Appearance: Dark Amber/Brown Color, 1 - 1.5 finger head with some lacing

Smell: Carmelly, hoppy, scent

Taste: A bitterness on the front of the tongue, moving to citrus and floral tones.

Mouthfeel: A little watery, but still quite smooth.

Overall: A nice hoppy beer that pairs very well with pizza.

Wow, judging by the sales-floor visibility and the talk, I'd say the Binny's foray into a "house label" (one that was already available in other chains in other states...) hasn't been much of a success. Oh well... This stuff pours a clear brass topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises dry biscuit, old greens, and brown grass that's finally free to drink in the sunlight after suffering for months beneath a few inches of snow, but is too weak to do so right away. The hop presence is minimal at best and meek when it's there. The taste brings in more of the same, though that biscuit is now thoroughly buttered, and the greens are a touch brighter, having not spent as much time untouched in the fridge. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a lightly watery feel. Overall, a sad little pale ale, proof positive of why this brand seems to have died a quiet, unmourned death around here.

This beer poured out as a hazy copper color with a thin white head on top. The retention is thin and a very light lacing. There is a good amount of floating flakes in this beer also. The smell is malty, very subtle hop aroma if any at all. The taste is moderately balanced with malt and hops. The mouthfeel of the beer is light bodied with a subtle crisp finish. Overall it's a decent brew, nothing too special though.

Picked up a bottle of Barrel Trolley's Pale Ale off the singles shelf at the nearby Binnys. The beer pours a pale yellow with thin white head that is leaving a nice lace. The scent is bolstered by subtle fresh hops. The taste is a nice balance between the malts and hops. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with decent carbonation. Overall it's decent...reminds more of a blonde ale than pale ale. Would be fine as a session ale.

Bottle poured into a nonic pint glass. Bottle reads brewed in Rochester, NY which conflicts with the info above.

A - Pours a dark gold and slightly hazy with a one finger head that dissipates quickly in a thin cap. Minimal lacing.

S - Mainly malt in the nose. Some caramel, mostly bread very faint hop aroma.

T - Sweet malt upfront and in the middle, finishes with a hint of bitterness. Caramel notes. Not a lot going on in the flavor.

M - Light to medium body and carbonation, smooth easy drinker.

O - Average pale ale. Nothing that stands out but nothing off putting either.

Bottle label states "brewed by World Brews, Rochester NY" - so unsure whether the Californian version would be different. Not a bad beer and reasonably true to style, but not one of which I'll rush out to buy more.

Pours a light amber with little head, no lacing and limited carbonation. Slicker mouthfeel than style, ABV or hoppiness warrants. The mild and malt-forward aroma has a staleness that may be the result of age, but as the bottle was purchased this afternoon from a reputable store and there's no date indication on the bottle - and it's missing the faded hop bloodiness of an older, well hopped beer - I'm assuming this is fresh. Flavour is also mild, caramelized malted sweetness followed by a simple bitterness of a hop that I can't name. No "west coast" elements, which although traditional for the style, won't make it my favourite.

Would consider this a decent transition beer to bring macro red drinkers one step closer to the craft world...

A- A perfectly clear copper tinged gold with lots of carbonation bubbles. 1 inch of head sticks around leaving some lacing.

S- Caramel, wood, pine and a little lemon.

T- A bit of a weird mix. Peppery and lemongrass hoppiness up the front with a big sweet middle and a moderately bitter finish with tinges of aspirin, fruit and tannin.

M- Thin and crisp, could use more body to help it be less puckering and more mouth filling.

O- This one started off with a lot of promise, it looked good and smelled good. There's just something off with the mix of the taste. Not terrible but the bitterness isn't as clean and smooth a finish as it should be.

Bottle into nonic pint.

Thin, kinda watery, and somewhat overcarbonated.

Very clear pale golden color. Weak head, poor retention, and no lacing.

Smells and tastes lightly malty, a bit of sweetness, and a chalky feel on the finish. Very mild bitterness-- like the hops were a skipped step in the recipe. Some very light floral and citrus notes can be found.

Overall-- a very VERY unimpressive pale ale. I'm not looking forward to the ipa! This seems like an attempt from a BMC company at creating a "craft label."

12oz bottle, a single from one outlet of the local liquor store monopoly. This one is from Rochester, NY, yet still brewed by World Brews.

This beer pours a hazy medium golden straw colour, with two fingers of puffy, foamy dirty white head, which leaves a decent array of coral reef lace around the glass as it duly recedes.

It smells of semi-sweet generic citrus fruit, an underlying musty yeastiness, faint grainy malt, and a further herbal medicinal hop character. I wonder which of the '3' different hops that is? The taste is thin, stale bready malt, more yeasty, musty citrus fruit pith, and a weird herbal, weedy hoppiness, which is damned near devoid of bitterness.

The carbonation is quite laid back, no sass there, and no surprise, the body a lulling medium weight, and whose clamminess is starting to seem like the calling card of this whole affair - so smooth, yes, but with the standing caveat. It finishes off-dry, the neutered malt and still prominent yeasty, herbal, bland fruitiness having their way.

Everything seems rather disjointed, unbalanced, and jerky, not to mention just plain boring. A beer designed by committee, this is. No inspiration, no chances taken, and no fun. And certainly a hell of lot more than 6.99 a sixer in my neck of the woods.
