Pours orange glass with a foam that fades.

Smells like a bouquet of flowers with spruce. This is a hop bomb.

Hops knock your pallet like George St. Pierre. on the mat. Pleasant sweetness and bitter grapefruit balance the hop bitterness with grassy notes and a saccharine finish.
Very nice for a beer with IBU's this high.

Tangy and sweet syrup MF with a lingering tang.

Great IIPA and the availability and price make it approachable. Hop extract used at its best.

The Dorm Room Review

My burgeoning fascination with Lagunitas products inspired my purchase of Hop Stoopid, but the attractive bottle placed itself in my hand before I knew it. At 102 IBUs and 8% ABV, I'm A-OK to try this beer ASAP.
This review was written while listening to Death Grips' album, "The Money Store".

No date on the bottle (c'mon, Lagunitas).
Poured into an orange solo cup.

Appearance: Hop Stoopid pours amber, but in my solo cup, it's difficult to see for long, considering the extremely aggressive head erupting from the pour. The head is off-white and has character, complete with hills and valleys. Imagine a glacier dragged along the surface of the cup, leaving an eroded landscape of foam.

Smell: The spirit of Bruce Lee bicycle-kicked me right in the olfactory system. Super hoppy, astringent, tingly feelings. Hop Stoopid certainly has an amazing smell. The long dry-hopping process Lagunitas employs is extremely apparent.

Taste: After I waited for the gargantuan head to dissipate, I was able to sip the aromatic beer. Surprisingly smooth and drinkable; I'm concerned that Keystone will sue. Yet, Hop Stoopid has much more character than a 'Stone. Bitter astringency up front, in the middle, and in the back of the tongue, this is another classic DIPA. While I expected more fruit notes from a Lagunitas product, there's some grapefruit and tropical fruit tastes floating around in the beer. Strangely easy to drink for 102 IBUs; perhaps my taste buds have been fried from frequent Stone Ruination experimentation..

Mouthfeel: Just like the smell: tingly, fizzy, full of character and DIPA goodness. Fills the mouth with bursts of hoppiness. The carbonation is apparent, but it's pleasant. I wish more beer was this interesting.

Overall: I'm very glad I was able to try this beer. At it's core, Hop Stoopid is a multi-talented Double India Pale Ale that dazzles the nose and tongue. I am left wanting more in the realm of taste, since Hop Stoopid feels sort of one-dimensional. Yet, a one-dimension Lagunitas DIPA is better than most of the market's offerings, especially beers that don't have the same amazing smells and feels that Hop Stoopd unleashes upon the brain. If you can find it, buy it. The experience is worth far more than the cheap $3.99 price tag.

Lagunitas is by far my favorite brewery on the planet. The very first bomber of Hop Stupid converted me into a hop head and I've never looked back.When you crack one of these open you immediately are immersed in a cloud of citrus.
The taste is absolutely hop forward and upward, but is complex and not a palate wrecker like so many other IPA's. A gentle pour offers up a nice creamy head which laces nicely as you make your way to the bottom of the glass.
It is easy to drink, even at 8%, and I always look forward to enjoying a bomber, never once needing someone to twist my arm.
Lagunitas also is the best bang for the buck in the craft beer market IMHO. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

22 oz. bomber dated 091 = bottled April 1 or so. Pretty fresh.

A: Typical of Lagunitas IPAs in terms of color and clarity. Nice head and lacing as I drink more and more.

S: Hop overload, which is heaven for me. I have an addiction for hops, and this one fits the bill. More aggressively hopped than the Sucks.

T: Huge hop flavor, without being overly bitter. Pine, citrus, grapes, garlic. Massive amounts of hops crammed into this one. Not much of a malt backbone, but I think that's what Lagunitas was going for.

M: Mouthfeel is great on this one, especially for high IBUs. Good levels of carbonation, not too sticky. Sessionable.

O: If you can get this fresh, it's one of the best bomber values out there. Too bad they don't sell sixers of this.

Not sure how I haven't reviewed this beer...?

Lively burnt golden body with a healthy dose of eggshell white head that leaves some nice lace.

Sweet, fruity hop notes... both citric and tropical. Enough malt presence to provide balance. Not too terribly interesting to snort at.

The hop profile gains some points on the palate... the orange peel/mango mix is joined by a nice spruce flavor. The supporting malt addition is still evident.

It's good for a reasonably priced IIPA... can't say it's in my standard rotation anymore though.

A: wheat colored, golden. 1 cm frothy head

S: rich, grapefruit aroma, promising a hoppy taste

this mofo is awesome!! if you cant get pliny ,as most hop heads cant on the east coast,then this will be the closest thing you'll get to it! this beer is delicious. Grapefruit,peaches,lemons,hops,pine oil....the smell is crazy ,the taste is ever better...my fav DIPA because of it's availability and price!!!

Poured into tulip. Golden yellow with a thick fluffy white head that leaves tons of lacing. Smells floral, with more dank hops. Taste is nice and clean, with bitter hops finishing out, and a nice malt backbone. Nicely understated; it avoids that spikyness that some DIPAs get. Crisp, well-balanced, delicious, with a medium full mouthfeel, nicely carbonated.

A light amber in color with a thin tan head. Aromas of a pine forest. Taste begins with a big grapefruit start, then a solid sweet bread middle, and a piney finish. Mouthfeel is smooth. The carbonation was a bit lower than I would have liked, but nothing too bad. Overall quite a nice DIPA.

A - Lighter than some DIPAs, but still nice yellow/orange body.

S - Not as strong of a hop smell as you would expect, but still nice and aromatic

T - Great finish - Not overpowering up front and clean sweet aftertaste

M - Nice creamy texture - Enough malt to give it some depth - Good carbonation, but I think that it could be a little bubblier.

O - Another solid beer from Lah-Goo-Knee-Tuss

A: Pours a nice translucent light amber with about one finger of pure white head. The foam settles quickly, leaving a lace shroud across the top of the beer. There is a decent amount of lacing on the glass as it drinks.

S: The nose is sweet malt with a solid pine backbone and a touch of grapefruit bitters. It's a lot more malty than I was expecting, but without any bottle date I can not tell how old it is. It might be kinda old. This beer sits on the shelves for quite awhile here in Buffalo.

T: I get a quick burst of malty sweetness right up front, but the hops come on a second later. There is a quick pinecone punch to even out the malt, and then it is all yummy citrus. Oranges, lemon, and a touch of grapefruit. The balance is nice through the middle, but the sweetness returns in the finish.

M: Medium bodied beer. Sweet to start, great hop and malt balance in the middle, and a sweet finish. The beer coats the palate but it doesn't linger for too long. I get some nice residuial citrus after the beer is completely gone. Solid.

O: This is a very good beer, especially for the price. $4.59 for a bomber of delicious DIPA is all good in my book. There are a lot of other DIPA/IIPAs that prefer more than this beer, but in a pinch to grab something quality I would pick this up again.

Pours a clear straw-to-amber excellence. Smells hops, citrus, floral, little funk. Tastes like clear, clean malt and hop juice, almost chewy, funky hops, with a clean, clear, big malt backbone to buoy it.

Excellent, excellent double IPA. Petaluma is straight up the street from the legendary Russian River brew pub and brewery, and frankly, a little overlooked because of their wide distribution. I would put Hop Stoopid up against Pliny the Elder on just about any day and say it's an even match. Pliny is more grape-fruity, and Hop Stoopid has a little more funk. Both are clear, citrusy, hop-nectars of the Gods. I don't think I could take one over the other though, the only thing I really see hurting the Hop Stooped is that it is more widely available.

25.4 ounce bomber poured into 16-ounce glass.

A: Half a finger of white head tops light gold, semi-transparent beer. Lovely lacing.

S: Grapefruit explosion, tangerine, cut grass, pine and hops.

T: Starts with the coniferous tree taste, switches to the citrus, then back to the coniferous tree. Very bitter, hoppy finish. Hoppy all around.

M: medium-bodied, high acidity and bitterness. Medium carbonation. Packing heat - slick.

O: >100 IBUs - i'm a hophead who has built up a tolerance to this hoppiness, and this still is going to kill my tastebuds for the day. Just extremely hoppy and bitter.

bottle purchased from Total Beverages in Murfreesboro, TN.

appearance: amber orange with white 2 finger head

smell: intense west coast hops; very piney, slight citrus, earthy, grapferuit, even a hint of lemon

taste: Hops. Hops. Hops. West coast style, very earthy, resinous, piney, very bitter and dry aftertaste, but very smooth and enjoyable. Heavy notes of grapefruit over power the initial taste. The aftertaste sort of resembles applejuice.

mouthfeel: not very carbonated, very smooth

overall: As a hop head, this hits the spot. Personally, while very similar, I like this better than Ruination. And for half the price, this will now be a daily drinker for me. Thank you Lagunitas, never had a bad beer from them, and the prices are unbeatable. This is a very hoppy, west coast style DIPA beer that does not disappoint.

Poured from bottle into curved pint glass.

A - Dark golden, almost copper look to it. 1/4 inch head which has not gone away after 15 minutes. Average lacing.

S - Very floral smell, grassy, pine.

T- Extremely hoppy and bitter. Similar to smell, grassy taste, malty at the back end making it very smooth.

M - Little carbonation, very thick, coats the mouth, but not unpleasant at all.

Overall - This is my first time trying this beer, and it was much hoopier than expected. If it were slightly more carbonated, it would be much smoother beer. But for what it is, very good, especially at it's price point.

From a 650 ml bottle into a globe glass.

A-The brew is average looking with a golden color, a few stray bubbles, but no substantial carbonation. There is a short finger of off-white/light-khaki head. The head dissipates pretty quickly leaving a little bit of lacing.

S-I smell herbal (sage, mostly) and pine-forward hops. There is a touch of citrusy spice and white pepper. Fruity, pale malts are also present in greater quantity than many IIPAs.

T-The taste tracks the smell closely. Earthy, lightly dank hops with herbs, pine and a light orange citrus flavor are the dominant feature, but a decent dose of malt keeps things balance. Finish is drying and mildly bitter.

M-The feel is medium to full bodied for the style. Carbonation is ultra fine and prickly.

O-This is a middle-of-the-road IIPA. I give credit for keeping balance with the presence of the fruity, pale malts, but I could have used more complexity in the hop profile. I did not detect much in the way of tropical fruit or grapefruit, which I expect in a West Coast IPA like this one. For $5 a bomber, this is a decent deal, but there are better IIPAs out there.

Lagunitas Hop Stoopid Ale. 22oz bomber bottle. 102 International Bittering Units as described on the label. Poured into my new 1 liter German- Hofbräu brewery beer stein!

Appearance: Clear, bright orange with a pale white foamy head. Very little lacing with decent head retention.

Smell: Strong aromas of pine, citrus, grapefruit, fresh-cut grass.

Taste: Bitter, clean, slick hop-resin coats the mouth and tastes ohhhh so good! There are more flavors here but I am loathe to interpret and type them all out. But I will say it has a light, sweet malt backbone that keeps the hops from completely overwhelming the senses.

Mouthfeel: Medium-low carbonation. Like I said in the taste part, it is slick, and thick, and just coats your entire mouth in hoppy, bitter goodness.

Overall: This ain't your average Imperial IPA. It is certainly a thirst quencher and has enough hops for a "hophead". I'd like to see this beer at medium to medium-high carbonation to match the big 8% ABV and Imperial IPA profile, as I believe it's a tad under-carbonated.

This is a solid IPA from Lagunitas, a brewery that knows a lil sumpin sumpin about hops. The bottle reads 102 I.B.U. and I believe them. As it warmed a little, the sweet malt showed up, but overall this is a very hoppy ale that will make most bearded Americans happy.

Pours an absolutely beautiful vibrant, clear orange with at least an inch and a half of froth. Nose is delicately hopped and dry. Taste is very dry and lingeringly bitter. Taste orange rind and fresh pine. Pairs exceptionally well with the juicy, fatty burger I'm enjoying with dijon mustard and tomato basil sharp cheddar. Palatable, drinkable yet robust and very dry (which I love pairing food with).

Very happy with this brew!!

A: pours a nice orange that is a touch rustic. creates a rather foamy solid fingers worth of head formation with a very nice amount of lacing. the body is just transparent enough to see through

S: big citrus notes rush to the top on this one. earthy hops are also fairly strong with a nice touch of malt as the backbone to this brew. i also get a decent amount of apricot

T: big hops, nice citrus notes, fair amount of caramel to sweeten this one up and a bit of apricot and a slight hint of grapefruit here. fairly well balanced.

M: more on the lighter side of medium, and it leaves a nice big bitterness on the palate. but the bitterness is complemented by just a slight hint of malt.

O: for the $, this brew is terrific, and definitely well worth it. its big on hop bitterness (to be expected as its 102 IBUs), but its not over the top bitter and its well balanced by the malt and the citrus notes.

A: Brilliantly clear, copper- orange. Fizzy head that dissipates quickly but leaves nice lacing.

S: Piney and grapefruity, with some caramel. Always a good sign.

T: Delivers well on the aroma, sweetness of citrus fruit followed by bready malt and then a respectable-but-not-overwhelming dose of hops. Could be a little sweeter on the front end.

M: super-smooth, with caramelly richness and frothy carb. Nice.

O: an excellent DIPA. One of my go-to's, Especially considering that it's relatively cheap compared to a lot of its rivals: I have found this beer for just over four dollars for a bomber.

22oz bomber poured into wine glass.

appearance-pours a clear apricot, with a thick white foamy head. Nice lacing showing up around the glass. 4.25

Aroma-As expected citrus hops dominate the nose up front. Lots of orange and grapefruit. Apricot, pineapple, mango, pine, brown sugar. Not too complex. 3.75

Taste-Strong bitter citrus hops, tropical fruits are up front and in charge. Mango is killing it here. Then it turns woodsy, with pine coming on strong. Very satisfying taste for a double, strong and bitter, reminds me a lot of stones enjoy by. 4.5

Feel-medium to full bodied, ABV is noticeable even though its not too high. 22oz bomber will be tough to finish by myself. 4

Overall-year round doubles don't get too much better than this. This compares very well to stones enjoy by, though the price point is better. I wish I could get this in my area, but instead I have to drive about an hour north to pick this up. Next time ill stock up. Worth the $5.99 price tag for sure. 4.25

Just a really good all-around beer. Solid head, good lacing. Smells fantastic, fully of flowery smelling hops. Tastes just like it smells, which is a good thing. Mouthfeel is almost there, almost a bit watery after the sip. Loving Lagunitas beers so far, highly recommend this brew.

A - Light amber color with a large, light, fluffy, sticky, white head. Really good retention leaving behind a nice layer of lace.

S - Nice sweet tangerine citrus. Decent amount of caramel/toffee sweet malt. Pine and slightly herbal/floral nose. Nice fruity hop aroma keeps showing up. Background notes of bready malt.

T - Fairly strong malt presence. Sweet caramel mixes with a slightly sharp alcohol and bitterness. Faint sweet bready notes in the back. Sweet tangerine and grapefruit citrus. Strong pine resin and bitterness mid-sip to finish. Hints of herbal and floral hops in the back. Finishes with a fairly bitter resinous flavor.

M - Light to medium body. Above average carbonation. Fairly slick with a bitter, dry finish.

D - Pretty balanced DIPA with a good malt presence. Strong bitterness and hint of alcohol hurts how drinkable it is. At times I feel it works and then at times I'm not a huge fan.

Notes: Not sure when this was bottled (Would really like this info on the bottle) but it was a little strong on the malt. Alcohol and bitterness quite present. I did like the hopping flavors from what I got. Not bad, and at times I really liked it, but it just didn't work all the time. It had enough promisse that I'd love to try it again, but only if I was sure of its freshness.

12 oz bottle into a pint (048 dated, but I fear it might be a year old)

A: Some of the bigger bubbles I have seen rising up from the bottom of a nice golden blonde colored IPA.

S: Very strong pine smell with a hint of citrus notes.

T: Tastes like it smells. It is like a resin-y pine that I don't like too much. Resin-y aftertaste as well.

M: Decent crisp mouthfeel that mellows quickly

O: I might just have an old one, but I was not a big fan of this one. I will be sticking with Sucks. I'm gonna have to find one that I know is fresh or one straight from the brewery. Might have just found an IPA that I wasn't too big on.
