Cloudy straw color. No idea what kind of head it could've had because the bar tender filled the glass all the way to the tip top. No lacing. Smells of lemon and faint cracked pepper. Taste is a little sour up front with a smooth wheat middle and peasant bitter finish. Mouth feel is smooth with medium-high carbonation.

Good brew, but definitely not worth the price at the airport...

Poured from the tap a cloudy peach color with no head whatsoever.

Aroma of hoppy lemon, faint yeast and grain.

The taste was malty with grassy hops and a light fruitiness.

Light-to-medium bodied and crisp with a moderate carbonation.

A decent beer from Six Row.

Served on-tap at Bull and Bear restaurant in Edwardsville, IL, in a pint glass. Small, but dense, one-finger head, over a hazy pale yellow body. Decent lacing.

Light aroma - grainy with a little citrus. Not very impressive, but not far from what is expected from an Pale Wheat.

The flavor is OK - more lemon citrus than orange. A light bit of spicy hop flavor. Pretty good flavor blend, and I do like the slight emphasis on the hops.

Light consistency in the mouthfeel, and very drinkable. Looking forward to trying more from this brewery.

I was served this American Pale Wheat Ale on tap in a pint glass. The ale poured a slightly hazy amber color and it produced a decent white head with good retention. The was an ample amount of lacing left behind. The aroma was full of malt and wheat and hops. The beer was medium in body, a strong malt base with some orange peel, and citrus like hop flavor. This ale starts off a little sweet but it finish's clean. Overall, pretty good beer- First ale from Six Row- I will be making a trip to the brewery in the near future.

The appearance of Whale is cloudy straw with a light fluffy head on top. The smell is light, but is yeasty with hints of lemon and aroma hops (Cascade and Goldings). The beer is lightly carbonated and is very refreshing. It drinks with a notable yeast and somewhat malty backbone taste. It finishes clean with a light tingle from the carbonation. For being a beer that the brewers brewed only because they needed to test their equipment (and wouldn’t feel bad about dumping if it flopped), Six Row has found one of their flagship beers. It’s a tasty and session worthy beer.

Orange in color and quite cloudy. Head and lacing were so-so.

Smelled slightly sourish, with plenty of malts and no shortage of hops either, along with a lightly lemony scent.

Tasted rather forwardly lemony and quite sour although we're not talking a "sour" here, just of a more sour taste than I would expect from this style, and much more than I expected from the smell. Wheat flavors came next, along with a nice hops profile and a bready malt finish.

The body was pretty good, medium and pretty easy to drink, with a lemony aftertaste.

A bit of an odd beer if you ask me. Tasty but not fantastic.

On tap at the brewpub. 3 ounce pour from the sampler

The description of this is a hybrid beer or a blend of a few different styles. It pours a hazy orange color. Smell is wheat grains, some malts, and hops. Taste is pretty simple with some malts and hops. Doesn't really taste like a wheat beer at all. Mouthfeel is thin. Drinkability is alright. Not the highlight from the sampler.

I was impressed by how balanced this beer was, especially after hearing that it was made with 10 malts, and included wheat.

What stood out was its taste: what I thought to be honey peaked through the hops the most. It was crisp and held its taste throughout the sample.

I drank it alone, but imagined it would taste great with something light, like a salad with some citrus on it or a cheese and nut platter.

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and decent lacing. Smells of sweet malt, herbs, hops, slight hop oil, tartness, hint of grass, slight pale malt, and slight yeast. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of yeast, sweet malt, tartness, slight hop, grass, and citrus (tangerine/peach?). Overall, weak appearance, good aroma, feel, and body.

A: Yellow, very slight haze, filtered, but maybe a chill haze. Big ol' head, hangs around for a bit.

S: Many things pop up..Pretzels. pizza dough. Homemade bread.

T: Obvious pizza dough/bready as hell intro. I picked up a sweetness from the malts, but, after the quaff, it evened out by a little bittering from the hops.

M: Bit more than a light body, leaves a nice semi-sweet taste in the mouth

D: As with the Kolsch, I would like to have this cold, on a hot STL day. It's neat little story behind this brew, and, I'll be damned if it really doesn't remind me of New Glarus Crack'd Wheat, minus some hops.

This is currently their "crazy" beer, with the 10 malts, combined with a hearty dose of hops, producing an unique brew.

Semi hazy amber as it's not filtered, a tinge of copper around the edges, the big malt bill leaves sheets of Brussels lace in the standard shaker pint.

Very malty wheat aroma, thick and rich. Quaff reminds me a bit of a Belgian Wit with some orange and citrus arriving on the scene. Good thing there's a good hop finish, the initial quaff is fairly sweet, close to cloying. But in the end, she balances out, a tasty lil' brew.

A - Pours a cloudy honey color. Fairly typically looking wheat beer. It has a little over one finger slightly offwhite head with great rentention. Lacing was minimal.

S - Mainly smells of lemon. There is also a slight grassy aroma.

T - Lots going on here. The beer starts out on a spicy note, but quickly turns to a sweet lemony citrus. There is also quite a bit of maltiness present and it finishes with a slightly sour but pleasant aftertaste

M - almost a medium bodied beer. Still very easy drinking. Almost has a slick feel to it. Lots of carbonation

O - Interesting wheat beer with lots going on. Its a little spicy, little sweet, a little sour, with lots of flavor. Great summer beer. Would pick up again.

I was very confused when I first heard the term, "Whale Ale". Then I realized that this is a pale ale using wheat. The color is very similar to what you would find in a Belgian White. The taste is somewhat bitter but it certainly isn't the dominating factor. This is probably one of my favorite brews at the moment and if you ever find yourself in St.Louis, you should give a try.

Pours out a slightly cloudy yellow amber color with just a tad of the white foam. No lacing here.
Smell is faint bread and just a touch of spice.
Taste is weak and watery but the flavor is there. Some lemon but mostly dry grain.
Mouthfeel is very clean and that is not a good thing. This is a wash-out more than a good mouthfull of beer.
Overall this isn't terrible but leaves a lot to the imagination.

22 oz bomber into a shaker.

A - Deep gold to amber with a slight haze. Moderate bright white head. Carbonation appears moderate. Lacing slight.

S - Distant ale esters with a hint of bready malt at the fringes of perception. No off aromas detected, but I want more.

T - Initial toasted bread transitions to a biscuity mid with very distinct, clean bitterness. A honey like flavor near the back transitions to a very clean, dry finish with only a wisp of ending bitterness. The very picture of drinkability.

M - Medium body with brisk carbonation. Pushes the envelope of heaviness for a light session beer.

O - A zombie of ingredients turns into a mild-mannered session wheat pale ale. I could put down a few on a hot day like this. Not a once in a lifetime beer, but for a session pale ale, it's top-of-the-line.

A: Pours a copper color with a good head that fades to nominal lacing.

S: Mild aroma of citrus and fresh grain with a bit of sweetness in the background.

T: Mild taste of fresh grain with some citrus and bit of malt sweetness. nice bitterness and a dry finish.

F: fairly light body, crisp but smooth with a nice balance.

O: Decent beer that goes down easy. Good summer time beer. Nice offering from a local brewer.

A - Poured out a clear, golden/amber color with a small, tan head of bubbly foam. It left some sudsy trails of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of wheat, grasses and some lemon. Nice but not spectacular.

T - It tasted of cracked wheat, some sweet caramel, grassy/yeastiness and a touch of lemon.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a pretty nice wheat beer. Not my favorite style but it was pretty good.

Poured into a pint glass from a freshly filled growler.

A - Pours a pale golden color with a thin .5 inch head that is white and recedes at a medium rate.

S - Aroma starts off with refreshing grainy wheat and some slight bready sweetness. There are hints of grassy hops in the finish. Especially on the back end.

T & M - Starts off with some nice refreshing grain and and earthy wheat. Nice and bready with some slight grassy hops that give it a kick. Nothing too strong but there is some nice hop twang. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing and crisp perfect for yard work.

O - A good offering and probably my favorite from Six Row because of accessibility.
