The Blanche de Chambly label features the icon of the city where it is brewed: Fort Chambly. It was converted from a wooden barricade used for fighting against the Iroquois in the middle of the XVII century into a stone fortress to combat the British army at the beginning of the XVIII century.
With notes of dried orange peel and coriander seeds, this brew is a worthy representative of classic Belgian-style white wheat beers.

To date, it has won more than 34 international medals, including being named “The World’s Best White Beer" on numerous occasions. Unibroue is proud to brew the most popular white beer in Quebec.

Review taken from notes: June 2012.

750ml brown abbey style bomber. Corked Belgian style. Classy label with superb quality. Poured into a footed Flute like glass.

A - Lemon like golden with orange highlights in the shadows of the lighting. Lots of cloudy haze with a bubble effect. Snow white head sits atop and quickly resides to a fine ring of lace. Lots of sediment at the bottom of this. Hey, I freaking love The funk.

S - Fruity with fresh lemon, orange, and light grapefruit. Whiffs of sweetness and wheat along with a Belgian style yeast(Canadian Belgo in this case)

T - Very good yeast flavor with this taste. Soft banana, lemon and sweet orange fruitiness with a Unibroue marked wheat character. No real bitterness detected with a smooth, refreshing finish.

M - champagne like and refreshing on a hot day. Somewhat light while still remaining smooth and flavorful. Very drinkable especially on a hot humid evening.

O - I've had Blanche de Chambly often over the past 5 or so years and it deserved a review long ago. This was one of the first Unibroue beers I picked up and one I would recommend to anyone. It's a good representation of the Belgian witbier style and probably the best coming from North America. Canadian craft breweries are often overlooked, but without question Unibroue is one that are excellent at what they do. Blanche De Chambly is a very good beer in an often under done style considering its Belgian. This is a worthy ale in the warm months and fairly easy to require anywhere. It's worth the purchase for anyone who appreciates class beer.

Served from a can, the gentle pour produced a large white head. This recedes relatively quickly but retains a foamy head throughout. The liquid is a cloudy, dirty gold color. Various size spots are left on the glass as the beer is consumed.

Plenty of wheat and yeast aroma. Minor wet cardboard in the background. Despite the yeast bite smell, my first impressions are not Belgian.

Spritzy carbonation with a lighter than expected body. There is some banana and mild clove in the background. The wheat malt truly stands out throughout the taste and well after the swallow. There's an undercurrent of sour citrus in the background.

If you've ever had Blue Moon, this beer will feel ALMOST like that but just a bit better. Fuller taste and not as sweet, which is a good thing. Head retention is lackluster though.

Appearance:
Poured from 12 ounce bottle into Belgian glass. Nice fluffy 2 inch snow white head. Sheet lacing that remains. Kindof a dark sandy blonde color. Clear. Effervescent.

Aroma:
Enticing. Surprisingly aromatic. Slightly sweet, bready, yeasty, rich fruit aromas.

Taste:
Yummy. Some fruitiness, light pineapple then caramelized bananas. Orange peel on the back end.

Mouthfeel:
Light, clean, some maltiness.

Overall:
If I wanted a light beer, this would be a fantastic choice.

A - Pours out a bright, clear golden body, short white head, very tight bubble, some thin lacing.

S - Lovely apple notes, spun sugar and honeyed malts, with a bit of tea tannic sharpness.

T - Follows the nose, with a juicy apple fruit element gliding over a soft floral honey aspect. The wheat notes are quiet and suggest a pastry when coupled with the fruits. The finish is crisp, offering just a touch of acidity and bitterness.

M - Very bright carbonation, fairly light weight, and soft, dry close.

O - One of the better Witbiers I've had. Tasty, drinkable, and decidedly satisfying. I like it.

12oz Bottle, best by January 31st 2025

On the pour, it looks like a lot of the haze has settled out, but with a solid swirl of the bottle, this becomes incredibly hazy, with some larger particles of sediment. The body is an obviously hazy deep orange, and the head is fine, but not super long lasting.

The aroma is super yeasty but surprisingly malty. Not as much citrus as expected from a wit, but my sense of smell isn't fully here right now. Definitely has some Belgian yeast phenols and to a lesser extent esters.

Taste is lightly bitter, carrying over some subtle but present Belgian funk from the aroma, but it works well with the bready, but crisp malts. There is light citrus and the coriander is lightly present and again works very well with the malt and bottle conditioned characteristics. A bit lighter than expected from Unibroue, but again my sense of smell is weak.

Feel is incredibly smooth and drinkable, but with a velvety full malty quality as well. Super refreshing and dry as well. This is just a great feeling beer. The best of all worlds.

Overall this is a solid and uniquely Belgian (oxymoron right?) Take on a witbier. Solid yeast character backed up by subtle additions of Spice and orange, but a nice big and full wheaty malt. I would really like to revisit this soon.
