Growler pour from Brett at the Schmidy's Beer School. Another night of sharing with the Coachella valley home brewers. Always appreciate something new.

A: Really dark pour with a very dark honey and redwood coloration. Constellations of off white almost brown bubbles hug the glass. Thick cauldron bubble head with massive a massive conglomeration of bubbles. Pretty good in the visual.

S: Really forward hoppy nose with a reserved bite. Little bits of nougat, toffee, bitter old barks, and a fair mount of dry leaf potpurris. A dash of alcohol in the finish.

T: Subdued hop with a faint sugary brittle taste. Light cough drop medicinal taste that lingers in the wake of what seems to be an older hop flavor. Some weak spice character that makes me want to revisit the spice cabinet for my palate's sake. Faint cardamom in the finish. The taste was pretty underwhelming.

M: Creamy with some nice mild astringency. Low quality satin in the mouth, dry but balanced. Brown paper bag after feels, some low grade sandpaper in the middle-end. The mouth seems to be evidence of some refinement, but the taste seems a bit off.

O: This beer wasn't bad, but there seems to be some kinks that could be worked out. The nose and the feel were significantly better than the taste. The hop and the malt seemed to neutralize each other with a stasis of flavor. Instead of a solid transition or two, all I got was a battle between hop and mellow candied malts. I wouldn't have cared which direction it took, but either the hops or malt must win! A civil war of ingredients with no end can never be a good thing. I think I'll remember ladyface as providing me with something I thought could be kind of good. I'll keep my eye out.

On-tap at Ladyface

A: The beer pours amber in color with a thin layer of khaki colored foam.

S: A decent citrus aroma to this one. Nice orange and tangerine notes up front with a touch of grass and some floral notes. Some sweet malt and toffee, maybe some toasted malts. A rather faint aroma of rye, though.

T: The flavor just kind of dies. There is a bit of citrus hop flavor, mostly sweet tangerine and orange. Sort of watery, but there is a bit of bread, toasted malt, and toffee. Like the nose, not too much rye. Minimal bitterness on the back end.

M: Medium bodied, but sort of a watery perception, if that makes sense. Medium carbonation.

O: The nose gave me hope, but the flavor was just not all that good.

Pours is a really nice looking dark amber, with nice red hints, large poofy white head.

Aroma is a blend of light hop notes and rye tinged malt, nose is a little stuffy right now so maybe not doing this justice.

Large bitter burst of hops upfront with rye tinged malt at the end of the sip, leaves a bitter hop character in the mouth. Fairly smooth and really easy to drink. Really tasty, best thing I've had from ladyface.
