10% ABV confirmed. "Double Imperial Stout 2012 Anniversary." Served on-draught at Eagle Rock into a snifter. Reviewed from notes taken January 2013.
A: Pours a half finger tan colour head of nice cream, thick, but of horrid retention (~30 seconds). Body colour is a solid nontransparent opaque black. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.
Sm: Chocolate, milk, cream, dark malts. Simple and bland. An average strength aroma.
T: Chocolate, dark malts, cream, milky notes, and chocolate malt. I do like it, but it lacks complexity and subtlety - key elements for truly great beers in this style. What ti does have is balance. No yeast or alcohol comes through, a fairly impressive feat at 10%. An enjoyable imperial stout, but it doesn't bring much to the table.
Mf: Smooth and wet. Good thickness and carbonation. Decent palate presence. Suits the flavour profile generally. Not great for the style.
Dr: Drinkable and enjoyable, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Hides its ABV well. A $6 for a small pour, it's rather overpriced. I'd get it again if a bar had this as the only decent option. A pretty good offering from Eagle Rock, but one that will probably get lost amidst the sea of better cheaper beers in the style.

A - Pours a dark brown with a bit of ruby around the edges and a finger of frothy chocolate colored head. The head fades down fairly slowly leaving behind some lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of roasted dark chocolate malts with some coffee, prune and other dark fruits, English yeast, vanilla, and a bit of booze.
T - Starts off with some roasted milk chocolate malts with some raisin, prune, and other dark fruits and a bit of coffee. Through the middle, some strong coffee and roasted dark chocolate comes through with some vanilla and some English yeast notes. The finish is a mix of roasted chocolate malts, dark fruits, fruity English yeast, and a bit of booze.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a sweet and warming finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nicely balanced with the chocolate and dark fruit flavors working well together.

Bottle at Reserve Society Party 2012
A nearly black pour with a big khaki head. An interesting aroma. Has a hint of banana to go with lots of roast, dark fruits, and cola. There’s a hint of burnt sugar. Plenty of sugar along with a fair amount of roast and perhaps a touch of smoke. A little bit of banana and raisin, maybe some hints of chocolate and vanilla as well. Not bad.

On tap at Eagle Rock Brewery in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that fades to an oily film on top of the beer. Small chunks of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and vanilla. Taste is of dark roasted malt, chocolate chip cookie dough, and vanilla. There is a nice roasty bitterness that lingers on the palate after each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with a smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer and definitely my favorite Eagle Rock brew I have tried so far.
