yesyouam ( Fairport, New York )C- / 2.55look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 2 | feel: 3 | drink: 2.5 rDev: -18.8%Kamenitza is a clear, sparkling, pale golden lager with a thin, soft, white head that has excellent retention and lacing. It has a sweet, malty aroma with notes of black pepper and DMS. It's medium light bodied; very soft and smooth with a dry, papery finish. There's not too much flavor. It's not sweet like the aroma, but it's a little fruity with notes of lemon and corn. It's a tolerable beer-- only slightly offensive, but smooth with not much of an aftertaste. Let's see how it goes. The beer came in a 500ml bottle, labeled as 1pt 0.9oz. I poured it into a pilsner glass. There i slittle whitehead atop a pale yellow , clear beer. Nothing really exciting and no lacing to mention. Nose is slightly floral hops with notes of sweet grain. Not bad really. Tastes are light and the carbonation creates nice tartness. A bit of the hops come through as does the grain but there is not much to say. Mouthfeel is light and carbonation is medium. Aftertaste is minimal and finish is slightly dry. Drinkability is good but a bit more flavor would improve it. I don't think this warrants a change from my current session choices but it is a decent diversion. Slainte. JBogan ( Las Vegas, Nevada )C+ / 3.25look: 3 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 4 | drink: 3.5 rDev: +6.8%Pours a light gold with a small white head which leaves moderate lacing. Smells of grains and honey along with what seemed to be a bit of frutiness. Tasted rather simple. Some sweet malt and grains with no sign of alcohol. Nothing offensive at all, however nothing to get excited about either. Mouthfeel was good. Medium bodied with a good carbonation tingle and crispness. Smooth and refreshing. Overall this is a fairly good euro lager. It's quite a bit more enjoyable and flavorful than and American macro lager. I'd have it again. The beer is a typical pale straw color. Soapy head is pure white and one and a half fingers thick, and sticks around for about a minute. Smell: Grainy, faint hop fruitiness. Soapy and/or metallic. Touch of honey? Taste: Light hoppiness with a crackery malt. Finishes with a somewhat sweet and leafy character in the back of the mouth. Mouthfeel: Crisp. Goes down smooth. Notes: Another typical Bulgarian lager. Nothing special to see here. Still better than Zagorka though. There are cheaper BG beers that taste better. Their tumno is tops, but this one is mediocre. A- Straw pale gold, 2 finger rocky head that dissapates to a thin crown very quickly. No lacing. Very lively carbonation. S- Very faint hop bitterness T- Lots of dry hoppiness in the beginning, but very quickly turns into a soda water blandness. Any hop content noted was gone too quickly to really take notice. M- Highly carbonated and unpleasant on the tongue and in stomach. D- Little drinkability here, no flavours make me feel like im drinking a mildly hopped carbonated water and the high carbonation makes it thoroughly unpleasant. PASS! This is a 4.4% brwon bottle containing 50cl, best before 17th April 2008, drank on a sunny but cold Saturday in Feb 2008. The beer was poured into my small Veltins Pilsner glass two and a half times. Golden and crystal clear body, plenty of carbonisation and a full blooming white head. The true colour is mid lager yellow. As with every lager/pilsner there isn't much aroma to find and pontificate about, so it gets my normal 3 score. It has a dry, slightly malty taste and has more body than a lot of European lagers seem to have. There is a sharpness to it too. The dryness leaves a little metalic feel in the mouth, otherwise this is not a bad effort. I have had two holidays in Bulgaria, one on the coast and one sking, I don't remember seeing this, but I'll look for it if I go again when I fancy a lager or have a deep thirst. This was an unsatisfying beer.
Looks great. Bright golden yellow. Has a creamy huge white head that dissipates rather quickly leaving behind however heavy lacing. Little carbonation in fact, almost flat.
Smell is unspectacular. Light hops and malt. Mild grassy notes.
Its taste is where it fails most. Sweet and almost no bitterness. Little hop to speak of. Slight malt. Pronounced sour tanginess.
I am a belgian fan and had high hopes for this one, but in the end it was disappointing. Nothing very interesting. Tastes a lot like American macro brews with a sour note. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-16-2007 10:04:34 | id: 451455
 ChiSox05 ( Chicago, Illinois )C+ / 3.2look: 3.5 | smell: 3 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | drink: 4 rDev: +5.3%Shades from pale yellow to yellow /w hints of orange, good head retention, some lacing, sparse carbonation.
Some hay and grassy scents, some metallic smells. Subtle hops under the light malt, malt more noticeable after it warmed up some.
More citrus in the taste than noticed from the smell, lemony, not sour though. Grassy and metallic smells translate to the taste but the malt shows up too late and in the back of the palate.
Revision: After a couple more Kamenitzas over several days, I think I flat out missed its malt profile. What I found there was a minimally sweet lightly roasted maltiness that improved taste overall, moving from 2.5 to 3.0.
Plentiful, smooth carbonation. Medium greenish wetness weighs medium early on followed by a lingering light malt at the finish.
Overall, I'd like the malt to come through earlier and give some balance to the taste, but with the ABV and its other qualities, its easy to have a few at a time. Taste not outstanding, still quite drinkable. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-27-2006 03:57:36 | id: 443076

The label says "Lager beer” under the Kamenitza.
A- This beer has a pale straw crystal clear body with a thin white film of head and a very strong carbonation.
S- This beer has a very clean smell with a pale dry malt nose and a finish of faint green hops.
T- This beer has a dry pale malt hint that fades out as it warms. There is a bitter hop finish that is dry with a carbonic acid bite that gives the hops a faint bit of depth. As this beer warms notes of dry corn and raw grain start to come through over the malt but the hops are still stronger that any malt/grain flavor.
M- This beer has a very light crisp mouthfeel with a fizz texture in the finish.
D- This beer is light thin and note very interesting. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 08-20-2006 02:33:57 | id: 390861
Chaz ( The Cities, Minnesota )B- / 3.45look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 4 | feel: 3 | drink: 3.5 rDev: +12.2%Pours a medium golden-straw in color with a tight uniform head. This is the freshest bottle of this I’ve had and it really shines as such: clear but
coarsely-filtered, and with fine carbonation. Nose is very mild, with a toasted-malt accent and a barely discernable hop profile. Smooth mouthfeel and seemingly more full-bodied than it is, the palate is
dominated by pale malts but has a slightly tangy bittersweet quality, although it is not truly bitter in the manner of the classic continental Pils style. Very drinkable when fresh, loses its finer points as it ages (it used to be a cheap staple for Eastern European beers in these here parts, and also frequently a drain-pour for lack of attention to codes.). Malt qualities are on-par with the better Czech and Polish pale lagers which leads me to believe that there’s a common point of origin to the grains used. . . . definitely worth trying a fresh bottle (the 330 single I bought at Discount in Milwaukee only set me back $.99!) Best Before date is clearly marked as March 05, ‘06, I drank it over a month later and it held up just fine. Now bring on the Astika Lux!!!
