This is a great IPA and one of Lagunitas best beers. It is hoppier and bolder than their standard IPA. It pours an absolutely perfectly transparent bright golden amber with super sticky head and lacing. The aroma is a bit underwhelming, but still delivers plenty of hops and mild citrus. Huge hop flavor up front and some piney bitterness left behind. Sweet with some grass and mild malt. Dry mouthfeel. Similar overall to DFH 90 minute, but not as well rounded and complex. Still a great beer.

Review from scavenged notes.
Clear amber pour, bubbles of carbonation rise from the bottom of the glass, to greet a small fizzy white head. Aroma of herbal and citrusy hops, and not much else. More of the same in the taste, hops and hops, citrus pith, herbal notes, pale malts. Bitter and drying, light-medium body, tamed alcohol. Not a bad beer overall, but nothing amazing going on here.

Review of draught Hop Stoopid, to complement my review of the bottled version.
This pours a golden-amber tan color with tremendous foam. Cascading foam, in fact. The aroma is a full-frontal assault of grassy hops followed by an aggressively hoppy taste profile. Crank this one to 11. Grassy green, some pine, and a surprisingly light body deliver full-on hop intensity. I found some tropical fruit notes come through, with pineapple and floral notes dominating, and a lingering finish that mixed pineapple, floral notes, and some piney resin. If this is what you’re looking for you will not be disappointed. Not for the faint of heart.

A favourite that I can't believe I haven't rated. Bring on the Dipa, us beer is Black Flag, Fear, Circle Jerks, Dead Kennedys and Naked Raygun all in the same glass. Ok enough of the punk rock analogies love this double ipa and although my rating was on draft this was a bottle tonight and the Simpson's episode that inspired this rating.

On-tap at Flanny's in Tempe, AZ.
A: Golden-orange in color. Good lace.
S: Heavy hops. A little funky and earthy. Got the same kinda thing from the bottle a while ago.
T: Huge West Coast hops but they taste a bit old and funky. I think this beer just doesn't do it for me. Might be too hopped for its own good.
M: Can be cloying. Dry but smooth and easy drinking for the style. A bit of booze comes through.
O: I wanna like this beer because of the name and rating but it's just not gonna happen. I probably won't try it again unless I'm at the brewery.

A: 1 1/2 finger white creamy head. Copperish amber color. Crystal clear.
S: Citrus, grapefruit, peach, simcoe astringency, malty caramel notes.
T: Bitterness that hits the back of the throat. Sweet malty with very high sugary grapefruit tones. Alcohol isn't as noticeable as the overly sweet flavor.
M: sweet with faint hint of alcohol at the end.
O: Its not that great. Far too sweet for my palate. I like the smell but the sweetness is a little too overpowering.

On draft at the Stumptown Brewery near Santa Rosa.
A: Copper color, transparent, and active with tons of thick white head. Leaves insane lace on my glass.
S: Big grapefruit, caramel, and hop aromas fill the nose. Really love the caramel-y booze here. Among my favorite notes in an aroma.
T: Fresh, flavorful hops start to finish. Nice malty backbone with fruit and caramel sweetness complimenting the hops well. Slightly boozy finish with mild bitterness that lingers. Much better than I expected, honestly.
M: Nice body, perfectly carbonated. Would love more creaminess though.
D: I honestly enjoy this more than 30-day-old Pliny. I expected a giant hop bomb here, considering the brewery and this beer's name, so I was pleasantly surprised by the balance of flavors here.

Served in a tumbler at The Tribes.
The Accidental Highway to Hell Tour continues! And it moves on to a beer I should've had a long time ago, frankly. It pours a clear straw-amber topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises dark greens, light pine, toffee, and some very light mint. The taste holds notes of greens, toffee, caramel, very light mint, and very light lime. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta dry finish. Overall, this is a pretty solid DIPA, but it lacks a lot of the hop character I was expecting, both from the style and the name. Don't get me wrong, it was still tasty, but it falls short of great for me.

On tap at the Rogue brewpub in SF. Pours a hazy orange color with a decent amount of head. Wow, the aroma...you get blasted with the floral hops along with some pine notes. The taste similarly is just as great, with lots of pine hops up front and a nice malty finish, with lots of bitterness of course (just how I like it). The mouthfeel is medium with a moderate amount of carbonation, and some chewiness.
Overall, wow this beer is impressive on-tap. I've had it bottled a couple of times but it was even better on tap. One of my favorite DIPAs out there.

Served in a pint glass at Heaven on Seven
Appearance: golden/bronze color with a thin white head. Clean, filtered look.
Smell: it has that signature west coast IPA aroma.. hoppy, citric, and piney.
Taste: as one would expect, this beer tastes abundantly hopped. A variety of hops rush the palate, imparting their resiny, piney, and acidic fruit nuances. Not to be forgotten, there's a sweeping big malt backbone that adds a nice dimension to the beer while balancing out the hoppier character.
Moutheel: medium/full bodied with nice carbonation.
Overall: For the value, this DIPA is tough to beat. Another solid beer from Lagunitas.

Had this on tap at Lagunitas... comes in a mason jar with a dog on it. Appearance- Very nice golden amber color with nice frothy white head on top. Smell- HOPS HOPS AND MORE HOPS-- very piney, citrusy, and floral. Taste- At first it's a little overwhelming with the hops.. but as you drink it your palate gets used to it. I love IPA's and this is a very strong good example of one. Go out and try it kids!!!

On tap at 775 Gastropub
Color is a light, murky copper. Very alluring.
Smell is incredible. Hoppy with some citrus. It's very simple, but very pleasant.
Taste is a perfect balance. Hops are strong but balanced out with malt and plenty of citrusy delight. Very full-flavored. It's one of those beers I want to cherish with good, full sips that I swish around for a bit (and I smell it every time I take a sip too).
Overall this is one of the best beers I've ever had. I can't think of any reason to mark it down.

On tap at Belmont Station in Portland Oregon.
A: 1" soapy cream coloured head over amber liquid with excellent clarity.
S: Floral hops, pepper and yeast.
T: Malt, honey, citrus, pepper, and floral hops. Very nice taste, and while drinking I thought the perfect food combination for this beer would be a peppered gouda.
M: Medium level of fine carbonation.
O: A very nice Imperial IPA. What really stands out to me is the taste, and I plan on picking this up any chance I get.

Served on tap into a Lagunita's mason jar at the Lagunita's Tasting Room
A- Poured a clear amber orange color with a one finger creamy head
S- Piney hops, grape/rasin, and citrus
T- Very highly hopped and very strong grape taste, not grapefruit or orange citrus, but grape. Very sweet and bitter, pretty extreme tasting.
M- Pretty smooth with pretty high carbonation
Overall this beer reminds of an extreme Great Laker Burning River. I get this strange grape flavor from them which I don't care for in an IPA. Pretty disappointed with this beer considering I really like their Maximus DIPA.

A clear amber/orange beer, an off.white firm head that leaves good lacing and has curtains.
A lot of citric action is this, plus tropical fruits, mango, peaches etc. A multi fruit juice.
Starting surprisingly tart, the fruits are there, mango, lemon, and loads of grape-fruit peel.
Medium carbonation, small bubbles, soft and refresing, a good body with a long dry finsih.
A very, very distinct ADIPA.

Draft service into a pint mason jar at the tasting room/pub in Petaluma.
A: Clear, light amber color with less than one finger of white foam head. Moderate lacing remains on the glass.
S: Very boldly hoppy, with purified and resonant notes of pine foliage and grapefruit citrus. No alcohol is detected.
T: Begins sweet, with intense floral and piney hop aromatics. Grapefruit peel becomes more pronounced through the middle and finish, with bitterness that is at times intense and always appropriate. Dryness comes late in the flavor profile, while alcohol is never detected.
M: Thin to medium viscosity, surprisingly smooth on the palate, with moderate carbonation.
D: Finally--the elusive draft of Hop Stoopid... Sitting at the brewery pub, just down the road from Santa Rosa, it is hard not to evaluate this beer in the context of Sonoma County's most famous DIPA--Russian River's Pliny the Elder. While the freshness of a bottle may leave some doubts, when tasted on-draft and from the source this beer is impressive. The intensity of the hop aromas alone are irresistible. While I thought that kegged Hop Stoopid was a unique occurrence at the source, a stop at the Santa Rosa Whole Foods and their amazing 14-tap beer bar showed that it does travel. Hopefully, one day it will make it onto the menus in O.C.

Had this on tap at Haymarket in Chicago. Pour is a nice gold with a good couple fingers of head, good lacing. The citrus hops leap off the beer and follow through in the taste. A nice bitter finish with a crisp end that doesn't leave a resiny finish. Not super balanced with the malt but there is a bit of sweetness in the middle to hold things together. Perhaps a bit thinner than I would like but overall not bad and this is insanely drinkable. Great go to cheap beer for the style.

Tasted on draft at Kuma's Corner. Pours clear bright orange with a thick white head that sticks around for a long time. Nose features both bitter grapefruit and tropical fruit hops with a great caramal malt aroma as well. The flavors are sweet malt up front quickly moving to hops domination, but maintaining balance all the way through. The body is full with average carbonation and a long bitter hops and sweet malt finish.

Appearance -- Bright amber with a finger of creamy white head.
Smell -- Grapefruit, cannabis, basement, caramel malt. Overall, citrusy and dank.
Taste -- Grapefruit, pine, lots of green onion and garlic. Baseline of hop bitterness throughout - hop extract? Caramel malt backbone trying to keep things together.
Mouthfeel -- Medium-full in body with ample carbonation.
Drinkability -- How is this so highly rated? Malting is adequate, but the hop profile is really far off. LOTS of onion and garlic; I left half of the glass at the bar. Funny how I remember this being so much better the times I've had it in the bottle...

An exceptional beer at the toronado in san francisco. Delicious smell, easy on the taste buds, smooth drinking. Good stuff.
The beer is an exceptional feel when enjoyed from the tap in a pint glass. Prior to having this beer, I had Racer 5 and Sierra's Torpedo. I think I am set on hop stoopid for now.
I like a good IPA. I am not one to go for the pilsener. Except if I were in the czech republic.
Good stuff

I had this on tap at Lagunitas on 6/13/2010
A: Deep golden color, almost orange. Lots of carbonation with big foamy head that lingers.
S: Sticky, wet hops with tons of pine and ester. Good blend with citrus.
T: Very hoppy, but not overbearing by any means. Better balance than the Lagunitas IPA. At 8%, I didn't even pick up any of the alcohol. Citrus comes through perfectly blended with everything else.
M: Medium body with a lot of bubbles. Silky smooth, with a bunch of hop in the aftertaste.
D: Very, very drinkable for this strong of an Double IPA. Loved it.

I always make a point of picking up at least one of these bombers whenever I see them. Ever since I first tried it at the Brewery Fest in LA on the Sony lot (and subsequently didn't leave the Lagunitas sample tent until I started getting uncomfortable stares from the servers), I have loved this beer.
Pours a golden/orange tint amber with a pillowy head. Grapefruit, citrus, and floral hops greet your nose saying, "hi there, let's get to the drinking already." Crisp medium bodied refreshment, well balanced between the hops and malts, with just the right amount of alcohol. Effervescent but not overpowering, you can drink these all day...I did!

On tap and poured into a pint glass.
A: Glowing orange with golden honey hues. Micro bubble white head pours a half finger thick and stays throughout the sample. Nice sticky lacing crawls all over the glass.
S: Big tropical fruits. Soft pine or grassy smell. Caramel malt and fresh baked bread.
T: Intial taste is all tropical fruit. Pineapple and grapefriut come to mind with a touch of sweet mango to boot. The bitterness of this brew really flexes it's muscles right away. A soft pine or grassy flavor creep in and are followed by sweet caramel malts that lend some balance and a ghost like fresh bread taste. Hops still dominate the finish.
M: Slightly oily and slick. Minimal carbonation. Dry and slightly warm.
D: By far and away the best Lagunitas product that I have had to date. A Hop lover's delight for sure! Highly recommended.
