Described as an oak-aged rye ale on the menu.

A: Slightly hazy, light amber color with less than one finger of diminishing off-white foam head. No lacing remains on the glass.

S: Toasted grain stands out--but also stands practically alone. A weak thread of honey is able to peek through as the beer warms.

T: Begins dry, with toasted pale malt that well the dominant quality of the smell. Acidity is mild into the middle where the rye influence is subtle but spicy. The sole evidence of hops comes during the clean malty finish in the form of mild and clean bitterness.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, wet and balanced on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: This malt-focused pale ale wants to be everything it promises, with well-integrated but defining rye standing out against a paucity of other qualities. The presence of oak is questionable, however, perhaps so limited in its application as to tweak the texture but leave the other more obvious qualities unaffected. It runs no risk of offending the hops-sensitive portion of the beer-drinking population.
