Color – Nice amber

Flavor This is a malt forward beer as it should be. It has a nice balanced flavor there are some roasted notes. There is not much hop flavor to it, but what is there does a nice balancing act.

Overall- I like this beer. It certainly exceed my expectations coming out of a tall boy can. It also exceeded by expectations given previous negative experiences with bocks. A beer as malt forward as this could, and many do, turn almost cough medicine tasting, but they do a nice job of letting the malt be the star without giving a syrupy sensation. This is a very successful beer, and in fact one I would encourage because it is good and because it breaks a lot of stereotypes.

Just saw this one today at my local bottle shop. Poured into a Smithwicks Draught mug and was rewarded with a nice off white collar of rocky foam about 3 fingers high sitting over clear medium amber/gold beer. I get sweet malt, a nutty, and grassy note, fragrant and flowery yet subtle hoppiness in the nose. Average mouthfeel. Superbly balanced, neither very sweet or very bitter...layer of malt backing gives way to the hop bitterness, just enough to let you know it's there but not the dominant flavor. Finishes flowery-bitter with a biscuity flourish. Very nice take on the Bock style and well worth the effort to find it. Love the can graphics too. See it? Buy it!

A big thanks to angrybabboon for sending me this a while back. Poured out of a 16oz can into a stange glass.

Pours a surprisingly hazy, cloudy reddish deep amber complete with a large 4-5 egg-white beaten finger of head, so much to the point that I had to do multiple pours of this (although that could be due to the glass I'm using). The head remains for a very long time, still remaining thick and creamy throughout. Lots of carbonation glide up this for a long while until the head eventually disappears. Pretty sure this was "can-conditioned" given the appearance and heavy carbonation with each bubble... But looks quite good, especially for a bock-style.

The aroma is a pungent, sweetened caramel flavor right at the front of the nose, followed by a toasted bready character, slight bitterness, and sadly, and off-metallic flavor that is quickly masked up by the relatively high ABV. This is most definitely a malt focused beer, with an alcohol-soaked caramelized flavor at the forefront. Slight earthy, grassy phenols appear. There's a little bit of yeastiness makes this slightly fruity and full-bodied, although that corn-like, near metallic flavor is really throwing off what's otherwise a solid bock offering. Hope this isn't affected in the aroma.

Luckily there's no metallic feature to be found in the flavor, and otherwise, it ends up being a tasty and well rounded bock! At the front of the tongue there's a sweetened, caramel focused malt flavor, with a slight toasted graininess, fruits ranging from apples to pears (maybe plums), and some spices such as clove and maybe rosemary. As soon as the malt flavors go away, there's a bittered, earthy aftertaste left behind, combined with slightly bittered notes, and a lingering sweetness left by the alcohol. Slightly grassy finish as well, if I may say. Very raw overall. Quite creamy at first, and eventually quite syrupy as the carbonation starts to die down. The sweetness never becomes cloying, but the extra alcohol does become a little too much over time as the body of the beer warms up.

Another solid offering from this brewery. Never had a canned bock beer before, and in spite of the metallic notes in the aroma, this is a rustic, raw, and satisfying take on the style and quite easy to drink even with its strong malt focus. For a style I barely drink, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

bought as a single 16 oz can from Beers of the World for $ 1.85 on 4/29/13.

poured into a mug, served at fridge temp.

appearance: orangish amber with a thick dollop of shortbread khaki head. Great lacing.

aroma: sweet caramel.

mouthfeel: solid.

taste: nice bready malt, caramel, noble hops at the end provide the counterpoint to the sweetness.

notes: unbelievably tasty. I'm going back to the store tonight for more.

Poured first in a balloon glass then in a stein. The stein is a better glass-
It gives the beer a fuller, more malty, less bitter taste.
The color was an attractive amber with a 2 f head which resolves itself to less
than 1/2 f.

The aroma intensifies with warming- a touch of sweet fruit and malt .

The mouth feel is smooth, and enhances the drinking experience of the beer.

The taste is fruity, malty, only slightly bitter.

It was difficult to find this beer. Excellent New England beer and rebrewing of a classic.
