Poured from bottle into SA Perfect Pint glass, no bottle date or code that I could find.
Pours an medium amber color, couldn't stop thinking of rust either when it came to the color. One finger creamy head that disappeared rather quickly. Lacing left at the top and the bottom of the glass.
I smell citrus and hops. The citrus is along the lines of grapefruit. The aromas are not the strongest atribute of this beer as I really had to work to pick up the aromas. Even as the beer warmed it was difficult to smell.
Taste is where this beer shines. Starts up front with the right amount of malty sweetness which is followed up by the grapefruity citrus and finally a strong hop finish. Very tasty indeed.
This is a medium bodied beer and has big alcohol content at 9.87%. The alcohol however barely makes itself known during the course of this glass.
One fine ale. I paired this with a mildly spicey chicken enchilada and it was near perfect. This beer looks and tastes great, one I will certainly be looking out for next spring.

A - Pours an incredibly clear amber with a monster 2+ finger light tan head. Retention is quite strong, lacing is perfect.
S - Sweet sugary toasted caramel malts, citrusy as well as spicey piney hops, very smokey, alcohol is detectable.
T - Spiced hops and alcohol burn up front, but transitions into a super sweet citrusy fruityness (possibly some figs/dark cherries) followed by more alcohol burn. (possibly some figs/dark cherries).
M - Medium bodied or less, appropriate carbonation - fairly smooth but the alcohol makes it just a bit less drinkable than desired.
O - Not that this is too much to handle, but the alcohol burn is just a little overpowering to the other flavors of the beer. Otherwise fantastic, just a little off balance IMO

Beautiful red color that turns a transparent orange-amber when head to light. A few visible bubbles cascading along the glass. One finger head on the pour. Descent retention for the strength and a few lace spots.
Complex aroma. Tropical and citrus fruits, pine needles, rye bread, malty. Buttered toast with cherry spread. Excellent balance in the nose.
Rich, hoppy, complex and dynamic palate. Floral, herbal, pine-like hop bitterness right up front. Balanced with spicy rye and smooth wheat malt. Chewy biscuit character. Toasty. Just enough malt character to balance but not enough to make the beer sweet or syrupy. Hop bitterness lingers through the finish.
Bordering on full bodied with an oily texture that turns dry middle to end. Lively carbonation especially for the strength.
Now this is good! A highly complex and yet perfectly balanced American barley wine. I wish I had another bottle.
