Served this Imperial IPA at the brewery in a pint glass. Poured a hazy copper color, produced a thick off white head with excellent retention and nice left nice lacing on the glass. The aroma consisted of malted grain, and earthy piney hops. Medium in body this beer has a nice base of malted grain, caramel malt, lemon citrus and piney hop bitterness. Smooth, easy to drink, decent session beer. Not anything to get to excited about, for me a DIPA should be a lot more aggressive. Prost!

With balance as the mainstay of this ale's mantra, the hops are front and center with citrus, pine, and grass. But the counteract of malt allows the caramel, honey, and grain sweetness to counter in a more unique and even-keel way than is present in standard IPAs.

And caramel in its color, the ale pours with a slight tinge of haze. Above which builds a hearty and dense froth of ecru foam. Firm retention and broken lace defines the beer's quality appearance.

Early on, the beer takes on caramel and honey aromas and flavors. With a wandering waft of citrus and a pungent bouquet of piney herbs. Its nose and initial taste is sweet and supportive to the hop onslaught to come. The ale slowly relinquishes its sweetness and starts to prefer the taste of citrus peels, pine needles, resin, and grass before falling into a decisive bitterness that controls the late palate, but is careful not to dominate it. Still, a caramel and honey note resists all that bitterness and remains alive and well even in the beer's lingering finish.

Semi-full in body, the malty weight of the beer is felt because of its residual malt sweetness and its dissolved carbonation. The ale slowly waivers in its sweetness and creaminess but never completely turns over its malt sweetness or body and keeps the beer timidly balanced until the end. Late warmth, resinous hop dryness, and retreating sweetness leads to a malty-dry finish and lingering hop bitterness.

Six Row devises a wonderful Imperial IPA that's delicious, smooth, and powerful. But among the plethora of varieties on the market, this DIPA does everything to stay in the moderate line of the style, but also does little to stand out of the crowd.

A- 22 oz bomber with no freshness date. Clear medium amber. Not much head retention but great lacing. A good looking beer.

S- Massive hop aroma. Pine and marigold totally dominate the nose. Almost overpowering but not quite. Very appropriate for a double.

T- Bitter and sweet at the same time. Great balance. The piney hops are prominent with a dry finish. There are also some herbal/mint notes about mid way.

M- Medium full body with some alcohol warmth in back.

O- This is a bold DIPA with a unique hop profile. An interesting and flavorful offering.

Two full fingers of off-white tan head top this striking reddish orange brew. Retention and lacing are excellent. Very fine citrusy hops fuse with some caramel, a slight sour aroma, and gum. The smell is quite unique and promising. Unfortunately the bold aromas don't translate to flavor. I get some grain, candy, fruit and a nondescript hopppiness. There's just not that much going on here. Medium bodied and too easy to drink for a DIPA. This beer needs to grow some balls.

Served in tap in a pint glass

This beer pours light orange and is rather see through. It has a very potent hop nose reminiscent of Hopslam and double trouble. Very citrusy and skunky and appropriate for the area. The taste reflects nose but seems to lack anything more then a hop flavor and also has a stronger then I prefer alcohol presence. The beer is fairly drinkable, not a huge feel to it but has a bit of alcohol burn. It leaves behind a dry and freshly hopped palate. Good stuff

22 oz bomber poured into a shaker.

A - Clear light to medium amber with a massive, speckled white head that lasts. Carbonation appears light.

S - Very big grapefruit aroma plus... something else. Blue grape? Plum?

T - Crisp and brisk for a big double IPA. Serious hop aroma and flavor with a bready, doughy background. Finish has a little effervescense left with a good, solid bitterness. Finish is medium dry.

M - Medium body, medium carbonation. Slick oiliness present in a very small amount. Good, but not great.

O - A great, STL based double IPA. Seems to have jumped on the grapefruit bandwagon, but with an added twist. Must try if in STL.

Slightly hazy yellow amber in color. Forms a small white head that reduces down to next to nothing. Some light lacing. Aroma is of mild caramel malts, citrus hops, and a bit of grapefruit. Taste starts off with a moderate citrus sweetness, then bread and some light caramel malts. Mild citrus hops with flavor of orange and grapefruit. Finishes with a mild earthy bitterness. Medium body with carbonation a bit on the low side for the style. Mild bitterness. Underhopped and unexciting, the best thing I can say about this beer is that it doesn't have any glaring flaws. However, this one could easily pass for a straight IPA and is an average DIPA at best.
