Love the look to the place. The beer selection was good, but no dark beers. We only had one dish so we really dont know how good or bad the food really is, but we thought it satisfactory. Definitely impressed by the bartender and his knowledge of the beer. Would recommend you check it out.

Of the three, yes I said three brew pubs in Wausau this was the only one we hadn't been to. Thankfully we had time on our way back from a trip up north to stop in and check it out. Glad we did.
Absolutely beautiful building. Gigantic space to say the least. Immaculate as most Great Danes are. We decided to sit in the beer garden. The server was super friendly and chatted with us about our recent trip and the beer scene in Wisconsin. We ordered some beers and food and were very happy with both. We had the beer engine selection. Which happened to be an English mild brewed with maple syrup. Awesome!
No real surprise that this place is top notch. I've been to several of the Great Danes and have yet to leave unhappy. If you are looking for good food and good beer this place will fit the bill.

Stopped there for food on a Tuesday night.
As previous reviewers had mentioned, the place is packed. This is surprising particularly considering it is a very large place, in a relatively small town. Multiple rooms, with two bars.
The usual ambiance of the great Dane, which I happen to like. As good as it can get for a large place.
Food is well above average pub fare. Service is courteous, but I am not sure how knowledgeable (see my beer reviews); still have to find out about the proper classification of the beers.
The selection is decent as they have at least a stout, a pilsner, wheat, bock, light beer(!), scotch ale, but as it was my opinion in previous visits, the regular line-up is not particularly good, so it depends on having special releases. This time they had the Uber Bock which was quite tasty.
Price is above average for the location.
All in all, might be the best place in the region, if not particularly outstanding. Lets hope they keep doing special releases here as well.

Stopped here after a visit to the the Red Eye Brewery. For a Thursday night, this place was really busy! They have two large bars and both were filled with people...no empty seats at the bar. They also have large booths in the dining area...we were lucky enough to be able to snag a booth. The beer selection was larger than the Red Eye but I don't feel the quality was quite as good. That being said, the beer was still excellent. I was excited about trying the Imperial but they had just emptied the last keg and were out...maybe next time.
The Great Dane has a great ambiance and they served their beer in Great Dane nonics (would love to get my hands on one of those...maybe I'll inquire about buying one next time I'm there). We didn't eat at the Great Dane but I would like to try their food next time I'm there. I would definitely recommend a trip to the Dane to all of my friends.

Had Sunday brunch and dinner here on the way to and from the Packer v Vikes game. Very similar to other Great Dane's. However, this took over a grill your own steak place and is quite large. It has a HUGE sunday brunch and would highly ressomend it!
The beer was out of sight. Large selection and above average quality.
2 bars with dark wood a brass, a large parking lost and good service are noted. Since it was a Sunday the vibe was not too crazy, but it was fun and I struck coversations with a few folks at the bar.
If you find yourself in Wausau, I don't see why you would not visit this great brewpub!

Stopped for lunch here while driving through town. Beautiful building which they totally restored, it was previously Hereford & Hops. I sat at the bar and had great service, then again there was only me at the bar for most of my lunch.
Excellent menu with typical brewpub food plus some very interesting dishes. I had the Inner Warmth Peanut Stew served over rice with beer bread and it was outstanding.
I started with the IPA, it was quite delicious, really enjoyed it. Then had the seasonal which was a souped up version of their scotch ale called Super Stone of Scone Scotch Ale and it was delicious, nice enough for me to buy a growler of it to go.
It was a pleasant lunch at a decent place. Never made it here while it was Hereford & Hops (though I frequent the one in Escanaba, MI and it's fantastic). Glad I stopped in to check it out even though I've been to the Madison location.

I stopped in while in Wausau on business. Some locals recommended The Great Dane as a good place for beer so we checked it out.
The atmosphere is a bit formal but still comfortable and attractive. The decor is right out of an old English pub with dark woods and low lighting. The brass Great Dane tap heads make a nice touch. There are several different areas within the place including a couple of bar areas with a mix of bars, table seating, couches and chairs. I didn't really see much of the dining areas. The main bar area has lots of games with a few pool tables, electronic darts and a shuffle board table.
They had 10+ of their own beers on tap. I had an IPA, a cask porter and a scotch ale. All were good. The service was good. The bartenders and waitress were all very attentive. We had the fried cheese curds (a local dish) and they were very good.
We tried all three brewpubs in Wausau and I thought The Great Dane was by far the best.
