12 oz bottle, 7% abv. Deep mahogany, chocolate color. White head provides a nice contrast, but fades a bit too quickly.
Toffee, milk chocolate and a touch of roasted malt in the nose. A dark bread aroma from the malt. Love it so far.
A little more roasty up front. Chocolate feel is a bit more bittersweet and dark. A bit of toffee. Good amount of bitterness at the end, as it dries out.
Medium body, a much fuller feel than I anticipated. Maybe some slight warmth from the alcohol.
Overall, a nice beer. Nice complexity here. Worth a try.

Hmm, this "imperial brown ale", pours a very dark, almost black. Head is limited, and I get no lace whatsoever.
Nose comes across as boozy at first (it is a sturdy 7%, after all), followed by some dark chocolate and fruit notes. Nice.
Flavor is chocolate, with some roasted nuttiness in the finish, as well as a slight alcohol heat.
This heavy-bodied brown ale isn't bad, but left me unimpressed in the end. Not one I'd pursue again.

Trying out the local fare in Lafayette, once again. After having the wonderful Flying Duchess IPA, I was in a People’s mood once again. This time around: Mr. Brown, their brown ale.
Poured from a nitro-tap into a pint glass at Chumley’s in Lafayette, IN.
A: Say what you want about nitro-tapped beers, but they sure look great. This one has a slow, reverse-cascading head that build to a ridiculously creamy three fingers. The retention stays for as long as the beer sits in the glass, a tan inch of what literally looks milk (with just the slightest hint of tan color). Thick lacing covers everything over the deep mahogany body, which shines with a reddish light.
S: Smells a bit like chocolate milk, but with an even subtler aroma: chocolate-covered caramel and a pinch of lactose sugar. It’s probably the mildest nose I’ve ever experienced on a brown ale; just a touch of floral hops and toasted graininess, with minimal roast undertones. Slightly earthy.
T: Great mix of bitter and smooth sweet tastes, but the first hit is all hops: piney, spicy, and popping with light, resiny earthiness. A quick movement of the roasts causes a nice melding of the brighter bitters with dark chocolate, dry coffee, and bread crust astringencies of the body underneath. It keeps the palate in a constant state of sizeable bitterness, only to be extinguished by the caramel, chocolate soft-serve ice cream, and creamy malted milk sugariness. Good balance, but with a tangy Milk Dud aftertaste that leaves a little more to be desired; finishes creamy other than that hang-up.
M: Very rich, very creamy, so much that it can a little hard to drink at times. It has a milky taste and aroma, so the feel of lukewarm milk doesn’t help the appetite. I’d probably like it better from the bottle.
O: A pretty good brown ale from People’s; not stellar, but tasty and inoffensive. This is one of those brews that I’d give to someone who wasn’t familiar to craft beer, and I’m sure they’d like it.
