Had this on cask at the 2010 Firkin Festival.
Barleywine with East Kent Goldings.
This poured a semi-cloudy orange red.
It smelled light with caramel, toffee, burnt malt, eartthy, black tea and sweet honey flavors.
It tasted of toffee mixed with tropical fruits and a ton of Black tea. It tasted like an unsweetened Tropical Black tea, the kind you would get at Grandma's or at a Tea House. BUT that doesn't make it a bad thing.
Good mouthfeel, good drinkabilty.
It was interesting. I have never had a barleywine like it. I would have liked to have tried this one on its own and not the ending of a cask beer festival.

Kind of chalky on this one. But there is a nice thick sweet tone here, though an after lying bitterness really does seem to kick in on the backside that switches things up. A nice drinker. Definitely a sipper and could use a bit rounding on some of the rougher edges on it, but it works fairly well.
Serving type: on-tap
