I stopped into Appalachian Vintners last Saturday after a day at the Biltmore Estate with my wife and daughter. It was my reward for good behaving while touring the house and gardens.
Appalachian Vintners just moved into this space and it shows it. The store is big with large windows which allow lots of natural light in. The store isn't packed with shelves and it seemed a little empty to me.
As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by an employee who asked me if they could be of assistance. I told him I was in the market for local beers and he pointed me in that direction. He also gave a few recommendations on his Asheville (and NC in general favorites). The advice was much appreciated and not overbearing in the least bit.
The selection was quite good particularly when it came to NC beers...Olde Hickory, French Broad, Foothills, etc. There were lots of American craft standards as well New Belgium, Smuttynose, Stone, Allagash, Victory, Troegs and so on. I ended up with some bombers from the three aforementioned North Carolinia breweries.
Overall, Appalachian Vintners is a must stop in the Asheville area. Great selection and impeccable service.

Just did an order online for shipping. Excellent selection and was able to land Black Ops, Imperial Biscotti, and Bad Baptist among some others I can’t find here in Florida. Great selection, although the website does list a bunch of beers they don’t have in stock. Boxing/shipping was pricey but that comes with the territory of mail order. Beer prices themselves seemed about where they should be I guess. Quick and easy shipping. Gotta love mail order for out-of-dist stuff.

Wow what a big store. Off the beaten path but worth a visit.
Everything you can possibley want or can get in North Carolina is in this huge beer/wine store. Also a crap ton of glassware in the front to the left if that's your thing.
Service was awesome, they held some beers for me to come back and get while I was finishing my run.
Prices were appropriate and seemed in line with average.

This is a big store, with the majority of it covered in wine bottles, beer in the back. The beer selection is huge. All of the NC breweries and just about everything that is shipped to NC, good international selection as well.
I also enjoyed being able to order a beer at the bar while shopping, and my wife enjoyed the nice comfortable couch to sit on.
Service was ok, the guy working the bar seemed kind of dry. I tried to start a conversation and ask for a few brewery recommendations around town, but didn't really get much in return. This is the one area that Bruisin' Ales excelled in, awesome customer service. Vintner is however a bit cheaper than Bruisn' Ales.
Overall this is definitely worth a stop if you are in Asheville.

This place should be your first stop in Asheville. They mostly have wine, but their beer selection is huge, too. There is some glassware and a few beer specials at the front of the store (including a bargain bin) and a beer bar and bottles at the back. There's also a cooler with some cold beer and a good selection of local growlers, as well.
I found some really great beers and one of the guys walked around with me and pointed out some of his favorites in various styles which really helped considering all the local stuff I was unfamiliar with. You can grab a beer from the bar and shop while you drink, or take your beer out to their outside patio around back. The best part is, their prices are the cheaper than Bruisin' Ales, which should definitely be your second stop in Asheville. This place has it all.
