La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

12oz. bottle served into a cervoise glass

Pours a typically yellow color, common to the style. 1.5 fingers of bright, white foam made a head composed of small bubbles. Head retention was not very good relative to other examples of the style. Lacing was adequate. All in all an average looking tripel.

Lots of nice fruit in the aroma of this beer. Pears are front and center but not to be discounted are green apple and dried orange. Belgian candi sugar is present, as it should be, to lend a sugary sweetness to the beer. Make no mistake - this does not smell like a dry tripel; this beer is all about the sweetness.

Taste follows the nose: pears, green apples, candi sugar. There is definitely a sweet, caramel, sugary biscuit sort of malt profile at work here. Some fresh flowers poke their way in by way of the hops. On one hand I've had more complex examples of the Tripel style. On the other hand I've had very few Tripels that exhibit the balance and craft of this offering from Unibroue. It is on the sweeter side of the style but there are just enough hops to balance the estery treasure trove.

I love the mouthfeel on this tripel. It is just about perfect for the style, I thinlk. In fact, I will rate it as perfect. It is exquisitely attenuated, especially given how sweet this beer is. The carbonation is certainly present at all times but it is never harsh to the tongue. The body is a nice, medium size that compliments all the residual sugars. The drinkability, then, is also very nice. You never taste alcohol even though the beer is 9% ABV. If you wanted to have two bottles I think you could so so with little difficulty.

This is a great Tripel. Though my score doesn't necessarily reflect it, I'd say that La Fin Du Monde is among my very favorite beers of the Tripel style. It is very tasty but light enough to make you drink more than you should. Definitely recommended.

Picked a can of this up from downtown grocery in Wausau, WI before heading home today. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful color of this can. The smell is really pleasant, but the taste really threw my off at first. To me, it initially tasted like green olives, but as I got used to it, it tasted more like a hefeweizen. Overall a really good, hard hitting beer that will sneak up on you.

Pours a bright orange - gold with lot of head and lacing, be ready with that glass! Tastes like funk (horse blanket), banana, clove, a little pepper, spicy, dry. Not quite as good as Westmalle but it’s a very good beer and the price is right, cheers!
