Light hazy yellow color. Large head. Smaller than the volcanic Unibroue 10. Aroma is yeasty and very fruity, with banana, pineapple, apricot and honey noticeable. A medium bodied Belgian ale. Malty and fruity with a lot of spiciness. The fruit flavors: banana, pineapple, lemon, oranges, apricots and bubble gum are balanced by spices like coriander, clove and rye. All these flavors are laid over a strong malt backbone. A nice triple. The 11% alcohol is evident in not only the taste, but in the nice warm feeling it leaves in your belly. Light and refreshing and surprisingly dry. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste is slightly bitter with a noticeable alcohol bite. Another winner from Unibroue.

Appearance: Slight chill haze on a slightly burnt orange color. Head is a small bright-white collar. No cap. Minimal carbonation in the pour.

Smell: Unibroue yeast. A slight funky tartness coming from underneath. Clove and banana. Vaguely peppery. Apricot, yeast, pear, and some crisp red apple. So much yeast. Some caramel and breast notes. Fruit and yeast. Did I mention it's yeasty.

Taste: Marmalade. Pear and apricot. Red apple skin. Big hit of Unibroue yeast. Clove, banana, some underlying bubblegum. Mealy fruit. Vaguely biscuity. Overcooked and caramelized malt sweetness. Building punch of yeasty clove. As it warms some crazy sweetness comes out. Sweet yeast and clove. Sugary. Almost candi sugar levels of sweetness.

Mouthfeel: Minor carbonation. Body is medium and smooth. Easy drinking. Probably the best part of the beer.

Overall: Wait, 10 years on a Unibroue beer makes it not awful? Barely.

I was 15 when this beer was released. It drinks decently, but that's about all I expect from Unibroue at this point.

Appearance: Hazy, medium amber with an off-white head - decent carbonation, even after all these years - leaves some lacing

Smell: Strangely, it's not bursting with Unibroue's signature yeast - some potent off-flavors, like solvent alcohol and acetone - but aside from that, some fruity esters like banana and apple - some spices - oxidized malts and cardboard

Taste: Well... I probably would have been better off if I drank this when I was 15 - solvent alcohol, cheap vodka, and acetone - maybe some paint fumes as well - oxidation and moldy cardboard - but there are some good flavors here, too - caramel, lightly toasted malts, bananas, and apple - some grassy and herbal malts

Mouthfeel: Medium body, lightly carbonated, sticky, feels old

Overall: Scored with a massive handicap due to the age

I would like to hope that I've aged better than this beer. Maybe it was good once, but it's probably 10 years past its prime. Interesting, at the least.

Thanks to ClockworkOrange for sharing this brew at a recent tasting. Unibroue 11 is circa 2002/2003 putting this beer at a few months shy of 9 years old at the time of opening.

Poured from a corked and caged bottle into a mini snifter, this brew appears a clear golden color with a white bubbly fizzy head that quickly recedes. Closer inspection reveals some tiny particulate floating through the body and additional pours into my glass get more and more hazed.

The aroma of this brew is apple meets pear skins. It smells of grass, light skinned fruits, a touch of sulfur and a slight indication that this might be peppery and "tart." The taste is sweet bready malt, a bit high in residual sweetness giving a flavoring that is somewhat like candy. The fruits mentioned in the aroma are present in flavor: pear and apple. The finish is dry ad spicy with a peppery note as expected from the nose.

This is a medium to full bodied brew with a light, enjoyable level of carbonation. It is easy drinking with a spiced dryness that encourages more frequent sipping. This brew did not at all seem like it was 11% or "over the hill" I believe this was a well kept bottle that could have been held on to for a few more years yet. Thanks again for sharing Jason!

From 03/25/11 notes. Shared with a few friends, poured into a tulip.

a - Pours a clear golden color with one inch of white head and very light carbonation evident.

s - Smells of Belgian yeast, spices, apples, and fruit malts.

t - Tastes of apples, faded fruity malts, Belgian yeast, light spice, light bread. A little sweet.

m - Medium body and no real carbonation in the mouth at all.

d - Overall a decent beer, but a little bit past its prime. I could tell by the low carbonation and the faded fruit taste that its past its prime, but still a solid beer. I would recommend drinking this one now if you still have one as I don't think it will get any better.

A: The pour is a murky golden straw color with essentially no head to speak of.

S: Not too pleasant to start off. Lots of cardboard with some alcohol. This is followed up with a sweet honey-like aroma as well as some floral and herbal notes and yeast.

T: Starts off really sweet like a mead along with some toffee and caramel to remind you this is a beer. There's still some cardboard oxidation and alcohol, but also a very strange herbal flavor.

M: The body is medium with a pretty low level of carbonation.

D: Like the 10th Anniversary, this one is pretty much dead.

750 ml bottle. Big thanks to my boy Jethro for pulling this one out.

Pours a slightly hazy golden amber, first glass is relatively clear, medium sized white head forms, slowly settles to a thin ring, few lace spots stick.

Smell is nice, lots of apple character, pears, honey and caramel, very fruity, apricots, white grapes, some spiciness, alcohol is almost nonexistent.

Taste is similar, sweet apple tart, coriander/cinnamon like spice, honey and caramel sweetness, pears and apple, quite sweet still, but has a nice fruity and toasty finish, alcohol has disappeared.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. Didn't get too much oxidation out of this, and was holding up very well. I think I still liked this one fresher, but definitely an aged treat. Thanks Ron!

Pours a hazy golden color with a one finger white head leaving a ring around the glass as it settles.

Aroma is very pleasant with honey, pale malt, spice, yeast, and mild sherry oxidative notes. Hey, it is over 6 years old.

Flavor is good and sweet with pale malt, lots of honey and spice, Belgian yeast, and a little light fruit, especially apple and pear. Sherry is definitely in there as well, but there's not too much of it.

Nice and sweet on the palate with medium body and mild carbonation that belies the age of this beer. 11% ABV is very well-hidden.

Drinkability is pretty high. This beer is very good overall.

750 ml bottle in a snifter glass.

A - Yellow orange like the 10 I just had. A little white head but not much.

S - Fruit and alcohol though the alcohol is present it is not overpowering.

T - Fruity and spicy. The alcohol leaves a nice warmth in the throat but is not overpowering like the smell.

M - Light bodied with good carbonation.

D - As with all of the others, great. This is a perfect example of why this is my favorite brewery.

Appearance - following a rather uneventful uncorking, it poured a pleasant clouded peach color with a bare covering of bubbles. They don't last long, leaving a weak ring behind.

Aroma - the nose has an inviting, melon-like fruitiness, soft yeast and alcohol to add some complexity and roundness as well.

Taste - yeast and candi-sugared grains dominate. A warm boozy flavor warms the belly and downright feels good.

Mouthfeel - slightly heavy, subdued carbonation. A prickly, peppery heat at the back of the throat following the swallow.

Drinkability - a fine sipper, but I think some of its finer complexities have aged out. Well preserved to be sure and tasty, but I probably shoulda popped this back in '05.

Poured into a Chimay chalice, the beer is a bright and mysterious golden yellow. It's a little hazy, but you can clearly see the bubble column rising from the glass's etched fleur-de-lis in the center. The fairly vigourous pour yields only the slightest head, which recedes to lacing very quickly. The nose is sweet and light. Aromas of candi sugar, pear, flowers, and alcholic spice arouse the senses. The taste is at first spicy and clean in the mouth, although the alcoholic character increases significantly as it warms. There is also a wheat twang, reminiscent of a hefe, but much less potent. It becomes cloying if sipped too quickly. There is only a slight bitterness. While the body feels medium-thin to me, it manages to feel syrupy as well. The carbonation, however, is nice, along with the massive warming sensation. Overall, the drinkability suffers from being too alcoholic and sweet, even after all these years.

750 mL corked and caged bottle dated January 9, 2003.

Very tough to open and no "pop" assistance from the beer. Light quarter inch of head served in to a chalice quickly diminishing towards the edges. Brilliant orange and amber body. A truly great color. Simple, yet impressive bottle.

Very fruity and alcohol laden on the nose. Strong citrus oils, esters, lemon zest and sweet yeast of the American pale wheat ale style. Rich with coriander and ginger. Notable alcohol presence tingling the nostrils.

Rich and malty with an exlposion of fruit and spice. Driven by a citrus zest with the strength and spice of a saison. Fine yeast flavors as the beer warms to about 55 degrees. Sweet brown sugar noticeable in the malty finish. There is a slight alcohol tingle that is very minimal and disguised for an 11.0 ABV brew. The malty finish is loaded with banana, clove and coriander towards the very end of the finish.

Mouthfeel is excellent with a noticeable alcohol "heat" and effervesence reamaining after 3.5 years of cellaring. The mix of so many flavors almost cleanses the palate after each sip.

Drinkability is wonderful. There are new flavors and experiences packed in each sip. You'll want to keep sipping!

An excellent brew by the genius that is Unibroue. The qualities of a strong Belgian ale, Belgian triple, hefeweiss and notable barleywine are all found in one beer. Certainly, cellaring has paid off in dividends. There are still a few to be found and buy if given the chance.

05/25/06- Purchased at Ledger’s Liquors in Berkeley, CA.

Presentation- 750ml bottle, both caged and corked. Beautiful etched glass as usual. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

Appearance- Golden, clouded and yeast infested. Full one inch of small bubbled foam rises to the top of my glass. Lacing is above average with a semi-ufo circle in the middle.

Smell- Really lacking of any strong scent. Has light scent of corriander, spices and sweet tropical fruits. Scent is there, but it really doesn’t assert itself as much as I would like.

Taste- I’ve had this brew before and it’s about as good as it can get. Tons of coriander, orange, lemon and some tropical flavors. Almost seems like a bit of papaya. Nice and sweet, but not cloying. Even tastes like a bit of hop bitterness afterwards.

Mouthfeel- Prickling and sharp carbonation. Slight sugary and fuller feel. Very crisp.

Drinkability- After a hard day of play in the sun, this beer more than hits the spot. It catches up on you quick though, When it’s hot you will find it hard not to chug it because it’s so refreshing. One of my all time favorite beers

Pours a lustrous gold, with a finger's width of creamy white head. Nose brings to mind white grapes, lemon, and orange. Taste is full of bubblegum flavors, lemon, syrup, and orange. I never got the feeling that this brew connected with me though. It tastes honestly good, but not engaging if that makes sense.
Mouth is very thick and pleasing. I could drink this easily though it would also be easy to be tempted by more complete offerings.

Appears a hazy orange gold with a tiny white head. Spotty lacing is left around the glass.
Smell is of mild cork, peachy mango, vanilla, Belgian yeast, spices with pepper & cardamom standing out.
Taste is of the same with some alcohol & cork mixed in the taste.
Mouthfeel is of sweet peach & yeast that is typical of most of the Unibroue brews.
