A: Pours an attractive colour with substantial head. Lacing also good. 4.5

S: lees, Belgian yeast, tropical fruits- sourness; pineapple, citrus. Definitely some herbal hops in there also. Fair bit of umami. Sweet baked bread. 4.5

T: Definitely some yeast, mango, dry notes. Not much sweetness but some alcohol. Alcohol is well integrated with the flavour. Some herbal hops. 4

M: Good, quite syrupy. 4

D: Expensive but not bad. I could see myself drinking this on tap at a pub even. 4

Aroma: Peppery, tart fruit

Taste: Tart, tangy, slightly sour fruit, dry, hoppy finish

Remarks: Initially tried in bottle, but had a chance to drink at the Inn at Chimay, too.

Cinq Cents pours a cloudy orange with an off white head of very fine, very soft foamy bubbles. The nose is floral hops and bright citrus. Grapefruit. Superb retention and lacing . The taste is smooth. creamy and not a hint of alcohol until it warms you in the long dry finish. Crisp. It’s perfectly balanced so that the citrus is not at all sour. It’s perfect and elegant.

Serving Type - 330ml 'stuby' bottle, poured into a tulip glass (for lack of a chalice)

Appearance - Pours a hazy golden-copper colour, with three fingers of bright white fluffy, cloud like head.

Smell - Some fruit, mostly apricots and maybe some really light citrus. There is also a good deal of spice and yeast.

Taste - Spice right up front. Fruits from the middle to the end...apricots, dates, prunes...dark fruits in general. There's a definite yeasty flavour throughout. A boozy taste lingers. A decent tripel.

Mouthfeel - Very carbonated, medium body. A very, very dry finish.

Overall - 4/5 Picked up two bottles, threw one in the cellar. Hopefully this gets even better after a year or so.

Poured from a bottle into a chimay chalice.poured a hazy sunshine orange color with no clarity and two fingers of head. loads of carbonation streaming from the etching in the glass.
aroma was of bready malts, spicy and sweet fruits, citrusy with some hop smell and a little bit of funk. taste starts off a tad bitter then the sweet bready malts and belgian yeast kick in. also sweet fruits are in there . VERY complex and a an awsome brew. one of the best tripels imho.

Poured from a 330 ml bottle into a chalice.

A: pours a hazy gold with a nice foamy head. Retention is god and with dissipation you see a nice cloud on top.

S: Yeast of course, bread, fruits and alcohol are present.

T: the yeast comes through, as do spices. I find the alcohol a bit strong. Bitterness sneaks in at the end.

M: medium carbonation, good feel but the alcohol sticks with you.

O: a nice triple, but it was drier than I expected. I also found the alcohol a bit more prominent than I have with other tripels, which I was not expecting from a Chimay. This would make a great beer on a chilly fall evening.
