Pours a light golden color with a frothy white head, lots of action and no visual for sediment.
Some Pilsner hops aroma with a bready pale malt smell.
Pale malt grain taste, somewhat bready, with well balanced Pilsner hops that leaves a Herb aftertaste.
Light bodied, resinous, with lively soft carbonation.
Drinkability is incredible, everything is well balanced and their consistent.

Privatebrauer Sudwerk Pilsner: Davis, CA
-ABV not on bottle (always bugs me), but it was a sample bottle, so you never know.
-Poured into a Sam Adams Beer glass
-Appearance: Fairly clear, wheat/straw colored, lots of carbonation visible. Thin head, expected more foam with the amount of carbonation seen.
-Smell: Doesn't smell as malty as I had expected. Actually, it smells more like a corn based beer product. Tried desperately to smell -anything- (and I have an excellent sense of smell, I taste for a living!) Just not much there.
-Taste: Light, crisp, hint of florality, which was sadly missing in the smell. Much better than the smell would have let on. Good carbonation, a little sweet on the finish. I actually very much enjoyed this beer, I just wish the smell had matched the body.

Enjoyed on tap at the brewery.
A: Pours a clear light golden yellow color. Small bubble streams rise to the top, giving it a lively appearance. A creamy, one finger, white head sticks around for quite some time.
S: The first scent that I pick up on is a corn and grainy aroma. Not very inviting. Luckily, some grassy, floral and barley aromas come through, but aren't enough to come through significantly against the overpowering corn smell.
T: Strong floral tastes come through initially. Grains and barley follow and it leaves a slight grassy aftertaste.
M: It has a medium body on the lighter side. A moderate amount of carbonation fits well. And it has a sort of oily feel.
O: Not a bad pilsener offering. The smell is a little off putting, but the other aspects are solid. An above average pilsener.

Bottled on 1/1/12.
Pours a slightly hazy light gold with a 1/2 inch foamy off-white head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Tiny streaks of lace form sparsely around the glass. Smell is of grain/bread and some fruity and grassy aromas. Taste is of grainy malt with slight fruitiness and some herbal hop flavors. There is a mild bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a crisp level of carbonation with a prickly mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good pilsner that is easy drinking and quite tasty.

Poured from a 12oz brown bottle into a stemmed small clear glass goblet. Best by 12 12 11 stamped on label. Single purchased at Zain's Liquors for $2.25.
A: Clear golden with fine carbonation and short 1/2-finger white tightly bubbled head with solid retention and lacing.
S: Sulfuric and minerally with a crackery grain character and grassy, herbal noble hopping. Right on target for style.
T: This is an excellent version of a sharp German pilsener with a crackery, dry pale malt base with clean, crisp, and moderately bitter noble hops with a mineral, sulfuric finish.
M: Crisp and moderately dry with light-medium body and medium carbonation to keep it clean.
O: I think the sum is greater than its parts -- this is an exceptional pilsener with just the right balance of sharp bitter hopping with crackery maltiness to hit the German version of the style on the bulls eye. Nice job Sudwerk. I would love to get a fresher version the next time around.

poured into SA patented Boson Lager glass...
A: great clarity through a yellow golden brew with a 2 finger white head. retention is okay, leaving a thin sheet of bubbles. also leaves good lacing.
S: smelled the herbal and earthy noble hops as soon as i popped the cap. this beer is spicy, buttery, and doughy, which i think sums up what a true czech pils should smell like. Damn close to my favorite czech pils, Pilsner Urquell.
T: grainy, breadsy malt upfront, however not as doughy or buttery as the aroma. Hops take the mainstage here, again spicy and herbal with more of a lemon peel twang. long and bitter hoppy finish.
M: soft, medium body pils with a fizzy carbonation, finishing off dry and slightly sticky
Overall, this is a pils that attempts to capture that authentic czech flavor and does so very well. It's hoppy character is not to the point of overload, but remains enticing enough to satisfy even the biggest hopheads. This beer is reasonably priced and reasonably drinkable. Would buy again. Cheers
