waffles, white peppercorns and medicinal phenols all make an appearance as well, though it's not really clear where the spicy/fruity hop flavors end and the spicy/fruity yeast flavors begin. In fact, this beer's seamless integration of the complementary and contrasting wheat, malt, hop and yeast flavors is nothing less than exceptional.

Everyone needs their elixir before they go to work. Ali drank water before a fight, Kobe drinks Gatorade before a triple-double, and even Jesus turned water into wine before his big day. On a recent Saturday night in Seoul then, before I beat it up, I went with the delicious Belgo-American treat known as Lagunitas' "A Little Sumpin' Wild" to likewise, give me strength.

Brought back from California on a recent trip home, some things taste better 6,000 miles away, in the cold of Korea, on a snowy December's night. Used as a heater of sorts, for the S(e)oul, I had no idea that upon opening, the scent would double as a floral arrangement for my hotel room. The smell was lively, seemingly jumping from the bottle, filling my frequent sniffs with images of Sonoma County Grasslands, where I spent a year in College, trying to find myself. Olfactory as a mechanism for memory!

Admittedly pouring it into glasses not worthy of the beer, it was the only option, as that is what was provided by room service. Still though, it came out an expected light color; the combination of the yellow of the Belgium flag, and the Red of Old Glory.

Palatable without being weak; it worked its magic, warming, but not overheating the atmosphere in the room. That would come later. The taste had hints of IPA's, visions of Saison's, and prayers of Trappist Monks, all combined perfectly, and packaged neatly into 22 pure fluid ounces. With the most noteworthy aspect of this beer being its smell, even that continued, flowing seamlessly into the taste, adding to it, and even remaining behind, long after being swallowed...

A: Clear yellowy copper, bubbly white head holds well and caps the glass fully.

S: Sweet cotton candy chased by grapefruit, florals and piney hops. With a vigorous swirl a ripe musky scent breaks free and becomes the low note for all the other scents

T: Bitters of grapefruit and pine followed by sweet notes of citrus. Grapefruit and lemon pith with piney finish and a hint of funkiness. Plenty of alcohol esters at the end.

M: Higher carbonation with dry notes, crisp and puckering.

O: Bitters and funk kissed with a little sweetness, chased by a pine tree. Plenty going on and possible more than necessary for some tastes.

Poured into a pint glass out of a 22oz bomber.

Pours a pretty hazy dark gold with a thin half finger head. Just a touch of lacing on the sides of the glass with a thin cap of foam remaining on top of the beer.

Aroma is definitely Belgian-esque but with a solid punch of American hops. Clove and banana mixed with tropical fruit. Their are also some faint hints of caramel. Really an amazing aroma on this one.

The flavor begins with a lot of Belgian spice from the yeast and a good hit of caramel. Clove and banana dominate along with some bubblegum. Tropical fruit that is typical of Lagunitas has a heavy background presence but never quite overtakes the yeast esters. Bitterness is on the high side but is nicely balanced out with sweetness. Finish is a little too sticky for me but with a pleasant alcohol warmth.

Overall, a pretty good Belgian IPA. The mouthfeel is a little sticky for me but the alcohol is well hiddent and the flavors nicely balanced. A real enjoyable beer.

O: an interesting beer because of all of the sour fruit tastes, not something you'll want to drink by the gallon though, could use more malt to sweeten and balance.

Excited for this one; I enjoy Lagunitas' beers even if many of them taste very similar. 8.8% ABV confirmed. 72.5 IBU. 1.079 original gravity. Cost was $4.99 at the Cap N Cork Junior market. 1 pint 6 fl oz brown glass bottle with standard pressure cap served into a Samuel Smith's conical pint glass in me gaff in low altitude Los Feliz, California. Reviewed live. Expectations are fairly high; I expect it to be about a B. Probably a B- on the low end.

Served after a slight warming period following removal from the refrigerator. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: Pours a three finger white colour head of no real cream, but decent thickness and good retention for the high ABV. Body colour is a rather pale copper. Transparent and translucent. Not horribly vibrant, but also not dull. There's nothing unique or special here. It's to style. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show. Lacing is weak and thin.

Sm: Floral hop notes. Grassy. Lemon citrus. Hop extract. Pale malts. Some saison-esque yeasty notes; I asssume this is the Westmalle yeast manfiesting. A bit of light spice. Straw. Borders on brett-y. Light fruit esters from the hops. Hop oil. A moderate strength aroma, and a pleasant one. No alcohol is detectable. Fresh and inviting. Peppery.

T: I definitely get the peppery biscuity yeast on the climax - a very clean and enjoyable yeast flavour often unseen in IPAs. Pale malts for the foundation, of course. Some blood orange fruit/esters. Pleasantly lightly oily. Saison-esque light spiciness. Some pineapple. Clove. The yeasty notes are rich and delightful here; wow. Floral hops are the dominant hop character, but there a lurking hints of pine. It's well balanced all around. Vague tropical fruit hints from the hops. Quite nectary. Has sufficient body. Clean and fresh, but also somewhat chemically hoppy as though from extract. The finish is crisp and evocative, giving a twinge of fruit before the flavour departs. The sweetness lingers in the aftertaste, a pleasant effect that leaves me wanting more. No alcohol comes through. Nicely built for the style, with no hop bitterness coming through at all. I like it.

Mf: Lightly oily, but primarily smooth and wet - just as it should be. Somewhat overcarbonated and a touch too thick. Nectary. Sticky. Chewy. All things considered, it supports and enables the flavours quite well, but it doesn't add to them. It doesn't feel custom-tailored to the taste, but the texture does a good job nevertheless.

Dr: Quite drinkable, though the aforementioned carbonation and thickness issues do hold it back. The high ABV is nicely concealed, though - making this one a bit dangerous. All around it's a solid beer in the style. The yeasty notes are a highlight; I commend that choice. A clean refreshing summer IPA, and another solid brew from Lagunitas.

That said, it does possess that mystery factor that makes most of these hoppy Lagunitas brews taste the same. I think it's the distinct hop extract notes; something about the hopping is always the same with this brewery - though I'm not sure that's a bad thing. I do wish it was more distinct than Lagunitas' other hoppy beers, but I can't say I don't like this one. In any case, it's far from unique.

I'd get this one again, and I'd even casually recommend it to friends. Definitely a seasonal release worth picking up.

Poured into a 13 tulip glass. Pours a clear orange yellow, with a two inch fluffy white head, that leaves plenty of lace. Smell clove, cut grass, citrus, and some hints of hard candy. Taste is very different from most of this style, equal IPA and belgian and that is what I love. Starts with the clove and finishes with the citrus and some grapefruit. Body is medium large for the style, plenty of carbonation, a little dry in the finish, and very approachable. This is really nice, one of my favorites in its style. Excellent price as always. Lagunitas had been in my fridge often lately!

A-pours a golden straw color with a sudsy white head with excellent retention
S-lemon,very "green" hop aroma, soft pine aroma
T-more of the bitter green hop flavor met with sweet malt profile and lemon in the finish.
M-medium bodied
O-huge hop flavor but malt provides a nice backbone. haven't had a ton of belgian IPA's, but definitely enjoyed this beer.

A: Color is a beautiful bright amber with minimal head and average lacing.

S: Smells of floral hops and caramelly malts. pretty nice but not overbearing.

T: Tastes great. A little Belgian flavor mingles with a pronounced citrus hop flavor and smooth caramel notes in the malt. Where is the alcohol taste? It's 8% and masked very well. Slight bitterenss in the beginning, but very little in the finish.

M: Mildly creamy and very drinkable. Not too much carbonation. Wet and a little chewy at the same time.

O: This is a delicious beer. It has wonderful malt and hop flavors that are great on their own but balance very well together and the mouthfeel is exactly what it should be. I would definitely purchase this again.

Pours a 1.5cm tall head of slightly off-white foam, composed of fine, small bubbles. Retention is average, and over its decline, the head leaves substantial lacing along the sides of the glass in assorted thick lines and shapes. Head falls to a thin cap atop the body. Body is a light orange color, transparent, with light bringing out very nice, bright, orange and yellow hues. Carbonation streams from the bottom of the class, visibly and aggressively.

Aroma is lightly citrus-influenced hops, but mostly funky, not in the sour sense, but in the Brettanomyces-induced wild yeast and bacteria meeting wet grain sense. A bit of banana ester and mixed tropical fruit esters rounds the scents out. Complex, enjoyable, excellent.

Tasting opens with mild Brettanomyces funk on the front of the palate, with some malt sweetness. Mid-palate continues the Brettanomyces-influenced wet, molding grain along with pineapple and a strong background of grapefruit and orange rind-like hop additions. This would be a very good Belgian Strong Ale if not for the substantial hop usage. Back of palate has continued, but increased hop bitterness along with a splash of ethanol that's more intense than I'd like, and some very modest pale malt sweetness. Lingering aftertaste of grapefruit rind, generic hop bitterness, ethanol, and light Brettanomyces molding, composting hay and grain.

Beer is medium bodied, with carbonation that is medium to high. This results in a mouthfeel that is prickly at first, eventually fading to a pleasantly tingling feeling across the palate that melds well with the attendant bitterness and ethanol burn. Ethanol present in nostrils and mild burning on back of throat, perhaps a bit too high, even for an 8.8% beer. Aftertaste is expectedly dry, from the substantial hopping and ethanol presence. There is also some substantial stickiness around the corners of the lips.

On tap at the Oak Cafe. Poured a golden-straw color, highly opaque and hazy with just about no light getting through anywhere but the very edges. Big, fluffy, white head that lasts quite a while, a nice characteristic of many Belgian styles; moderate lacing along the sides. Slightly floral and hoppy on the nose - a decent balance of bitter greens and sweet citrus. This smells like it's gonna be good.

The initial taste hits first with a sharp carbonation bite followed immediately by hops that stretch to the back of the palate; floral-like with a mild pine character, hops are certainly abundant here. Then comes the sweetness - super huge profile of fruits here, the heaviest being pineapple and grapefruit, with a mention going out to mango and pear. Phenolic warmth from the alcohol ties the citrus sweetness and hop bitterness together very well. The aftertaste comes around as the hops cut back through the sweetness to give a highly bitter and yeast-filled finish. Low malt flavors overall, but enough to balance out the hops, though they also have some help from the citrus and yeast. Medium-thick body with a bunch of carbonation.

This is a great beer, and a great American-made Belgian-style IPA. The hops are balanced very nicely with citrus, yeast, and a bit of malt while remaining highly bitter and pungent - truly a hard combination to pull off, especially this well.

Pours a cloudy amber colour with a nice bright white foamy head.

The smell is citrus hops, powerful and fresh.

The taste is very bitter, the citrus flavours really pack a punch.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation.

This is a pretty tasty beer, very bitter though. I'd say the regular little sumpin sumpin is a fair bit better.

A 22oz bomber picked up at Total Wine in Sandy Springs

A - A golden bronze, with fair amount of clarity. 1 finger of head, and some sticky lace left on the glass

S - Belgian yeast, candy sugar, and alcohol. Pineapple, spicy. Smells great!

T - Lots of fruits. Pineapple, orange, pears, and coriander. Sweet obviously. High ABV is well hidden. Smooth, and well balanced!

M - Light bodied, medium carbonation.

O - Another extremely tasty, well balanced brew from Lagunitas. Well done!

poured from a 22 oz bottle...great craggy, 3 finger head that hangs around throughout the glass, smells like same hop profile as most lagunitas beers...orange, pineapple, slight alcohol scent tickles the nose...great aroma.
taste follows the nose...fruity hops with a slight alcohol sweetness and a tad of barnyard funk thrown in. this is my first belgian style hybrid, and while i am not sure of the yeast used, it definitely imparts a unique twang to the taste profile.
very creamy mouthfeel...very easy drinking and all around enjoyable.

Purchased at the Whole Foods in Omaha. Poured into a tulip.

A: Pour reveals a head of about two fingers with an SRM of about 10. Head recedes to a one finger, poofy white cap and leaves a gorgeous lacing on the side of the glass.

S: Lemons, oranges, peaches and even a little bit of strawberry with slight malt. Can I get this as an air freshener?

T: Hop bitterness. Lemon rind, pineapple, peaches, mango and ripe pear followed by biscuity malts with a slightly pepperyness and more tangy bitter hops that want to be your friend. Faint alcohol taste remains with an ever so slight funkyness. Like hop fruit juice.

M: Medium, creamy mouthful that drinks like a slightly pulpy orange juice. Dry finish.

O: My first Lagunitas beer and what an introduction! Don’t hesitate to pick it up if you see it. Sets the bar for Belgian Style IPA's.

A: Clear amber with a slight tan head that dissipates pretty fast. Decent lacing.

S: Grapefruit, hops. Light smell of malts and yeast. Citrusy.

T: A nice blend of malts and hops with a slight yeasty finish. Smooth, fruity. The alcohol slinks in for a subtle buzz.

M: Light to medium. Good carbonation.

O: Really enjoyed this one. I'm not a hop head, but the blending made this a delicious quaff.

On tap at Kickbacks in Jax. Poured into a snifter. Almost white head, high retention on a slightly hazy, golden body. Suddsy lacing, receding to reveal oily clear, sticky resinous lacing. Double barreled lacing? Cool. Aroma is a beautiful fruity, citrusy grapefruit with some malty sweetness, candi sugar and belgian yeasty goodness. Taste is wonderfully hopped, piney and grapefruit, mild sweetness with a fruity, yeasty. Ever so slight alcohol presence, amazing for 8.8%. Tongue coating mouthfeel. I guess this beer is the result of mixing two of the worlds best things, pacific northwest hops and belgian yeast.

This is now one of my favorite beers This was the first time I have tried it. It is a limited release and I suggest giving it a go!

A - Clear yellow/gold with good head and lacing with a good bit of carbonation.

S - Citrus, mostly orange, with hints of vanilla and pine.

T - A nice hoppy and citrus front with a nutmeg and vanilla finish, great taste with subtle alcohol in the end. If I didn't know it was 8.8 I would have never guessed!

M - creamy feel. Feel thicker than it is.

O - One of the better IPA of any category that I have had. I will buy up the remaining bombers at my local store. I feel it is a hands down must try for any IPA connisseuor!

Bright yellow body topped off with a chunky white head. Powerful aroma reeling with muskmelon, bubblegum, and lemon. Zing and zest abound with every mouthful. Malt-like with a tangy bitterness. Medium-bodied; chewy.

Based on the name, I was initially expecting something like a Flemish wild ale, but this is most definitely a distinctive, complex, and extremely well-balanced IPA. A wild and outstanding beer; one that every IPA casual fan and connoisseur should experience at least once...

This is a very good example of a belgian pale ale. A very easy drinker with subtle flavors.

I like the smell of the sour coming off the top, and the flavor of the sour is consistent in each drink.

The spice (coriander) is there, but it doesn't take over this beer.

I recommend picking up this beer. I'm going to get a six-pack the next time I go out.

Pred into a room temp pint glass from a 22oz bottle.

A- Clear golden sunshine in color, A fluffy white 2+ finger head that lasts and leaves lots of sticky lacing rings.

S- Some light fruits, apple and pear, along with some yeast and spice. Then there's the hop pine and a slight hint of citrus as it warms. Wow.

T-This is a hop flavored BIPA. For me, that's quite good. Sure, the yeast and fruits are there in the end, but citrus hops are the line leaders.

M- Good body and carbonation, a great feel. Loads of hop tang up front with a yeast, Belgian ale finish, and that yeast lingers. There is nice balance no alcohol burn.

O- The best BIPA that I've had to date.

The great thing about Lagunitas is the fact they really strive for a balanced beer now matter what the style. This is hoppy and big as expected but the Belgian yeast strain adds some funk to the beer that blends with the IPA profile. I loved the long finish that was hoppy yet yeasty . Very unique from other Belgian IPAs and way too drinkable for the ABV.

22 oz bottle was poured into a large Duvel snifter.

Appearance: This beer poured a hefty one finger head that has reduced to a thin layer. It is a pale orange color with great clarity and vision of carbonation coming up through the glass. Also, nice lacing on the glass as the beer was drank too.

Smell: This stuff smells delicious. Apples, pears, vanilla, spices, mangos, pineapples, yeast esters, pine, and some caramel malts too.

Taste: Major hop bomb. Bitterness is there and lingering. Alcohol is hidden well. Flavors mentioned above are blended well together. This stuff is nice.

Mouthfeel: smooth, lingering bitterness, medium carbonation, medium bodied, some stickiness, and very drinkable.

Overall: Nice and solid BIPA. Very little to complain about this beer other than the huge hop bomb that gives this beer a lot of bitterness. I like it, but fan see how some might not.
