had on tap. I thought that this was a belgian witbeer when I was drinking it. has some banana flavors to it; I thought white indicated "wit". it was cloudy llike a wheat beer. the mouthfeel was thicker like wheat as well. call me crazy but i didnt second guess it. overall this beer was pretty good, but for the price i wouldn't buy it again, I'd just go try something else

Served in a Chimay chalice at Firkin.
It's been a while since I've had a nice Chimay white, so let's see how it goes tonight. It pours a lightly-cloudy amber-brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises bread, Belgian yeast, light clove, and a hint of orange peel. The taste brings in more of the same, with more clove and black pepper and a bit of banana peel for good measure. The breadiness is also toned down a bit here, helping the spices shine through. The body is a light-leaning medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a drying finish. Overall, a nice tripel, but not quite the paragon of the style I used to consider it being. The yeast comes across too bready and dominant to allow for much nuance to surface, but at least it's a tasty yeast effect...

On tap at the Cheeky Monk in Denver into a chalice.
A-The brew is orange-tinted straw in color. My pour did not have much head, maybe 3/4 of a finger of dense white foam. The foam dropped to a fat ring around the glass and the head left a little bit of lacing.
S-The smell is quite sweet with huge banana flavor. There is a mild hit of spice in the back of the nostrils (pepper and clove), but this brew tends toward sweet and estery. Also, some powdery yeast.
T-Taste is slightly less sweet and estery than the smell, but not much. You still get a big hit of banana-flavored yeast, but the taste provides a bit more grassy, herbal balance. Spices are noticeable, but not prominent. I detect mostly clove and pepper.
M-This brew feels right. Carbonation is noticeable, but very fine and mild, which leads to a creamy sensation that new-world brewers have yet to truly figure out. Medium bodied.
O-This is an enjoyable tripel. I happen to like the sweetness of the yeast here, but others may want a more herbal variety. Fabulous mouthfeel makes for a drinkable, but not chugable beer.

Chimay Triple, 8% abv golden tripel. In the 75 cl bottle, it is known as Cinq Cents. This crisp beer bears a light orange colour, and is the most hopped and driest of the three.Chimay White Tripel
A: Cloudy blonde, with a medium white head.
S: Strong fruit.
T: Sweet bready/yeast flavor. Smooth finish .
M: Medium bodied with light carbonation.
O: I really enjoy this beer. Monks putting in good work.

Had on-tap, around the corner. Appearance was a light orange, golden color with VERY slight (almost nonexistent) creamy head that was likely due more to the college pour from the bartender than the beer itself. Caught a surprising whiff of bananas, cloves, and dried fruit. Reminded me of a weird heffy, but in a good way. Taste was awesome... white grape fruitiness at first with a dry, peppery bite to it on the back end. I also tasted a bit of booziness that lingered well after sipping. Very carbonated, but it goes well with the style. Really enjoyed this beer, though it could be more nostalgia driving this review as Chimay was what got me into craft beer.

Golden pour, thin white head, fine lacing. Typical Trippel smell, though nothing too prominent. Taste is underwhelming compared to all I've heard about this being an excellent brew. Notes of banana, clove, wheat, and a touch of spice. Tastes like a slightly weaker and more bitter St. Bernardus Tripel. Head was not as creamy or large as St. bernardus either. I'm willing to give this the benefit of the doubt though and blame it on an old keg or dirty lines, but overall I was disappointed compared to all I've heard about this Trappist brew.

A: single finger head on a hazy golden body.
S: aroma is very light. Corriander, Belgian yeast and tropical fruit, mostly pineapple.
T: lots of corriander, mild yeast, with fruitiness from apple and pineapple. Mild herbal and earthy notes. Fairly simple. Sweetness to the finish.
M: lighter side of medium body and high carbonation. Semi dry finish.
Overall: Chimay beers are both good and drinkable but I will always feel they are overhyped.

Pours a bright, slightly hazy, dark gold coloring with a foamy, dense, frothy white head of about a half an inch.
Aromas begin with bready and grainy malts which then lends to light apricots, citrus and mustiness. As it warms it gets slightly vinous and candy-like maltiness.
The tastes begin with light breadiness, orange blossom honey, and candy sugar with lesser citrus/apricot juicy flavors. Yeast adds some flavors of spice, must and earthiness.
The mouthfeel is full but not overpoweringly so like many higher ABV offerings of this style. Finish is dry thanks to substantial carbonation. Drinks very smooth, lighter on the palate then I thought it would have been, but very nice. As it warms you get some more light banana and clove notes; very satisfying.
Overall this is an enjoyable Tripel that is quite drinkable, interesting and readily available. Nothing mind-blowing; just super solid.

Enjoyed on-tap @ the Beer Sellar in Nashville, TN for $8. Tapped from the White Tap Handle w/ CHIMAY across the top into a 15oz, Gold Rimmed Chimay Goblet Glass. Great glassware!
Aroma- Very nice belgian yeast and complexed sugars/malt come up strong. Has a good amount of spice as well.
Appearance- Received with a 1 finger, frothy head that has great retention. Has a deep golden colored body with haze galore. Leaves a great amount of lacing behind.
Flavor- Tons of complexity and full of character. Light spices and finishes with a light bitterness and good amount of yeast character.
Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied, Creamy, Effervescent, High Carbonation, and has great qualities on the finish.
Overall Impression- A very nice brew by Chimay but not my favorite.. I go with the Blue quite often. Would still suggest trying if available. Will have/review in bottle and compare.

Poured on-tap and served in a chalice, the beer is a bright, slightly hazy, dark gold coloring with a foamy, dense, frothy white head of about a half an inch. Aromas are lightly toasted grains and biscuit, with a hint of banana and lemon zest and only a slight spicing. Flavors are crisp and clean, on a smooth body, with the clove and pepper spicing becoming more forward and strong to accent the palate. Bready and fruit highlighted backbone provide stabiltiy for the highlight characteristics, and the beer has an overall lightness to it. Great, solid lacing left along the glass. The aftertaste is a blend of the spicing and lemony sweetness, leading to a clean, slightly dry finish. This is a great beer!

Enjoyed this one on-tap at the Winking Lizard, here are the quick notes I made:
The beer was served in a Chimay snifter with a golden body with a nice one inch head.
The aroma was great, yeast/bread, citrus, mellow dried fruits, and some malt. A great smelling beer but not too overpowering.
The taste goes hand in hand with the aroma, a great example of a tripel.
Great medium body that was easy to drink and enjoy.

A: Hazy golden color with a beautiful off white head.
S: A really nice mix of fruit and grassy hops. A good amount of spiciness to the aroma as well.
T: Banana, clove and a nice dash of grassy and slightly peppery hops alongside some nice spiciness. Really tasty stuff. I need to get this more often.

a - hearty golden pour with frothy head, right into a chimay chalice...picturesque
s - eyes closed, an easy triple pick...belgian yeasts/fruits, somewhat earthy, bit sweet...
t - An easy cream finish completes the sweet breadiness of this triple. A blend of dark fruit, Belgian yeast and sweet sugars make this beer quite tasty.
m - Medium bodied, creamy beer that flows quite smoothly
o - Two thumbs up!

Served on-draught into a Chimay stemgoblet in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed from notes. Paired with barbecue.
A: Pours a 1.5 finger head of lovely cream, excellent thickness, and great retention. Colour is a pale yellow-gold.
Sm: Caramel, orange citrus fruit ester hops, and pleasant cream. A mild strength aroma.
T: A simple blend of the notes from the nose. The esters in particular are nice, especially on the finish. Light cream undertones are pleasant throughout. Not too complex, but refreshing and balanced. No alcohol comes through.
Mf: Smooth, slightly creamy, refreshing, and wet. Complementary of the flavours. Not too thick or thin.
Dr: Very pleasant and drinkable. I dig it on draught. Hides its ABV well. Well done for the style. Give her a spin, lads.
I don't recommend cellaring/aging this. It doesn't have a suitable flavour profile. Enjoy fresh. Pairs well with food.

On-tap at a bar in Manhattan that's name escaped me; served in a Chimay goblet.
A: Pours a frosty pale with a fading head of white foam.
S: Smells delicious! funky, Belgian yeast and and cloves with hints of citrus, fresh fruits and sweetness.
T: Crisp balance of funk, citrus hops and flan sweetness. It lays heavy on the tongue and finishes dank and fruity.
D: Alcohol is hidden and boldness and complexity of flavours makes this something that I look forward to every time I reach for the glass.
Overall: A great beer! This is such a treat and a delicious experience. Its among the best Tripels and is refreshing and complex.

On draft at Matchbox in DC
Pours a medium golden color w/ an off white head. Good carbonation and lacing in the Chimay goblet. Fairly light nose for what I was expecting from this tripel. The nose is yeast, spices, malt, clove. Fairly light (again) for a tripel. Taste is the same profile, on the light side for the style, but good nonetheless. Feel is very carbonated, and very dry. This beer is good, but there two other Chimays that ar better. The Grande Reserve is a world class beer, and the Dubbel is really excellent as well. This beer is good, but not what I expect from Chimay. Cheers.

Served on-tap in a tulip. Appears a nice golden color with a thick white head. The head leaves beautiful lacing and has great staying power.
Nose is sweet with nice spices, and wonderful Belgian yeast. Smells great and very refreshing. There is a hint of alcohol in the nose, but it's not overly powerful. Taste is fruity, sweet and spicy. Tastes just like a tripel should. This is extremely refreshing and everything just works together in great ways.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, high in carbonation. Finishes dry with a little bitterness there. Overall, a great beer. If it wasn't so expensive it could be my go-to. Just love the way everything goes together and the refreshing qualities it has.

18cL pour into Chimay goblet at Auberge de Poteaupré.
A: An orangy yellow body color. 1/2 finger of snow white head quickly subsides.
S: Some lemony notes, bread, not much in the way of malts or hops here...smells balanced and refreshing.
T: Citrus, touch of spice (cinnamon?), slight bready flavor as well, hint of malt.
M: Sparkly, not prickly, carb helps convey the flavors and fullness of the beer.
O: Tripels are one of my least favorite styles, but this one is pretty good. I still prefer Karmeliet and Westmalle for the style.

Beer is a cloudy gold color with some little bubbles and a creamy offwhite head that leaves some good lacing.
The smell is of yeast, hops and some spice.
The taste is quite yeasty with a bit of floral hops and some spice notes coming through, some wheat in the middle too. A pretty dry finish. No sweetness to this beer or much detectable malt. The mouthfeel is very nice, coats your mouth and the bubbles feel really good.
A solid beer, but not my favorite type of beer. Definately something a beer fan should try.

Found this on the menu at Yardhouse and gave it a try after seeing such high reviews. Poured into a goblet.
A - Really nice pour. Perfect amount of foam, about 1 finger. The color was a really nice orange and cloudy, so you couldn't see through the beer.
N - Pleasant and easy, with some hints of fruit. I rated a 4 because I didn't think it was an unpleasant smell but definitely didn't think it was anything special.
T - Compared to other Tripel's, this one was my favorite. From start to finish this beer leaves you satisfied and with a real nice taste. I'm writing up the review a day after, so I'm going to limit what I put here, but definitely loved the fruit notes on this one. They didn't overpower that malt taste, and instead brought a real nice balance.
O - Excellent beer. I definitely can't wait to drink again, but I'm not sure how it would be coming out of a bottle. There is a lot to enjoy from this beer, so I definitely suggest a goblet.

A-cloudy orange with a big a sticky frothy white head
S-strong spices and light belgian malts strong scent
T-comes in with an extremely smooth and hot taste of belgian pale malts and spices. the flavors themselves are subtle until the after-taste which seems to be the refined part of this beer. some tastes seem to be more hot and full of alcohol then others.
M-watery soft carbonation with a soft watery finish
O-this beer seems to be a little harsh, definitely the most harsh of three colors. the taste is one thing, but the mouthfeel is just awful. its definitely a good beer overall, but there are many better other tripels out there that make me want to not waste my time on this. i'd be interested in trying this in the bottle though.

This beer was dispensed from the tap into a Chimay chalice. The color is a golden light orange and has a nice fine, lacey head that is about a finger thick.
It smells like a sweet white grape juice mixed with an aroma of Champagne and earthy musk. You can clearly smell the aromas of the hops.
Nicely hopped and dry. There is hoppy bitterness that is balanced by the sweetness of the malt and fine yeast flavor. I taste hints of grapes, raisins, and apple. The bitterness of the hops has a slight orange rind taste.
The mouthfeel is amazing. This is medium bodied, finely carbonated, has a dry finish. Easy to drink and goes well with crab cakes!
