First had: on tap at Prism

This was definitely the best beer Prism had to offer when I visited the tasting room. Dark brown-black pour with a thin tan head that quickly sank to a tiny ringlet. Nice rich aroma of hazelnut coffee, dark roasty malts typical of a porter. The taste reflected the aroma, hazelnut coffee, roasty malts, a hint of vanilla sweetness. Not a complex beer, but it's good for a quick fix of tasty hazelnuttiness. Body was about medium, appropriate for the style. I'd revisit this if I saw it on tap again.

This poured out as a very dark brown colored beer with a very minimal head on top. There wasn't any retention or lacing on this beer at all. The smell of the beer kicks ass, it's loaded hazelnut aromas. There isn't much else coming off on the nose from this beer but it's very good smelling regardless. The taste of the beer gives off a lot of hazelnut also but there really isn't much depth, it's kind of one dimensional. The mouthfeel is a little on the thin/watery side which is a little disappointing, there is a moderate carbonation but not enough body to this beer. Overall I love the smell of the beer, the taste isn't bad but it lacks complexity across the board. It's a good start to work off of, in time with some minimal alterations this beer could compete with something like the Frangelic Mountain Brown.
