Lagunitas - Wilco Tango Foxtrot - 1pt 6fl oz bottle

Look - Pours brown and full bodied with a full, foamy head. Good lacing. Minimal carbonation. Nice dark amber/red hue.

Smell - Sweet malt with a pinch of hops. Roast nuts (walnuts?).

Taste - Bitey malt with a light hop influence. Caramel and sweet dates or figs.

Mouthfeel - Malt rests a bit strong but not sticky or overly sweet. Decent drinkability.

Overall - Solid brew, nice change of pace from hoppier brews. Lagunitas knows what's up and continues to impress.

A: A very clear, light cola color, with very little particulates in suspension. Pours with about two fingers of creamy, beige head, made up of fine to medium sized bubbles. Leaves a moderate amount of lacing as it drinks.

S: The label does not lie; it's malty from the start, though you can smell some nice flowery hops to balance.

T: Sweet, caramely malts dominate, with later hints of coffee and maybe dark chocolate. Finishes with medium to medium- hops that do a decent job to balance the taste. Covers the 7.85% abv well, without tasting boozy at all.

M: Medium to medium+ body; a bit bigger and bolder than their IPAs. Big, thick, and a bit oily; the carbonation is medium to medium+ and feels pleasant.

O: Very good beer. This is a full-flavor beer that doesn't assault your tongue with hops. If you're someone that wants more flavor, but doesn't enjoy being mugged by hops, this is an excellent choice. Similar to Lagunitas Censored beer, only exaggerated a bit. Very good.

Appearance - Pours brown with a slight golden hue. Head builds beautifully to a little over finger width, then works it's way down to a fine sheet of ever-present microbubbles on the surface. Lacing is spotty, with good stick.

Smell - Distinct citrus hops. Sweet red grapefruit and hints of sugared orange pieces. Mildly spicy. Fruity esters. Touches on bread.

Taste - Big ruby red grapefruit note upfront and resonates through to the finish. Bready malts and subtle dried fruit notes mid-taste, then faint brown sugar sweetness and earthy nuttiness toward the finish. More sweet than bitter, but fairly balanced overall.

Mouthfeel - Medium body, with a bit of creamy carbonation. Smooth. Goes down rather nicely.

Overall - Reminiscent of many of the Lagunitas releases, but less aggressively hopped. Fairly mellow all-around, though not for lack of flavor. Definitely opens up as the beer warms. A solid example of what I feel should be a recognized style, an Imperial Brown.

Served on tap in a 16oz pint glass. Beautiful translucent brown color topped with a 3/4" head. Good looking, persistent lacing. Aroma is crisp, with spicy undertones and a alcohol heat. The flavor is classic brown ale, and also classic Lagunitas - this is a beer that gives you exactly what you expect when you order it.

Appearance: This beer looks awesome. A wonderful creamy head which came out to about 2 fingers. Carbonation was huge throughout. Such a dark red color. Really beautiful, so clear but at the same time such a rich color.

Smell: This is all Lagunitas right here. The spicy crisp hops are all over the aroma. Very similar to most of their brews. There is some very smokey malt and bitter chocolate on the undertones.

Taste: Complexity. The really exotic malt hits right away. Spicy hops carry this beer throughout the body. But the malt blast through again on the aftertaste and create a very wonderful touch. Beyond the major players there is so much going on here. Bitter chocolate, caramel, and citrus hops. The flavors mix together here very well. This beer comes together nicely for a very easy drinker.

Mouthfeel: Thick and creamy. Heavy mouthfeel but has wonderful qualities of a hoppy beer.

Overall: Lagunitas does it again. Something off the beaten path here but has that feel of one of their beers for sure. At $3.99 a bomber, you cannot do much better dollar wise.

Poured from a 22oz in to a snifter.

A- Pours a nice reddish brown, with a inch or so head that went down rather fast. A very nice looking beer!!! Like something some ridiculous rich caricature would drink in front of a fire.

S- A good smell of piney hops, on the mild side. Earthy and malty.

T-sweet malt that goes right into mild hops. Hops seem to come out more after the swallow. Well blended taste nothing to over powering.

M- Smooth. Mildly carbonated , with medium body.

O-Very drinkable beer. well blended flavors, great taste. Not as hoppy as I thought it would be, but nonetheless great!

Dark pour with sticky thick head. Very deep red in color, like mahogany. Smell is odd in my opinion, lots of malt, but too bready and yeasty, slightly boozey, and slightly nutty. Flavor is mostly malts, like a heavy duty brown ale. To me it also had hints of soy and is mildly salty. Slightly sweet, like brown sugar. Overall, drinkable but a little odd for me to want to recommend.

22 oz bomber poured into a 24oz glass -- slow down the side for the first half, then slow right down the middle for a little head.

Appearance is Coca Cola brown. This could be a stealth trick! I got a thumb of creamy tan head that dissolved fairly quickly and left soap-scum rings around the glass where I paused my drinking.

The predominant smell was the Lagunitas hops note with the added malty almost sulfur undertones similar to Sucks. There is pine in the smell but less citrus and almost none of the floral notes. A vanilla smell comes out as the beer warms a bit. The smell is good but hardly remarkable.

The taste is very good. It's got the big hops bite that I like. It's kind of disturbing that most Lagunitas beers share a significant portion of the same flavors -- which is that predominant hops profile. On the good side, I LOVE that hops profile and it's what keep bringing me back. The malt aspects are pretty minor and only stand out when compared to a lighter ale like Little Sumpin' Sumpin'.

I don't know what mouthfeel is, but the dank hops linger on the tongue after I swallow and I like it when this happens.

Would Drink Again. 'Nuff said.

Poured into a pint glass out of a 22oz bomber.

Pours a clear deep brown with a rocky white head. The head absolutely lasts forever and when it finally begins to settle, tons of lacing sticks to the sides of the glass.

Aroma is a little bit on the one dimensional side with lots of tropical citrus hops. There is a little bit of cocoa in the background giving this almost a bit of an American Black Ale character.

The flavor really has a lot more going on than the aroma. Tropical hops with a little bit of pine is quite prominent once again but there is much more in the way of cocoa and dark toasted malt. Some brown sugar along with a little bit of raisin and other dark fruits as well. There is a light tartness throughout but it doesn't really distract too much overall. Bitterness is moderate to high and lasts for awhile after the finish. Mouthfeel is a little on the watery side but stickyness is very light.

Overall, a pretty nice Strong Ale but i feel it could be better. A little more roast to add to the hops would be wonderful.

Poured from 22 oz bottle into snifter.
A: Pours a clear amber-brown with just a faint hint of a head.
S: Nice balanced nose of clear caramel malt and crisp grainy hops. Hint of fig, toast, and cinnamon.
T: Toasted caramel malt, sweet spice, and a hint of muted hops. Not quite up to what the aroma was promising. A note of honey emerges with warming.
M: Light-medium body. Clear, fairly crisp, and a hint of sticky sweetness. Finish is dry with a hint of bitterness.
D: A decent brew, just not outstanding. Would be best enjoyed with a meat-based meal.

A: it poured a beautiful copper root beer like color. Very clear and well carbonated. Had a foamy off white head.

S: The smell was complex with a nice toffee malt, some dark fruits fig or raisin. Earthy hops as well. It smelled great.

T: toasted nuts and toffee malt. The hop flavor was a bit more pronounced. Had a bitter soy-like aftertaste.

M: medium bodied, dry mouth feel leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.

O: I'd say this was a good beer. Quite enjoyable the smell was heavenly and the taste was good but didn't line up with the pleasant aroma. I've not yet had a bad Lagunitas beer.

22 ounce bomber poured into a snifter.

A: Pours a dark copper color with a half finger head and very nice lacing.

S: Sweet malts, hops, sugar, and a touch of alcohol. Very inviting.

T: Nutty, earthy, roasted malts, some hops, and a little alcohol. Not as complex as the Bastards, my favorite Strong Ales, but pretty good.

M: Medium bodied with good carbonation. I wish it was a little heavier.

O: This is a pretty good Strong Ale, but is lacking in places. It's tasty, easy to drink, and hides the alcohol well. I'm glad I tried it.

22 oz. bottle, no date listed on it.

A - Color is a nice reddish copper color. Looks very similar to an IPA.

S - The nose has malts and hops to offer, but little more. It is pretty generic smelling. There is maybe a slight hint of booze smell.

T - It has a nice nutty flavor to it up front. Definitely some malt.

M - The mouth feels nice. The malt and hop presence sticks around. Definitely has some nice flavors to it.

Overall, a good beer, with the 7.2% alcohol masked pretty nicely. It isn't perfect, but it is pretty fine.

Poured from a 22oz bomber in a duvel glass

A- pours reddish brown color, Ruby hues to the light and sides... 1 finger of off white head... diminishes to a thin slurry over the beer, beautiful lacing to the glass

S- sweet candied sugar, slight raisins and figgy fruit. Earthy hops... screams American strong ale...

T- burnt brown sugar.. caramel malts, caramelized raisins.. earthy hop balance

M- sweet like candy, medium bodied.. almost slick and oily in the back... good balance of hop... spicey prickly carbonation. Smooth and buttery

O- this reminds of brown sugga... not as sugary and delicious of it bit maybe the base of the actual ale... this is delicious as it is and a fine example of American strong ale... I know nothing of this brewery but I"m liking them beer by beer....

Vessel: Purchased in a 22oz. glass bottle, poured into a teardrop glass

Appearance: Deep brownish red, good clarity with almost no head

Smell: Rich and malty. You can distinctly smell the alcohol in this beer.

Taste: You can tell right away this is a big beer. There is a strong malt character and a noticeable alcohol taste. The hop bitterness is not underplayed though, it comes through quite strong as well.

Mouthfeel: For a big beer, and as intense as it is, it dissipates quickly and doesn't leave any noticeable after taste.

Overall: This is not a beer for the masses. It is very malty and very hoppy which is not a combination you find to often. You have to be looking for a beer like this to enjoy it, but I did.

final of the beer trip bombers , poured from the bomber into a pint glass. nice fluffy head a deep amber color. aroma is hoppy with a bit of carmel . bit sweet in flavor with a nice crisp finish and some roasted flavors. pleasantly surprised with this beer can't wait to try other beers from lagunitas.

A- pours a light, transparent shade of brown with a two finger light tan heads that fades quickly, and leaves spotty and cloudy lacing. Love the clarity

S- smoke, nuttiness, a little booze, wood, tobacco. Very interesting aromas that don't mesh very well together

T- very bitter, tobacco flavor in the forefront. Slight booze in the finish. Very smoky, and not in the good way. Not enjoyable at all

M- thin body, a little shocking considering everything going on here

O- I dumped half the bomber. Just not good at all

A - Deep red amber with a large, eggshell white head.

S - Sweet roasty malts, pine, caramel, earthy and woody.

T - A fantastic blend of rich, sweet bready malt, earthy bitter hops, and zesty spice. Hints of caramel, pine, and dark fruit.

M - Crisp, lively mouthfeel. Medium bodied and smooth. Semi-dry.

O - A wonderful strong ale. Lots of flavor. Love the big, smooth malt character and zesty earthy hops.

The tastes begin with bready malts, hinting at toasted grains and with dark caramel and brown sugar sweetness. Adequate hop character of resiny pine and fruity citrus. As it warms you get notes of chocolate powder.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Malty, sweet finish, though there's a bit of bitterness that outlasts the sweetness in the aftertaste.

Overall this is a very good beer from Lagunitas. I wasn't quite sure what to make of it after the first few sips, but it certainly grew on me.

22 ounce bottle served in a Unibroue snifter.

Appearance: Pours a clear, deep mahogany color with an off-white head that has moderate size and retention. Numerous spots of lacing are left on the glass.

Smell: Clearly loaded with both roasted malts and hops, with piney-fruity-herbal hops dominate. Slight booziness apropos the ABV.

Taste: A good bit of sweetness from the malts hits the tongue first, but this quickly turns mildly bitter and remains so all through the aftertaste. Some sweetness lasting into the finish, nonetheless. Slight earthy, but a bit more fruity with hints of dried apricots. Overall, a nice, rich and complex flavor. [4.25]

Mouthfeel: Medium body and carbonation. Slight dryness in the finish. The aroma (more than a bit similar to an aged Hopslam) led me to expect a solid hop/alcohol bite on my tongue, but this was not the case with this rather easy-to-drink brew.

Overall: A satisfying and tasty brew. If you think you'd like a brown or red ale/IPA crossover, you'll probably like this beer.

1 pt 6 fl oz out of the Frugle's in South Kackalacki.

A- Dark brown with reddish tints. Fluffy head that dissipates slowly to a thin lace that hangs on the glass.

S- At first, it smelled a touch sour. Nutty, malty. Dark fruit and fig like. Some sweet vanilla on the back end.

T- More of the same as the smell, without the initial sourness. Alcohol is behind the scenes but present. Malty and strangely bitter.

M - Light on the carbonation, carbo is more present on the front end, more syrupy and heavy on the back.

O - absolutely enjoyable, best enjoyed with a heavy meal and as a first beverage. Unless you are looking for an end of the night knock out. This will work for that as well.

22oz into a pint

A - Has the heavy brown color that the bottle suggests. Some amber highlights. No head formation, seems low on carbonation.

S - Sweet and malty, hints of caramel and raisins. Strong hop profile in the background, citrus - almost could be oxidized but the flavors will tell for sure.

T - All malty up front, sweet, little caramel. Mid stream stays sweet, but this time from the citrus hopping. Finishes as sweet as it starts, some additional toffee.

M - Full bodied, sticky, clingy, thick. Little to no carbonation. No alcohol warmth.

o/D - A good beer, worthy of the try. Nothing too exceptional about it, just well done. I would have liked to have tried this a little younger to see where these hops flavors were at first.

Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of pine and citrus hops notes with huge caramel malt notes. Taste is also a mix between some huge malt caramel notes with balanced sweetness which is mix with some citrus and resin hops. Body is quite full with good carbonation. This brewery keeps putting out great beers. I wish I would have more access to them.

This one strikes me as a strong brown ale (and...apparently...that's what it is, now that I've read it here) with some thick malt tones with some spicy hop going on as well. It's an interesting ale. Not sure it really flows as an "Imperial Brown Ale", but it's a good drinker.
