Had this one at the source on a past ticking trip to Asheville! Served from nitro-tap into a sampler shaker. Poured a massively dark brown (almost black) with a one finger light tan head that subsided to a minimal amount very slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of roasted malt, coffee, dark fruit, dark chocolate, and earth. The flavor was of sweet malt, coffee, dark fruit, roasted malt, earth, and subtle tartness. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. I really did not know what to make of this one once I picked up on that subtle tart flavor. Not sure if it was the way my palate was reacting to the coffee flavor present or what, but it was slightly off-putting to say the least. However, this did not ruin the beer at all as there were still quite a few nice aspects going on here that were not typical for the style. Really glad I got the chance to try this one while there and suggest you do as well given the opportunity.

dark brown, nearly opague with a nice tight tan head, very quick fade to a nice film with a good bit of lace.
nice robust caramel smell mixed with aromas of coffee and hints of roasted nuts and a touch of chocolate. Overall not bad.
First impression was really just light carbonation, great frothy and fluffy mouthfeel and just all around benefit to the palate. Lots of caramel flavors and again a bit of a smoked hint at the back. Small flavors of roasted nuits, chocolate and hints at black coffee. Very nice, but the mouthfeel was a touch thin for me, and faded in and out. Light, balanced, a drinkers stout.

Almost pitch black pour, light tan head that retains well.
Aroma, roast, dark chocolate and very light coffee. Muted a bit as I find most nitro pours.
Taste identical but more pronounced. Nice roast components work with the chocolates and light caramel. Just faint coffee.
To the heavier side of mid bodied. Creamy carbonation of course. Drinks real easy for 7%

Arrives a waterfalling head of tan over a rich, dark brown liquid. Tight little bubbles with great retention settles to a 1/2" creamy head.
Smell is roasted malt, coffee and wet cardboard.
Taste is roasted/toasted malt with coffee and molasses.
Fairly full bodied with a somewhat dry finish. Light effervescence. Smooth throughout with a hint of warming and a slow fading aftertaste. Very good.
