Fresh 12 0z bottle, "best by" dated June 18, 2011. Served in pint glass. Brewed by "New Yorker Brewing Co., Utica, NY". Also from bottle: "brewed with generous amounts of American hops, including Cascade, Centennial and Amarillo ... using barley malt, Munich and English crystal malt" IBU = 67
Pours a clear amber color with medium bubbling and enough tan head to nearly reach the lip of the point glass. Head has good retention and leaves considerable lacing.
A - Hop aroma over faint malt backdrop. Pleasant and appealing, but not strong or bold for style.
T - Starts crisp with a substantial hop flavor. The malt component is there, but overpowered by a hoppiness. Hops also dominate the finish and aftertaste, with a lingering hop/grapefruit bitterness. Both citrus and pine in both aroma and flavor of hops.
M - medium/light body with medium carbonation.
D - good for those who like a hoppy and rather bitter beer.
At $19 a case, this is a very good buy ... except: only available in mix packs with 3 other varieties, some of which are likely to be less attractive to the hop-heads to which this beer will most appeal.

this beer had a strong taste much like a rusty nail. and not the good kind with scotch and drambuie. very strong metallic taste overwhelmed the hops. maybe it was just this batch but even though the price was right I think it was my first and last case.

Appearance: Cloudy amber pour with effervescence noted. Sticky white head that retains well.
Aroma: Mild earthy hop notes up front. Low fruity esters. Clean fermentation character. A little biscuit aroma as it is agitated.
Flavor: Earthy hop bitterness up front. Followed by moderate biscuit and bread crust-like character. Balance is toward bitter but there is more than enough malt character to balance. Finish is clean and dry.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation. No astringency or alcohol heat.
Overall impression: More like an amber. A good beer, just not an IPA.

Smell: a little like a skunky near-beer. Maybe St. Pauly Girl. That's it - it smells like St. Pauly Girl after too many days in the sun.
Taste: glue from the back of a postage stamp.
So, pretty much what you'd expect from Costco brand beer. I don't care how cheap it is, you have to have standards, people.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a nice amber copper color with a big cream colored head. The head has a decent level of retention fading over time to leave a good level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The smell is bready and caramel sweet with a nice blend of a grapefruit citrus hop and some lighter notes of a floral smells.
Taste – The taste is upfront bready with a light caramel sweetness with a decent amount of grapefruit hop flavors. As the taste advances further there are flavors of a pine hop come to the tongue with a loss of much of the sweeter flavors. The grapefruit hop flavors get stronger as the taste advances to the end where a moderately hoppy, bitter, and dry flavor are left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is rather average. The thickness suits the hop flavors quite well while the medium carbonation is nice for complementing the more crispness of the brew.
Overall – Not too bad, but a little too much of the a bitter grapefruit is left to linger on the tongue at the end of the taste leaving a somewhat unbalanced taste. Not bad and for ~ 75 cents for the bottle this is definitely a good deal.
