750 ml into a pint glass. Pours a thick, opaque golden with a lot of fluffy head. Smells sharp and spicy, no sweet. Tastes a little sweeter, though, a bite of alcohol, a tad harsh. Feels fairly thick, finishes lighter and sharper. I'd probably go for variety. It's good but not excellent.

750ml corked and caged bottle poured into tulip 17/5/13

A hazy bronzed amber with a large loose soapy three finger off white head that hangs around for quite some time but doesn't stick it just leaves a few random patches

S Unibroue yeast is always nice, clove and banana reminds me of a Hefe, some spice I can't place, over-ripe fruit, peach and plum perhaps and I swear I get a little peat, no idea where that's coming from but once I found it I couldn't shake it. Woody earth with some brown sugar and vanilla, smells very complex and I'm loving it

T talk about going WOW to meh, the nose just doesn't follow through in mouth, some rind and slightly sour notes I didn't find on the nose, grainy with a little booze, disappointed that the smells complexity's toned down but it still tastes decent but I'm surprised how different it is from the liquid gold I was smelling

M leaning towards full for the color, foams up just a little but not to airy, yeasty fruit lingers on the finish and just a little slick after the fact

O smells great but didn't quite match that level in the other areas, decent brew but I may have got too excited for a Unibroue brew that I haven't tried

solid brew but considering who brewed it I thought it would be a tad better, I'm still happy with my purchase considering the price point but I'd probably grab a different Unibroue next time around

A:
Pours honey-gold with some muddy tinge and an ample, airy head. Good retention and gloppy lacing.

S:
Smells kind of toasty overall, but is really heavy on their yeast, bananas, lemon zest and bread.

T:
Nice and smooth. Orange rind and vanilla ice cream. Subtle, but pretty sweet after a bit.

M:
Dry and hoppy up front, good carbonation. Gets sweeter and heavier on the malt/yeast as you go along.

O:
Nice. Not too in-your face. Definitely sweet, but there is a nice balance. It doesn't get to be too much. Refreshing and crisp. Not bad. Would definitely have it again.

I just had a bottle of a imperial Hefe that tasted too hot and one dimensional for a strong summer style. While this is not a wheat beer it does taste like an imperial hefe in the citrus notes and the light spicy notes on the finish. This is a well balanced beer that has a lighter touch than some of the bigger Unibroue beers and one I will drink more often.

750ml bottle. First I've seen of this particular offering in Alberta, and it was a pleasantly surprising find on the shelves of my hometown's bottleshop (wait, there's a bottleshop in my hometown?!).

This beer pours a hazy medium golden amber hue, with two fingers of puffy, thin, loosely foamy ecru head, which leaves a few blobs of sudsy lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of grainy pale malt, earthy yeast (yup, that Unibroue house stuff), under-ripe banana, softly spicy clove, green apple skin, and a bit of peppery alcohol. The taste is fruity semi-sweet pale malt, somewhat sour yeast, raw sliced apples, tame coriander, white pepper, and a soft grassy hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly frothy, the body medium-light in weight, and a bit too tacky to be considered all that smooth. It finishes on the sweet side, the drupe fruitiness ramping it up a notch over the flailing malt, as the yeast and hops keep a low profile.

An agreeable, if not overly complex big Belgian pale ale, the perceived strength kept well at bay. As usual for this brewer, a solid, somewhat accelerated intro to the style - glad I finally got a crack at it.

341ml Bottle from Marche Omni QC for $2

Appearance - Hazy amber colour with a large size fizzy/frothy white coloured head. There is a high amount of carbonation showing and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes.

Smell - Breads/grains, clove/yeast, bananas

Taste & Mouth - There is a high amount of carbonation and I can taste breads/grains mixed with some breads/grains, lemons, and faint hops. There is also some ripe banana and a bit of a maltiness. It ends with a fruity yet spicy aftertaste.

Overall - This brewer can do no wrong. While it tastes similar to the other Unibroue beers, it has some nice nuances to it. It has some great ripe fruit flavours and a touch of malt to balance out the yeast. It's kind of like a mix of a trois pistoles and a maudite. I'll buy some more while it's available.

Served from a 341ml bottle to a tulip

A: Dark honey color topped with rather bubbly yet dense white head with about two fingers of thickness. Retention is good as is lacing making for a very nice presentation.

S: Green apple skin and bready yeast so typical of Unibroue offerings.

T: Once again green apple skin with a very bready character. Pale pitted fruits are available as a some Belgian spice like character. Hoppiness is lower than i would have liked in a Belgian strong pale. Very reminiscent of other Unibroue beers with a more toned down vibe making it refreshing yet still slightly intriguing to the palate.

M: Crisp yet filling due to the high carbonation that is present in most other beers of this style. Very bubbly and fizzy.

O: Good beer but nothing outstanding in comparison to Unibroues other beers. I'm happy I've got more in my fridge but would take their other offerings over it any day.

Poured from a 750ml bottle. Pours a deep yellowing orange. This is some variation on a Belgian strong pale ale. The smell offers, smoke, funk, fruit and cloves. The taste also has a big spice component mixed in with the usual assortment of fruit notes. The finish is quite dry and bitter from quite an assertive (for Unibroue) hop presence.

On-tap at Bier Markt in Toronto. I take it this beer has been brought out of retirement. Surprised to find it on tap.

Light brown/reddish in colour, with a moderately-sized off-white head. Head fades quickly, leaving moderate lacing.

Bready biscuit scents are prominent in the nose, with some softer apple and apricot notes. A bit on the faint side.

Light fruit is the focus of the flavour. Apple. apricot. Classic Unibroue yeast flavour, bready. Grassy hop flavours as well.

Medium bodied, moderately to highly carbonated. A bit irritating. Bready.

Overall, very much a Unibroue beer. I like their signature flavour, and thus like this beer. Not the best in their lineup, but certainly good.

Best by 7/31/2009 on the bottle, drank on 1/12/2012.
Reviewed from notes.

A - Dark orange with some brown, cloudy appearance, very small amount of white head forms

S - a lot of fruit with a ripe to overripe character

T - Some of the fruitiness of the aroma translates to the taste, with a bit of flavor which i believe can be contributed to the yeast and a little bitterness

M - Medium mouthfeel with light carbonation

O - enjoyable, curious as to what it tasted like when it was fresh
