Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Reviewed live.
A- Two finger light brown head, middling retention and no real lacing to talk about. Dark chocolate color body, no clarity. Typical stout look, the carbonation is well developed though, so above average.
S- Strong toffee smell, chocolate, caramel, burnt malts and definite alcoholic esters. Nice smelling brew.
T- Surprisingly, the most obvious taste is alcohol. Roast malts and a smidgen of chocolate and coffee finish it off with roasty flavors. Not what I expected, but not bad by any means.
M- The first word that comes to mind is grainy. There seems to be a residue of like powder after the taste. Not sure what the deal is there.
O- Very solid and above average stout with the exception of that weird mouthfeel. I want to visit this place when I come home next.

Poured nearly opaque black with a crazy tall tan head - might have been something with my bottle, but the first glass I poured had a head that wouldn't dissipate at all. Smell is great - powdery cocoa, malt, dough, and something else (a distinct doughy, yeasty scent that reminds me of something that I just can't recall). Taste is more chocolate, fresh dough and a hint of alcohol. Solid medium to medium/heavy mouthfeel that fits the style and flavor without being too syrupy.
Very interesting and very good, though I'm wondering based on other reviews if my bottle had something a little "off" about it - such a strong doughy character that I think others would have mentioned.
Would like to try this again for comparison, but even if this is what the beer is supposed to be, it's a solid and delicious beer.

One finger of tan head. Pitch black body.
The smell is a faint roasted malt and chocolate.
The taste is good and interesting. Roasted malt, bread, chalk, chocolate and powder.
Low carbonation and medium to thicker body.
It is a good stout with a little different taste, which is good.

Poured nearly jet black except for a some dark brown when held to the light,a 1/2 finger deep tan colored head atop.Dark roast and dark fruit dominate the aromas, the dark fruit really sticks out here.Roasty and pretty dry on the palate, the dark fruit is there but plays a limited role,a true American stout with it's big earthy dryer tones.Another killer beer from Fire Mountain,I hope we see more of their line here in NC.

22oz. Picked up at Brawleys in Charlotte.
About black pour, nice layer of frothy dark cream colored head.
Aroma, roast malt, chocolates, cocoa. Faint anise, peat, smoke.
Taste, A real nice balance if roast, dark chocolates, cocoa, coffee. Light woody smoke and herbal hop notes.
Standout creamy body, right in the middle. Goes down quite easy, no alcohol presence.
A very nice interpretation of the style. Close to a foreign stout.

22oz bottle split into a couple large snifters
Pours dark black with a thin creamy ring of tannish head. Looks still. Smell is smokey, chocolatey, and maybe a hint of caramel.
Taste is roasty bitter, like super dark chocolate, with a hint of fruit and a bit of smoke. It's pretty interesting.
Mouthfeel is surprisingly effervescent, not thick or sticky. Almost light feeling for a stout.
Overall, this seems like a quite solid stout to me.

Purchased tonight at the Boise COOP... Poured into my little CC goblet... fantastic retention and lacing..
Mild roast surprisingly on the nose.... dark fruits and toasty malts come out quite a bit... still enough cocoa and roastiness makes for a good aroma.... a bit of EtOH... but I'm not complaining.
Flavor has quite a bit of bittersweet chocolate and a lesser amount of roast/coffee elements... a bit of light fruity esters make me think ripe plum... subtle and inviting... this is a good brew.
I am surprised how much I like this brew.... Very well made.. Pushes the boundaries with lighter Imperial Stouts while still remaining very drinkable despite the higher ABV... I don't drink stouts very often if I am "just having a brew", but I could see this as a go-to. Good Job.

dark black look to it and a nice head of maybe two inches that came up and over the top with some ease. Settling down it left a decent amount of lacing on the sides, but nothing spectacular though it did retain a good bit of the puff of tan on top. The aroma was nice, well blended mix of chocolate and roasted malts, hints of light coffee notes and a decent bit of dark fruit note carrying over. This was pretty much par for the course with the flavor. Started out very smooth with a rich and well defined chocolate note that dominated early before mellowing with a nice but of vanilla and coffee notes. Small touch of hops catching up right there at the end were enough to make it just slightly bitter

22oz Bottle poured into a Tulip.
No bottling date
A: Pours a motor oil black with a dark mocha head, excellent 3 fingers worth of head that leaves a fair amount of lacing
S: Chocolate and coffee are the most dominate features to the smell of this beer, a little bit of spice, maybe even some anise?Roasted malts as well.
T: Chocolate chocolate CHOCOLATE! Pretty good balance of malt to hops in this beer, but the chocolate profile makes this beet delish! Small amount of coffee in this beer, but fairly mute compared to most stouts. Roasted malt profile is excellent.
M: Very very smooth tasting as fair as flavors, alcohol is their, almost a little to much but not bad. Good carbonation to the finish.
O: Excellent, excellent beer. First from Fire Mountain, but it will not be the last! Great price point as well.

22 oz. bomber poured into a wine glass
A: Pours black with copper highlights, topped off by a thin tan head.
S: Smoky toasted malt, somewhat boozy.
T: Slightly smoky flavor, bourbon flavors, and mild chocolate.
M: Somewhat thin, with medium-high carbonation.
D: Low ABV, not too intense. I would drink this again if I came across it.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a tulip.
A: Jet black. This thing is dark. I don't have very high wattage bulbs in my beer room, but held up to one of them, no light gets through the glass. A light pour produced about 1.5 fingers of light tan colored head. Head dissipates to a ring around the glass in a few minutes, and leaves moderate lacing.
S: Somewhat subdued when cold, strengthens as it warms and breathes. At first it was simply bitter raw cocoa, a little hops, and "charred". As it warms, sweetness enters the equation, and the nose moves from dark unsweetened cocoa powder to semi-sweet chocolate.
T: Bold. Roasty, chocolatey, somewhat dry, lightly astringent. Alcohol is well masked, and only light warming in the finish is perceived. At first sip, there is a nice amount of sweetness, but the finish is dry, creating a fuller experience. Several minutes after each sip, dark chocolate bitterness and roasty flavors linger.
M: I'd put the mouthfeel in the goldilocks zone: not too thin, not too thick or syrupy - just right. This is soft and coating without being thick or sticky. Carbonation is low to medium, and works well in this beer. There's enough to spread the flavor and keep things light, but not too much to detract from it.
D: Drinkability is good. It's not cloying or hot, and there's plenty of flavor and complexity to keep you interested in more. Perhaps a bit bold for drinking all night, but I wouldn't want any less from this style.
Don't drink this one too cold. I usually just keep all my beers at about cellar temp, but this one came from the fridge. Fresh from the fridge, it lacked balance. The sweeter, lighter notes didn't come through, and it tasted pure charred and bitter. As it warmed, everything else came through, and it went from sub-par to very good. I've learned my lesson.

Poured into shaker pint glass 7.29.2010.
One finger dark tan head, medium dissipation with minimal lacing. Dark brown opaque body, no visible carbonation due to dark hue. Nose features a signficant coffee hit up front, some roasted malt, molasses and floral hops with a bit of grassiness, there's a lot going on here. Taste, actually more chocolate than coffee in taste, which coupled with hops for slightly bitter finish, got a bit more bitter as it warmed. Some non-chocolate sweetness, not a lot of bitter hop presence on the tastebuds. Mouthfeel is medium full, a bit thin IMO for style, not a lot of effervescence. Pretty drinkable, not an outlandish ABV, nice contrast of coffee, chocolate and hops. Worth a try.

22 oz bottle from Roths,Keizer. Dark dark almost black beer with a nice frothy beige head. Nice toasty, roasted malt aromas, slightly doughy with chocolate accents. Very pleasing taste all of the above plus a creamy coffee taste..a tinge of hop at th end and in the after taste. Great palate to this thick and luscious but goes down very well. Over all a good stout.

Poured from a 22oz bomber into a clear pint glass. No freshness date apparent. Purchased from local supermarket after a tasting with one of the brewers.
A-Pours a deep, dark brown almost black hue with a two finger, creamy tan head that dissipates quickly, as does the lace.
S-Dark chocolate and toasted malts. And coffee with a nicely balanced hop bill that includes Cascade and Fuggles.
T-Rich malt and dark chocolate with espresso coffee. Sufficiently hoppy, clean, and well balanced.
M-Very smooth, full bodied, and nicely carbonated.
D-This is a very drinkable stout. And a pleasant surprise from yet another, Willamette Valley microbrewery.
Also tasted the brewer's pale and IPA offerings. IPA was lacking, but the pale was quite adequate, but I have difficulty paying $5 a bomber when I can buy very good pale ale for $6-7 a six pack. This stout was quite nice and I will have again, especially when I don't want an imperial stout.

Thanks to msubulldog25 for this Oregon rarity--a more generous beer-trader does not exist. Hail Brian!
Pours the deepest ebony color with a golden-brown head that reminds of a lightly toasted marshmallow. The head doesn't stick around long and thins to a crown quickly.
Nice robust aroma, with the expected roasted characteristics making room for a rich chocolate sweetness, fresh cream and a mild hint of anise. Dark fruits flash by, riding by on the faintest ghost of the 7.6% alcohol.
The flavor brings the kind of balance I like in a stout of this nature--elements of charred wood make up its main character, but that's not all you get. The supporting cast of cocoa powder, lightly-acidic coffee, grass clippings and weak black licorice add considerable depth. In the finish, grassy hops and only the slightest mineral character ride through with coffee leading the way.
Texturally, this has a slick glide that makes for easygoing drinking, and although this is one stout that can't be called thick or chewy, it has a nice milky creaminess to it that works.
With the malt and hops bringing various flavors to tongue/mind, it's easy to overlook that this is actually 7.6%--it could've been 4.6% for all I could tell. The alcohol hardly makes itself known. Glad to have tried this one, and it'll be interesting to see how Fire Mountain fares in the future. Good luck to 'em!
