12oz bottle at fridge temp poured into a Sam Adams glass. "brewed in rochester" on the neck (by non other than genesee brewing of course...).
pours a super clear, golden, almost yellowish color. about one fingers worth of pure white head, faded to a thin yet retentive layer. some sporadic lacing. lots of carbonation bubbles.
mineral lager yeast, a bit of mineral water, and maybe a hint of sweet, corny malt.
mineral water, slightly sweet malt, hints of corn. a bit of tart apple and the slightest hint of lemon towards the finish.
light bodied, high carbonation, slight watery feel.
not really an impressive beer, but easy to quaff during the summer. i wouldnt be surprised if this is just regular genny with a different label... tastes very similar.

Straight pour from a 16oz can to my DFH IPA glass; canning date and time of 11:48AM, May 15, 2013 printed in black ink on the underside of the can in a Julian variant (“1363 11:48”). So, two weeks old to the day. ‘GANSETT SO FRESHDAMN.
Appearance (3.25): A good three fingers of bone-white head rises off o the pour, capping a pure, 24ct gold-colored body, crystal-clear. Retention is very modest and the head dies down quickly, but it leaves some okay lacing around the edge of the glass at first.
Smell (3.75): This has a nice mix of malt and hops for the style—some very pale barley, some cooked rice, and unsweetened oatmeal, mixed with some lemony, grassy hop aromas. Both malt and hops are restrained and subtle,
Taste (4.0): On the palate, ‘Gansett Lager has less hop character than in the aroma, showing more of a crisp, lagered malt body: lightly sweet white bread, a bit of corn syrup, and some lemony, slightly grassy hop flavor and bitterness toward the finish. It fits the style, but avoids the kind of iced-down, cooked-vegetable water character that most macros carry. It finishes very light and not quite dry, with a lightly sweet malt note that carries through, in spite of the grassy / lemony hops. Very refreshing.
Mouthfeel (3.75): The beer offers a modest carbonation that fizzles quickly and dies out before too long. The body stays on the lighter side of medium-weight, and finishes relatively dry. Fits the style. This is very easy to drink, and coming in a 16oz can, it’s really great drinking.
Overall (3.75): Pretty much fits the AAL profile, to a T, but it does so in a much more satisfying way than the standard watered-down, fizzy yellow macro. It doesn’t blow anyone away, but it does what it’s supposed to do well, and in a much more satisfying way than any macro AAL.
