Availability: Rotating. on-tap (3)

Notes:
A Broadway Brewery staple, this crisp, earthy, well-balanced ale is brewed with Mt. Hood, Northern Brewer and Cascade (Dry Hopped) varietals. Spicy and peppery with malt undertones, this beer has a drier finish than its barley comrades.

A - Poured a somewhat cloudy, orange color with a small, bubbly head of off-white, foam. It left nice sticky rings of lace.

S - It smelled floral with strong citrus notes. Also, a good deal of rye bread-like aromas.

T - It tasted like an IPA with rye. Malty and rich rye flavors with a fairly strong bitter hoppiness.

M - It was crisp and sharp with a dry finish. A medium-bodied ale.

D - This was really good. I can see myself stopping by here often for this one.

Pours a cloudy, maize/orange color. 1/4 inch head of an off-white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of hops, yeast, slight rye, and slight sweet malt. Fits the style of a Rye Beer. Mouth feel is smooth and slightly thick with a low carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt up front, then hops, and rye in the background. Overall, a rather subtle, smooth, and complex Rye IPA. As far as Rye IPA's go this is the best I've ever had.

Presentation: 16oz pint, poured from tap

Appearance: Hazy dark golden ale, capped with a fluffy, creamy 2-finger head which soon fades to a thick sticky film with some really nice lace.

Smell: Sweet caramel, mild citrusy hops, some light estery aromas...cleaner than I expected overall

Taste: Some fruity/piney hops up front combine with a SPICY, dry/bready rye kick...medium levels of citrusy hop bitterness on the finish...the spiciness is kinda unexpected here, but is quite nice

Mouthfeel: Really rich and creamy; again, surprising

Drinkability: Medium-high

Conclusion: A bit outside what I was expecting from a rye beer, but the spiciness, the creamy body, and the hops go well together...all together, this is unique and interesting.
