This was a pretty good hefeweizen.

Appearance- apricot color, inch of head, nice lacing

Smell- banana and clove notes

Taste- huge banana flavor, wheat flavor, really enjoyed the flavor

Mouthfeel- light to medium bodied

Drinkability- pretty good, can't beat the cost at Costco, would drink it again but I have had better hefeweizens

A- Huge cream colored head with a slightly hazy orange body and tons of carbonation.

A- I'm getting banana and sweet malt.

T- Pretty bland taste. Some light wheat malt flavor. Sweet, but bland.

M- Medium body with moderate carbonation. Kindof sticks to my mouth, but nowhere near cloying.

D- Not bad for the price, but definitely not a great hefeweizen.

Appearance: Looks golden orange with lots of bubbles

Head: Very light tan head

Smell: Sweet grassiness

Taste: Sweet maltyness that slides into subtle orange, citric hop note

Weight: Medium to light body with low carbonation

Finish: Wheat and hints of orange with a subtle hop

Over: I want to say this is no Hefeweizen this is an American wheat beer that's malty, Yet light at the same time, ask me for another and I would say yes.

Let's call a spade a spade. This beer was awful.

Three fingers of white head over a filtered light amber. I guess it's pleasant to look at for a bit, but that's this beer's only saving grace. Aromas are falling flat. So flat that I have nothing to say about them. Flavors are missing the yeast qualities I look for in a hefe. No banana, no cloves...nothing. I guess it's a bit biscuity? And a lot cloying. Mouthfeel is lightly carbed. Blegh whatever, this beer is just bad. Don't buy it.

Kirkland Signature Hefeweizen was light amber in color and hazy. It had a white head with decent retention and lacing. The smell was light malt with a little clove. The taste was malt upfront with some hop flavor and a touch of bitterness following. The finish was dry and lightly bitter. The mouthfeel was average with a medium-light body and medium carbonation. The drinkability was average as well. This is a pretty basic and light version of a Hefeweizen.

The high rating might be due to the label. I heard good things about this beer, and I must say, it's very acceptable and appropriate to the style. It's certainly a sweeter than spicy hefeweizen, but it's got an appropriate hop bitterness. Very good looking and I would drink more of these. Do not overlook, please, because of the generic label.

With a six-pack of good beer going for $9 - $10 you have to consider the Kirkland case for $19. That's 80 cents a bottle compared to $1.50 per bottle. Credit goes to my wife. She read the Consumer Reports article comparing Kirkland Hefeweizen to Paulaner. So off to Costco to by a case, which contains 6 hefeweizens and 6 each of a lager, amber ale, and pale ale. The Kirkland is pretty good! It's a dark Hefe and unfiltered. The head is as expected for a Hefe, with a nice aroma. The flavor is slightly more malty sweet than a lighter hefe, with a good balance of citrus. Easy to drink. Have some fun by inviting your fellow beer snobs to a blind taste test between the Costco Hefe and Paulaner.

Pours a transparent golden with a white head that shrinks slowly. No significant lacing.
Smells of grain, slightly yeasty and a d a bit fruity but cannot pick up much else.
Tastes slightly wheaty...grainy really, with a bit of a green apple tinge. Slight metallic taste that disappears as it warms/breathes a bit.
Goes down clean and crisp. Very easy drinking, low ABV helps though. Could probably have a few but would get bored after one... I'm bored half a beer in actually.

Not bad, but not good. I'm not sure of the exact pricing but probably would be a good replacement to cater to the macro drinkers at your next party.
