Poured from a bottle to create a generous head with thick webs of lacing when the glass was tipped. The brew was a cloudy amber color with some bubbles visible.
The nose was sweet and malty with notes of caramel and honey. A little mild and difficult to discern but this improved as the beer warmed.
The taste was similar to the smell, with big caramel flavors and significant but not overwhelming sweetness. The substantial alcohol is hardly noticeable in the taste. Tasty and balanced.
The mouthfeel is balanced as well, and while the beer doesn't feel heavy as it is being sipped, I found the beer quite filling by the end of the bottle.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable amber ale that is balanced and would seem to make a good go-to beer for all sorts of occasions.

12oz bottle with Imperial Nonic glass
*Notes from 05/26/13
A: Clear copper body with some lively bubbles forming rocky peaks of khaki tan stuff on top. Real impressive hang time with some super sticky lacing work down the glass.
S: Aromas open with a firm waft of bready malts accompanied by a brown sugar sweetness. There are some light undercurrents of citrus fruit, pine, and herbal spice. Getting mostly bread and brown sugar here though. Nothing to fault but not particularly stand out.
T: Flavors open up much the same with a more pronounced bready malt base and brown sugar likeness. Not overly sweet but not much else going on flavor wise. There is a big herbal hop spice with a light dusting of pine and citrus however it is secondary to the malt character. There is a moderate level of perceived bitterness and alcohol is totally masked here. Nothing too stand out but still a nice little beer.
M: Moderate to low fullness with some light frothy consistency and a bit of drying crisp in the finish. Overall on the watery thin side with a relatively clean finish.
D: Nice little amber ale. Nothing very stand out but it does provide a solid quaff.

This became one of my go to's for the last few months while the store across the street from my house had it. just pulling the last out of the fridge. It has a nice hop load with out making you feel like you just cut the grass. I found it tastiest at winter time room temp (in my apartment that's around 65) Right out of the fridge it doesn't have as much character as some of the other lagunitas offerings. I found myself turning on Hulu and forgetting I was drinking a beer... but then somewhere between warm and hot it really shines. It's actually kinda nice when the second half of your beer is better than the first. (like when you spend too much time typing and not enough time drinking! wait for it.... yep tastes great!)
will drink again when it comes back...

Pours a deep red-copper color with a thick, creamy ecru head. Some sediment. Well laced. Nice looking brew.
Scent is very mild - fresh bread, caramel, not much else.
Taste is caramel malt, the typical nutty tea-like character of an irish red, and a touch of grapefruit hops. Honey.
A tasty red ale with a thicker creamier mouth than most reds and a pleasant zing of hops.

Rich amber color, pretty clear. Lots of floating debris in the beer. Off white almost light tan frothy head that has great retention. As it does slide down the glass it leaves an absolute load of lacing all over the place. Aroma is not very strong. Some grain in there, corn husk, little bit of hop in the back ground. The taste is caramel malt up front, also some grain. About half way through get the hops in there countering the malt. Some citrus. Little bit of toasted flavors towards the end. Slight caramel/chocolate. Light medium body. Smooth. Not overly carbonated. Well balanced beer. Really smooth drinkable ale. Doesn't beat up your taste buds too much. Not my favorite offering from Lagunitas but I would spend an evening drinking these.
