Poured from bottle into a pint glass. 2 finger fluffy white head, some cling, light golden coloring, lacks that deeper/darker color I associate with other APA's I rate highly. Smell is awesome. Has that quintessential Lagunitas aroma -- light pine hops, sweet flower (to be honest I think I can't adequately review smell because there is smoking allowed in this bar. Will have to revisit). Taste is similar to other Lagunitas offerings, but less flowery/creamy than Sumpin Ale, and obviously less bitter than the IPA. Still, it's sweet and malty and very good. Mouthfeel is nice, not too biting but also not terribly smooth, with medium carbonation. Overall New Dogtown Pale Ale is very nice, really enjoy the brewery and this fits nicely with other offerings. Pours a transparent amber with a white head.

The smells is very nice, citrus hops, lemons, earth and sweet malts.

The taste is bitter, lemon, grapefruit very much like the smell suggests.

The mouthfeel is light to medium body and medium carbonation.

This is another great lagunitas beer, very hopy and tasty.

A - A clear bronze with tons of head and sticky lace

S - Lots of hoppy goodness, citrus and piny hops

T - Quite a bitter pale, with a huge malt backbone. Not quite hoppy enough to be labeled an IPA, but close

M - Medium bodied, high carbonation

O - A good pale, but not great. Its really threading the line with an IPA, but not quite there. I'd rather go with the IPA

A: Golden-copper with a huge, fluffy, off-white head that settles into craters and lumps of foam leaving behind a ton of lace and retention.

S: Huge resiny, piney, grassy, citrusy hops. Sweet, caramel, lightly roasted malt at the back. Nice. I'd say malty enough to be a PA as opposed to an IPA which is what the hops want you to think.

T: Similar to the nose but the hops shine. Fresh, delicious and bursting with fruit and pine.

M: Dry, resiny, malty. Great hoppy finish balanced with some sweet malt. Well-crafted.

O: Just malty enough to keep this from being an IPA. A damn good PA that's enjoyable to drink. Glad I bought a 6-pack. The epitome of the style.

Bottle: Poured a light amber color ale with a relatively large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of medium bitter notes with some light residual sugar. Taste is a mix between some dry malt notes with some bitter hops and subtle floral aromas notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Good but not as hop-centric as I was expecting knowing the brewer other offerings.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy light gold with a one finger white head. Ok lacing and head retention.

Aroma is a wonderful bouquet of floral and citrus hops. A little bit of pale malt underneath but it is overwhelmingly hops.

Tons of hops up front in the flavor. Lots of citrus and floral. There is caramel and pale malt underneath lending support. Even with all the hop flavor and aroma, bitterness is on the mild side. Finish is very crisp and clean with a slightly watery mouthfeel.

Overall, a really nice, easy-drinking ipa. Somewhat lacking in body but it more than makes up for it in hop aroma and flavor.

12 oz bottle served in a Porter Bar goblet.

A: this has the powerful weed/citrusy hop aroma of an IPA, or even a DIPA. ABV is more like an IPA too, and partly hidden (although there is some harshness in the mouthfeel). The aromas seems clean even though it has some herbal/earthy elements in it and is reminiscent of skunky weed ... uh, from what I've heard.

T: plenty of hops in the flavor too, and they impart a clear impression of grapefruit in the aftertaste. The beer has a little sweetness upfront, and orange seems to be the predominant citrus flavor until the finish.

M: Medium body with a hint of syrup; medium carbonation; some warming and harshness from the alcohol (and hops?).

O: I would like to try this side-by-side with a Lagunitas Hop Stoopid (a favorite) -- I think the flavor profile is similar but less aggressive. At any rate, this is probably the most highly hopped APA I've ever had and would pass in a blind taste test as an IPA.

(revisited in June 2013 with a, most likely, 2013 bottle).

A: Pours a clear dark golden yellow to copper in color with light amounts of visible carbonation. The beer has a dense and fluffy two and a half finger tall off-white head that slowly reduces to a thin film covering the entire surface of the beer with a large thin-medium patch and a medium-thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of grapefruit/citrus hops with a very light underlying malt smell.

T: The beer starts out with a light to moderate amount of underlying caramel malts but then the grapefruit/citrus hop flavors really take over. Great grapefruit hop flavors with very little bitterness.

M: On the lighter side of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp and slightly sticky.

O: Very enjoyable and easy to drink - the alcohol is well hidden as this drinks like a 4% beer than the 6.2% that it is. Very nice aromas and flavors of grapefruit/citrus hops.

A: Pours a golden yellow color with 2 fingers worth of sticky bubbly head that leaves some nice lacing down the entire glass

S: Get a good dose of spicy and fruity hops along with a solid crackery malt backbone. Fairly aggressive for an APA

T: Follows the nose. Very well balanced while still delivering a big hop punch. Fruity hops combine with the crackery malts and make a great combination. Again, on the aggressive side for an APA

M: Medium bodied with low-moderate carbonation. Drying towards the end

O: An aggressive beast of an APA, this one delivers on both the malts and hops, maintaining a very flavorful balance throughout. Not very bitter, but it shouldn't be with this amount of flavors. Absolutely worth trying

A - Pours a crystal clear medium orange with a one inch off-white head that fades slowly.

T - Just like the nose. Subtel and balanced.

12oz foam bomb with no date into pint

Amber gold with a small sudsy head. Smell is pine, tree bark, sap, wheat, bready malt. Taste is pine needles, sweet fruit, apple, hay, wheat, cracker-like malt. Feel is a crisp medium, perfect amount of carbonation.

Huge fan of Lagunitas here, and this left me a little underwhelmed. That said, this is a well hopped pale, and supremely drinkable. Just not my favorite.

A: Poured a hazy orange honey with a small white cap

S: Fruity and floral with some crackers

T : Light crackery malts give way to apricot, grass, lemons and dish detergent and ends with an aggressive and lingering hop bitterness thats pretty obnoxious.

M: Light to medium bodied, finishes dry, over carbonated.

O : Overall worth a try. it would not be my first choice but I might drink it again if I see it.

The beer is clear light amber, has an high off-white head that leaves good lacing and has some curtains.

Smelling fruity, peaches, grape-fruit, grass and some toffee.

Starting with sweet bread, toffee, then apricot and grape-fruit marmalade, then bitter grape-fruit peel.

Medium high carbonation, sticky and fizzy, medium low body and a coarse dry finish.

A very hop dominated american pale ale, i'd like to throw in an "indian" as well.

A: Pours a dark golden, almost orange liquid with a fair amount of carbonation bubbles into the glass. A two finger frothy head forms. Huge bubbles in the head. It leaves a lot of lacings on the glass.

S: A massive smell of pine, grapefruit, pineapples, clementines and lot of other citrus fruits up front. Sweet malts at the end. The smell is very, very hoppy and fresh.

T: The taste is full of pine, grapefruit and oranges. It starts with pine and grapefruit before clementines takes over. At the end there are a dominant taste of orange and grapefruit peel. The alcohol is well hidden.

M: Medium bodies with strong carbonation. The carbonation bubbles are large in size. It feels a bit sticky towards the tongue.

O: A very refreshing American Pale Ale with a fantastic smell and awesome aroma.

A: This gets marked down for having an ugly, splotchy, white head. Large bubbles make up the carbonation. Gold body.

S: This smell reminds me of the hop character of Pliny the Elder. Not expected given the style is an APA rather than an IPA. Floral, grassy, and wild.

T: Much more hop-forward than a usual pale ale. Big grapefruit tartness at the beginning, floral in the finish with some more bitters.

M: Refreshing and bubbly mouthfeel seems to contradict the big flavors in this one. It's light and nice, but I feel like I want it to coat and linger a little more.

O: Really the best beer I've had in the style. I feel like there is some bias since I am an IPA fan. Really great, I'll look for this again.

Not sure why this took so long to get to. Not like it's hard to find or anything.
Classic and complex hop nose. Citrus and flower and grass - fresh and vital. Small malt grounding.
Very clear - almost lager like. White head that's initially kinda' noisy and it settles down in a bit.
Nicely balanced drink. Firm malt with soft pale malt. Very balanced hop flavors and bitterness. Long finish but the bitterness lays nicely.
A little light in the body and fully carbonated.
Very easy drinker. So nicely balanced of a drink. This one may have had a bit of age. but still was nice.

A: Pours lighter than I expected. A golden color somewhere between wheat and light orange with a rocky white head that really sticks around--though the glass I'm using (somewhat football-shaped) might have something to do with that. Seems to be leaving lacing as it (slowly) goes down. The body is completely clear.

S: Beautiful hop aroma. Grapefruit, mango, and other tropical fruits up front. Maybe a little passionfruit. Slight breadiness behind. One of the best aromas I've gotten on an American pale. I'm hoping the taste will match.

T: I like the taste slightly less than the nose, but it is a very nice taste nonetheless. The sequence is interesting. I get bitter hops right up front, with the citrus and mango through the middle, then a really bready finish. Really enjoyable. You don't have that lingering bitter hop taste (I find it a little unpleasant, but I prefer malty beers so that's no shock) that American pales will often impart. It reminds me of drinking grapefruit juice (in a good way).

M: A littttle light-bodied, but not in a way that noticeably diminishes the overall quality of the beer. Fizzy in a pleasant, refreshing way. No booziness on the tongue.

O: I really, really love this beer. It's pretty bitter up front so I think hopheads will appreciate it but it's also nice and balanced for beer drinkers like me who prefer a nutty, malty ales. Highly recommend this one.

A- 12 oz bottle into a pint glass didn't yield a lasting head . Crystal clear deep orange gold color.

S- Torrents of grapefruit rind. This is one hoppy pale.

T- The citrus hops in the nose are the predominant flavor with some malt notes in the background. The hop blast gives way to a pleasantly balance, dry finish.

M- Light bodied, a bit on the fizzy side but crisp and refreshing.

O- This is an excellent vision of a very hoppy APA. Just enough malt to keep it from being overly bitter. A fine session ale that will never get boring.

A - light, translucent amber with a thin layer of white head that fades to a lacing quickly

S - floral, pineapple, bready

T - bready malt up front with a citrusy, floral hop finish

M - crisp, medium bodied, a bit over carbonated

This is a very flavorful APA. It's bready, malty, and full of hops. The citrusy, floral hop character lends great balance and drinkability to this pale ale. I'll definitely have this again.

Poured from their 12oz bottle...

Appearance - Pours a finger of bumpy eggshell cumulus foam, color of the ale is a perfectly clear bright gold. Leaves minimal, but consistent lacing down the entire glass.

Smell - Citrus hops, fresh yellow grapefruit, floral hops, slight bready malt, smells good.

Taste - Wow, starts with big citrus, especially grapefruit and dragonfruit, then big white bread and malt, then minerals and green earthy hops, ends with dry breadcrusts, green grass and dry grapefruit pith.

Mouthfeel - Light mouthfeel, very crisp and brisk, extremely refreshing and thirst quenching, carb is medium with lots of edges and palate scrubbing, ushering the dry and slightly bitter finish.

Overall - Definitely a very flavorful and bright pale ale. I like this because the citrus stands out more than the other flavors, and the finish is very crisp and dry. 6.2% ABV makes this nearly sessionable, a great APA to knock back on a hot summer night, like I am right now. Another excellent Lagunita's offering.

A- Poured into a pint glass. Pours a pale golden yellow/orange color with an off-white head.

S- The aroma is very nice, more IPA status than pale ale. A lot of fresh citrusy hops make up the aroma.

T- The taste like the aroma is fantastic. There is some malt up front but the highlight is without question the fresh, bitter and flavorful hops. Delicious!

M- The mouthfeel is between light and medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation.

O- Overall, this is one of my favorite pale ales out there. Highly recommended!

Poured into a pilsner-style glass.

Deep tangerine with just a bit of haze. One finger of creamy white foam like egg white whipped into stiff peaks, slowly descends, leaving random, soapy spots of lace.

Nice nose. Grass, orange peel, a little pine, caramel, biscuits, maybe some juniper.

Almost a gin-like flavor and bite. Grassy, earthy. Tangerine pith, smooth biscuits, a little sugar. Great balance.

High, nearly painful, pinching carbonation. Just a touch of fizz. Clean, snappy finish.

Surprisingly good. Great balance, perfect bitterness. Very good on the patio during an Arizona spring day.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass, unknown bottled date. This pours a slightly hazy light golden color with a decent foamy off white head which leaves a lacing. The smells are of pine hops and caramel. The feel is medium with a mouth coating hop resin. The taste is pretty good, closer to an IPA which I really liked, nice amount of bitterness, good earthy flavor with a nice caramel backbone.

Picked up a 6er of these for the weekend

Review from a 12oz to pint glass

A: Pours a nice clear and bubbly pale goldenrod color with a good finger width of white foamed loose sitting bubbles. Stays for about a minute, leaving some soap sudded lacing upon the glass.

S: Smell opens bright with fresh catty hop pellet aromas that has real nice grapefruit highlights. Some underlying pine and apricot notes with a touch of pale malt breadiness. Rather nice nose.

T: Leads with real nice hoppy flavors of grapefruit flesh, light florals, and hints of pine. Lesser notes of peach, apricot, and melon fruit. Upper moderate bitterness. Underpinned with a dry bready pale malt base. Adds a touch of honey sweetness to the brew. No caramels here. Has a slight tart citric estery bite in the finish with some residual orange fruit notes. Whisper of alcohol. Nice hoppy and sessionable.

M: Very light body with an upper level of carbonation. Has a real dry crisp finish that encourages another drink. A bit of oily hop residue.

D: A doggone good pale. Like a lighter, less tropical version of Sucks. Granted this one has been out a bit longer but this light and hoppy pale is very refreshing and provides great drinkability.

Life is uncertain. Don't sip.
