Unibroue has done it again! I can't help but laugh inside with the humor I find in enjoying this brew. About Seven years ago I was new to the craft seen. I was urged by a good friend to try this beer so, I did. I remember thinking, "Terrible, what a proper name for this beer." As the years have gone by and my palate has developed, I have come to have a deep appreciation for this beer.
The appearance is dark brown to almost black with a brown head. The crown appears as peanut-buttered whipped-cream from the tiny bubbles which form a thick, creamy head. The retention is outstanding with decent lace.
In the nose I detect molasses, dark ripe fruits, brown sugar, apricot and bourbon-like alcohol.
The only reason I didn't score this beer a 5 in taste is because it is too sweet for me. That is merely my personal preference so if you like sweet Belgians, you may score this one a 5 in that category.
Man, this beer is complex(as any good BSDA should be). Up front are the more quenching flavors, the fruits first then the brown sugar. Next comes the molasses and alcohol with the apricot in the finish. What an outstanding beer!
The feel I think is above good but not 4.5 quality, almost though. I am surprised at how the feel seems to be a little under-carbonated considering how the head built and built upon itself. But the feel is medium-bodied and luxurious. Beyond decent carbonation.
The drinkability is good considering the 10.5 ABV. I have almost killed this bottle, so it has to be damn good-considering.
I have said before that a BSDA is a hard beer to master. Unibroue seems to be doing the best job of putting out great, quality BSDAs time after time.

Pours very black with little of an off tan head. Dark fruits and very pungent cherries. This beer has a massive sweet cherry note. Almost like koolaid. A syrupy beer. Thick in flavor and texture. A lot of the Belgian yeast comes though ads a good bit of spiciness. A bit of caramel and bit of breddyness. A sweeter beer. High carbonation. Smooth in feel and not a lot of sting. Overall, pretty darn good stuff, a strong beer with dark cherry notes and other dark fruits.

Dark reddish brown, almost black, with a massive, frothy off white head that sticks around for a while, shrinking down to a nice creamy head with some spotty lacing.
Plenty dark fruit and yeasty aromas, with just a hint of roastiness. Smells like it'll be pretty sweet. Not super complex, pretty basic for the style, but nice.
Woah, even more sweet than I thought it was going to be, phew. Sweet dark fruits, banana, a touch of chocolate, just a hint of roast. Okay, after the initial smack of sweetness, it mellowed out a tad and is fairly well balanced. Slight bitterness and a little booze on the backend too.
Pretty heavy body with a lightish carbonation, but a nice bite.
Not my favorite of the style, but pretty damn good for sure. I'd definitely get it again, especially considering the always great price point of Unibroue brews which are always satisfying and well done.
