22oz bottle poured into a snifter.
A: Orange colored with good clarity. Fine-bubbled off white head retains very well and leaves sticky rings of lacing.
S: Spocy hops, freshly cut grass, sauv blanc, pear, honeydew melon. This is cut into by bourbon and toasty wood. Soft caramel malt notes.
T: Assertive hop bitterness. Lots of spicy, earthy, and grassy flavor. Sauv blanc wine. Toast and caramel malt. The barrel comes on strong too with some peppery bourbon heat and a big dose of toasty wood. The barrel smothers some spicy hop flavor on the finish.
M: Full and big in body. Soft creaminess.mchewy and substantial, but not weighty. Softy scrubbing carbonation.
O: There's some great hop flavor at work here, but the bourbon barrel offsets and smothers it rather than being complementary. Not sure about this bourbon barrel aged IPA concept some brewers have been trotting out. Most aren't bad per se, but they present an odd flavor combo that usually doesn't mesh well. That's kind of what we have here. Great hopping and nice barrel aging, but taking them together just leaves the palate confused.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but is a recent release. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy orange/amber color with a 2 finger dense and rocky off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, light pine, caramel, honey, bread, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, whiskey, light floral/grass, and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/tropical hops, whiskey barrel, and moderate malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, light pine, caramel, honey, bread, toffee, vanilla, toasted oak, whiskey, light floral/grass, and oak/toasted earthiness. Moderate whiskey/oak spice and light piney bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, berry, lemon zest, pine, caramel, honey, bread, toffee, vanilla, whiskey, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/tropical hops, whiskey barrel, and moderate malt flavors; with a great malt/oak spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish with zero booziness. Overall this is a damn nice barrel aged DIPA style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/tropical hops, whiskey barrel, and moderate malt flavors; and very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Thick off-white head that sticks around for quite awhile all around the glass. Amber/orange color that is semi see through. Very strong sweet oak smell with a hint of orange and whiskey. Initial taste is soft whiskey that takes on more oak towards the finish. Like the smell, there is a small hint of orange with subtle hops throughout. Silky smooth feel that lingers on the tongue and really coats the entire mouth, but remains relatively light.
I very much enjoy their normal 471 and this beer is a great variation. I would have preferred more hops, but I enjoyed the complexity. Another great brew from Breckenridge.

Looks like crystal clear amber with a generous, sudsy head that's got some real staying power.
The first sniff gives away the whisky and oak odors, which are slightly sweet and rich. Closer inspection reveals some dry, fruity character - it might be melon, but that could be the suggestion from the name of the hop variety. A bit of molasses and malt add to the sweetness. Nevertheless, it smells fantastic, slightly tropical, and there is clearly a ton going on here in terms of complexity.
The taste is heavy on the bourbon and wood, but the addition of some dry-hopping adds the same slightly fruity, citrusy, grassy flavor to the mix. There is a loooot in this flavor profile to contemplate, like a Where's Waldo of flavors. Finish has only the slightest hint of dry bitterness, which is an interesting contrast to the sweeter malt and barrel flavors. If any points are lost here, it's that the strong booze and sweetness overpowers after the first few sips, making this one you need to take time with.
The feel is crisp and clean, once the head subsides. Lots of carbonation, and a slightly sticky texture, but mostly, the hardest part about putting down the fantastic beverage is the booze - this is a strong beast. Its 9.7% abv is a lot more potent than even some stronger beers I've had, and this is a bomber I will happily enjoy for a good long while this afternoon.
