The beer was ruby red with hardly any head at all, but what was present was pink.

The aroma was tart with a soured bing cherry presence and a low lightly bready character. The aroma exhibited a definite acidity.

My first thought about flavor was, WOW, the taste is that of a sour cherry pie, almost an unsweetened cherry pie. The beer was tart but not overdone with an acetic sour character and a very light bready nature.

The finish was dry with lasting strong tart cherry into the aftertaste. Teh body was medium wtih a low carbonation. Served a bit too cool, but a very nice kriek.

Draft at Bruxellensis (9/9/06). 5% ABV.

750ml caged and corked bottle, Jan 2009, 6.5% abv, says Exclusief Kriek-Lambiek on the label...also says, on the back 37.5cl. Wrong! ;^)

A- Pours a cloudy black cherry colour, no head of foam, really, and no lacing. There was barely a hiss when I removed the cork.

S- Big sour cherry aromas with lots of funk...horse blanket...sourness has some notes of vinegar.

T- Again, sour cherries and funk, some light vinegar, not overly sour and frankly, not that pleasing to my palate. Maybe it's the lack of any carbonation?

M- Flat and think bodied.

O- Drinks more like a red wine, what with no carbo. The first De Cam brew that did not having me smiling big time.

Bottle from Etre Gourmet, 750ml into a tulip. 2009 vintage.

Deep purple body, with a pinkish-purple head. Ring of retention. Nose has some insane barnyard character, horse shit/manure, herbs, flatulence and not too much fruit. What in the fuck am I smelling? Palate has crazy funk character, apple, horse stable/horse shit, plastic and distant but detectable cherry notes. Light medium body, medium low carbonation. Unlike anything I've ever consumed before.

Aroma is funky, berry, plastic, horse blanket. A good looking reddish purple, with a small retained head and lace. Sour yet cushioned finish. A bit palate erasing. Very drinkable. Fruity sour in the sediment. Masterful combination.A unique beer, thanks Liam.

Big thanks to belgbeergeek for bringing this over and making it part of the De Cam tasting at our party. Cheers man! We drunk this one right after the regular lambic.

From a 750ml corked and caged bottle into a tasting glass.
Vintage: 2009
Note: Label says Kriek-Lambiek and is noted at 6.5%

APPEARANCE: Pours out relatively flat, yielding a slight wisp and ring only. A hazy poppy red in color with no carbonation evident. Only a ring remains until the end leaving no lacing down the glass. A little lack-luster, but nothing wrong per se.

SMELL: Musty and funky notes, with some cherry definitely there. Not quite as bold as hoped, but a decent balance between musty lambic, tart cherries and floral aromas. A touch of white wine competes with the tart cherries as well.

TASTE: Some sour lemon, tart cherries and wine flavors, as well as some musty and funky flavors in the mix. Touches of floral hops at the swallow as well. Mild finish of musty funk, tart lemon and cherry flavors and some light sourness. Mild in flavor all around, and definitely not as impressive as hoped. A little weak.

PALATE: Medium body and lower levels of carbonation. Slightly watery on the palate, smooth going down, however, and finishes slightly dry. Not overly puckering.

OVERALL: This one just missed the mark for me. The lambic is fine, as we had just seen, but the cherries didn't quite lend the flavor that we'd all hoped for. Mild all around and slightly watery, unfortunately. Not quite there for me.

The beer is a deep, dark, ruby red with a soft pinkish purple head. The aroma and flavor both showcase the cherry. Mildly acetic and highly drinkable. This beer is quite noticeably different in both aroma and flavor from the 3 Fonteinen and Cantillon krieks I was enjoying earlier in my trip. The body is medium to thick and coats the palate more so than is customary for the style. A blend of sweet and tart cherries, with a bit of a syrupy character. Overall, this is solid. I would definitely have this again.

I've had better Krieks, these krieks from De Cam are good but they sort of border that cough syrup flavor at times, maybe if they were either sweeter or more sour it would work out better. I doubt I'll go out of my way to have it again.

Beer is ruby red, dark, with a pink head, lazy head breaks quickly, moderate carbonation, some lacing, low retention.

Aroma is funky, tart, sour, lactic, cherries, sweet.

Beer is medium to light in body, tart on the finish but syrupy and sweet with lots of cherries up front, nice Brett character and lactic breaking through in themidaplate. Like I said though, Probably not a repeat for me.

750ml shared with sideshowe and kubrick215. Thanks a lot to my wife Michelle for surprising me with this on Xmas morning!

Pours a  deep, dark blood red color with a two finger dark purplish-pink head that slowly settles into a lasting ring.  Spotty lacing left behind.

Musty, funky aroma that's bursting forward with sweet berries and barnyard funk.  Slightly lactic with lots of earthy oak and a strong horse blanket character.  Although there is a lot of earthy funk, the nose is still dominated by a very strong cherry/dark fruit character.  It's really surprising how fruit forward this beer is.  Smells great!

Medium bodied but filler than expected with a perfect balance of lactic funk, acetic acid and sweet fruit.  Surprisingly smooth and easy to put down considering how tart and funky it is.  Not harsh, overly acidic or acetic at all with only a subtle lingering vinegar flavor in the finish that leaves me salivating for more.  No solvent whatsoever.  Its just bursting with uber fresh cherry sweetness.  I can even pick up the skin and pit which compliment the earthier/mustier qualities.  Delicious and excellently balanced, never becoming to sweet or funky/sour.  Another great lambic from De Cam.

240th Review
Served in a wine glass
Vintage: 2009 January

A: Dull ruby red. No head on vigorous pour.

S: Smells of cherry, faint raspberry and barnyard funk. Touch of oak barrel and must.

T: Tart cherry, barnyard funk, and dry must. Soft dried fruit with oakiness and decently sour (not puckering though). Tannin character towards the finish makes this more vinous that lambic, but that can be a fine line at times.

M: Medium bodied with zero carbonation. Drinks like wild cherry Capri Sun.

O: A decent beer with nice funk/fruit balance, but the lack of carbonation is a large distraction for me. Reminds me a lot of wine and I'm curious to see how/if this develops.

The beer pours a reddish color with a white head. The aroma has a ton of tart cherries, as well as a little bit of funk. The flavor is similar, with a little more complexity. I get a good dose of tart and sweet, juicy cherries. There is also some light funk, which goes well with the sour aspects of the flavor. Thin mouthfeel and low carbonation. A very nice fruit lambic. Glad I got to try it.

Pour is a dark cloudy blood red with a small light pink head. Nose has a very dusty funk up front, light oak notes create an attic quality. Light notes of sour cherry in back. Taste is very good, fantastic balance, dusty funk and notes of oak up front as cherries hold stronger in the flavor. Very sour but in no way acetic, light lactic qualities towards the back with a long dry finish on a light body and lively carbonation. great beer!

Bottled Jan 2009, labeled as 5.0% ABV.

A beautiful deep black cherry red with a pink head that falls off, leaving a little ring and minimal lacing. The nose is great. Big sour cherry aroma, fruity, leathery, pithy, even a touch medicinal, this has a *really* nice fruit character. The base lambic appears to be more lemony and less lactic (compared to the Oude Gueuze, Oude Lambiek and Oude Faro). A little mineral character too (calcium?). Excellent.

The palate opens with quite a big fruity sourness with a moderate lactic acidity as well. The cherries themselves don't contribute as much sourness as I was expecting. They do, however, lend a sour cherry pie flavor - cooked cherries, cherry skin tannins, some pit. Following this cherry character, there's a pronounced lactic sourness (at least, when compared to the Drie Fonteinen and Cantillon Lou Pepe Krieks, which are more lemony). Drying, tannic, lactic on the finish with a blend of clean acidity, a little bit of lemon, a moderate sour cherry flavor, this beer is pretty great. Carbonation is mild, and this beer is medium-light in body with most of the heft coming from the tannins and cherry flavor. An excellent kriek.
