La Fin Du Monde
Unibroue
La Fin du Monde was developed through 18 months of research on a unique strain of yeast originating from Europe. It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

A: Hazy, aged pine wood yellow. Poured a full 3 fingers of soapy giant bubbles collasping down to a lacy rim of bubbles lasting even an hour post pour.
S: As always with Unibroue, the unique yeast is definitely the first scent. Afterward, you may smell pale dried fruits like dried apricots and peaches as well as spices of cloves and fennel. The smell is complex and layered fantastic to just smell nevermind to drink...and on to that...
T: Bready yeast typical of Unibroue is abundant, a butter pastry like flavour. A combination of malt and sweet fill the mouth followed by a complex spiced mix of cloves and fennel. A balanced combination of sweet, malty and spicy.
M: A medium body, smooth aftertaste on the tongue. The bubbles burst to the surface and tingle on the tongue, this is as close to a champagne as a brew can get.
D: La Fin du Monde is a crisp and dry offering from Unibroue that is reminiscent of a dry bubbly champagne and is easy to drink. I think of this as a champagne like beer, drink in moderation for optimal enjoyment. Try with spicy thai red curry soup. The malty sweet and sharpness of the carbonation balanced off the sweet and salty. Also paired with a more classic french dish of creamy potatoes, pan fred trout and asparagus. The full flavour and dry aftertaste compliment the fish and butter in the dish - great offering.

Picked a can of this up from downtown grocery in Wausau, WI before heading home today. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful color of this can. The smell is really pleasant, but the taste really threw my off at first. To me, it initially tasted like green olives, but as I got used to it, it tasted more like a hefeweizen. Overall a really good, hard hitting beer that will sneak up on you.

Pours a bright orange - gold with lot of head and lacing, be ready with that glass! Tastes like funk (horse blanket), banana, clove, a little pepper, spicy, dry. Not quite as good as Westmalle but it’s a very good beer and the price is right, cheers!
