This one I slowly came around to. My tastes had to grow and change for Fin Du Monde to completely bowl me over. I was a diehard stout/scotch/porter fan for years until a handful of notable Belgians (Trappist Rochefort, Delirium, etc) made me a true believer. I came back to this exquisite beer with an open mind, a wisened palate, and a sudden realization that it's one of the best examples of its kind, despite being from Montreal, Canada. Ah, Montreal. An incredible city, but it's still not in Belgium. Anyway, here's the math half:

Appearance: gorgeous. I always smile at those lightly hued brews which obscure vision as well as any pitch-black stout. Yellow orange haze which nothing penetrates.

Smell is delicate fruity subtle and direct. It's good

Tastes even better than the nose and looks implied, with a perfect tingle via carbonation and a sweet fruity body (for the most part) masking the alcohol entirely.

Mouthfeel is near-perfect as well with semi-sharp carbonation offsetting the lack of bite from the taste - this thing tickles the physical mouth at proper aggression level while soothing taste buds in a stealthily satisfiying way.

Serving Type - 341ml bottle poured into tulip glass.

Appearance - Pours a cloudy, deep yellow-golden colour. Almost verging on orange. A good three fingers of fluffy white head float on top, and dissipate at a medium rate.

Smell - A truly astounding and complex aroma. I'm sure I'm in over my head here, but here it goes: Light orange peel, coriander, heavy spices (specifically what I can't say exactly) and a good dose of booze.

Taste - Alcohol up front, wich gets even more intense as the beer warms. This is followed by some hints of citrus, mostly bits of orange. A heavy spice flavour is present from start to finish. Other reviewers have pointed out a heavy yeast flavour which I wouldn't have picked up on otherwise, but which is definitely there, in a big way.

Mouthfeel - Heavy carbonation leaves for a crisp, bordering on sharp finish. Mouthfeel is dangerously light, almost fluffy. The beer seems to glide on the tongue.

Overall - 4.5/5

A - A hazy deep yellow with a white head that doesn't linger.

S - Smells slightly of bananas and spices. One of the best smelling tripels that I've had.

T - Spicy but not overpowering; the Unibroue yeast complements this beer nicely. Extremely balanced. I would not have guessed that this beer is 9% ABV.

M - You can definitely tell that this is a bottle-conditioned/refermented ale.

O - A fantastic tripel that's very easy to drink.
