pours a clear light amber with a small coarse head
smells piney and resiny, with none of the usual light citrus and passionfruit hop aroma of other american ales. Some bitter grapefruit, but nothing bright and fruity. smells dank and earthy. I'd sure like to know what hops were used, it's a nice change of pace.
taste is sharply bitter and somewhat thin up from. Not a lot of malt in this one. The same sort of hop character - bitter orange/grapefruit and pine tar.
Mouthfeel is medium.
Drinkability is decent, but it does leave you with a lot of resiny bitterness

The beer pours out a light golden color with a hint of amber and orange. The head is really huge on this one and very slowly dissipates.
The aroma has big fresh orange, lemon, citrus hoppiness. The hopping actually reminds me a lot of Hop Stoopid, which I had the night before. There’s also a sweet honey in the malt characteristic.
The flavor is quite exciting for a pale ale. Upfront, you just get grapefruit and lemon. It’s not huge juicy nor very bitter like an IPA, but it lets you know that it’s there.
It has this cracker malt at the middle that is enjoyable and sweet. Then the grapefruit lingers for quite a while and leave you with a good amount of dryness.
Despite this, the body is really light at 6.2% ABV. One could very easily slug these down quickly.
This despite being above 6%, this is still a well crafted “pale ale.” Then again, you could almost call it a weak or watery IPA too. However, the hops are there along with a good malt backbone. It’s a very good beer.
For those who want to know the date, put the neck of the bottle up to a light. It’s Julian dated with then the last digit of the year.

Pours a clear light orange with a half finger of white head
Smell is citrus hops, pale malt, grapefruit, grassy
Taste is incredible, Citrus, grassy, pale malts, herbal spice, tropical fruit.
Mouthfeel is clean and crisp with a refreshing carbonation
Oh my... I am glad a fresh batch finally came it! It seems the IPA sells way better around there then the pale which makes no sense to me as this is basically mini sucks and sessionable, World Class stuff if you ask me. Grabbed 2 6s of the fresh stuff (who knows when I will see it again)
This beer is definitely one of the best APAs out there
I have been leaning towards hoppy pales over IPAs lately because of the finess you get in the flavor. I just recently got to try ZD for the first time and had high hopes, but alas it was all bitter an little flavor. This is just the opposite all hop flavor no bitterness. I hope I can keep getting this around here fresh, perfect summer and almost perfect Pale.

At Red's 495 Grill (Carson City, NV):
Into a pint glass:
A: slightly clear gold/yellow body with a one finger white foamy head, streams of carbonation are seen rising at a moderate pace, some clingy lacing sticks to the pint glass throughout the entire drink
S: strong citrusy hops up front, a slight amount of caramel and bread follow up as it warms
T: bittersweet all the way down, wow! slight bittersweet aftertaste, crisp yet smooth finish
M: light, sessionable, carbonated exactly the way it should be, smooth all around
O: wow, what a nice APA, I can't believe I've passed up on this so many times and now I've finally had it and am kicking myself for not having it sooner

Pours splendid into a pint glass with a tall head of foam that fell ever so slowly to some sticky, craggy lacing. Classic copper orange color and clear. Nose was dry and the perfect blend of leafy hops and pale malt. A little grapefruit and a little soap. The malt in the nose gives a promise of sweetness that’s luscious and provocative. Taste is herbal, generous with hops, hay and silky with citrus that wasn’t overbearing. The malt backbone was aggressive and evoked some honey sweetness while standing up strong against the bitter hop oily resin. This was a full bodied and boisterous pale ale that was clean, thirst quenching and had a depth of flavor that was solid and satisfying.

Hahahahahahaha, the label reads, "This is not the original Pale Ale as brewed in far away 1993 in the back of the Old House of Richards Building in the West Marin hamlet of Forest Knolls right next to little Lagunitas...It is way better. Back then the beer tasted like broccoli and kerosene and the carbonation ate right through and drained your stomach into your gut..."
Pours a transparent gold with a massive head, pretty heavy carbonation and tons of ultra stick lacing.
Citric hops dominate the start of the smell, white bread and a hint of caramel follow.
Pale malts, cumquat/grapefruit, slight caramel and grassy hops make for a very balanced start to this APA. Smooth citrus and slightly mineral finish. Very smooth going down. Tastes very fresh, though I could find no date of any sort on the bottle.
Excellent hoppy pale ale. Certainly not as hoppy or heavy as an IPA, but very flavorful and refreshing. I'm surprised I haven't reviewed this before... or that I don't enjoy more often.

12 oz bottled May 8, less than a month old.
A: Clear golden body with nice 2 finger head. Good retention.
S: Huge hop aroma for a pale ale. Kind of like a Hop Stoopid-light. Excellent stuff.
T: Super hoppy for a pale ale, which for me is a good thing. Full of citrus and tropical fruit notes. A little bit of sugar but pretty dry. Light malt backbone that works well.
M: Good level of carbonation, not too sticky. I could drink a lot of these in a row without any problem.
O: Awesome pale ale from Lagunitas. I'll be buying more of this.
