A: pours a deep, dark red-brown with a lasting tan head.

S: rich caramel and malt; not complex but nutty and very appealing.

T: A rich caramel maltiness dominates, although it is accompanied by a light but near perfect contribution from earthy hops.

M: medium body; creamy; very good carbonation.

O: excellent and exceptionally malty for style. 4.25

This one is difficult for me to rate due to my lack of fondness of the style. Overall the appearance is spot on and perhaps a bit darker than other reds I have tried. The nose is Roasted grains. No lacing to speak of but the taste is very good. Even thought I dislike the style this is what I call a perfect session beer. Great to have around for a football game. Some rye seems to come across as well. Moderate mouthfeel and not too heavy. Overall probably the best red I have had, but I normally stay away from the style.

22oz. bottle from a brewery that I had never heard of poured into my Three Floyds' shaped pint glass.

Beer pours ad dark brownish red with a sizable off-white head. Goddamn, I can already smell this as it was pouring and it is not smelling good. Rank redwine vinegar with hints of black pepper. A little unusual for the style to say the least. Oh dear, this is disgusting. Something is wrong. Vinegar all the way and now it is time to feed this to the drain.

Not sure what is going on, but I am not impressed.

Ok still at the same location and working thru some local brews. Wasn't happy with the previous Four Friends product, but wanted to give them another chance. This one is much better. It's a deep red. There isn't any real lacing. It has a sweet malt backbone. Maybe a bit too sweet. Could have used more hops. Not sure if that is just my palate speaking. I like a hoppier red. It has a decent mouthfeel. All in all, it was much better than their pale. But, I wonder why they don't think a bit outside the box. This is a sweeter version of a typical red. That's why I gave it a plus average rating.

Had on tap at the Tilted Kilt in Charlotte. Served in a pint glass.

Pours a slightly cloudy ruby red color with some brownish highlights. The bartenders overly careful pour produced a minimal amount of head that disappeared almost immediately leaving behind no real lacing to speak of.

The nose is roasted grains and sweet caramel malt. No real hop presence to speak of. A slight fruity aroma seems to be lurking in the background and is just barely noticable.

The taste is sweet and slightly toasty. The caramel malts work well with the bready malt qualities to produce a nice smooth flavor. Like the nose there is no real hop presence, not that an Irish Red Ale should be a hop bomb, but I prefer a bit of hops to balance out the sweetness. Medium bodied and mildly carbonated with a smooth/creamy mouthfeel. Quite drinkable, nice beer to have around as an everyday beer.

Had on tap last night at the Flying Saucer -- Charlotte, NC location. Poured into a room temperature pint glass.
Pours a deep beautiful brown/black color with a luxurious white head and a small amount of lacing. Smells of sweet toffee, malts, and a slight hint of chocolate. Tastes like a representative of its style although somewhat sweeter. You can taste toasted barley, great malt character, toffee, and subdued chocolate in the background. Mouthfeel is medium and very smooth.
