On tap at the brewpub. The beer pours a dark brown to black color with an off-white head. The aroma is heavy on the chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is more of the same. The dry chocolate really stands out and goes well with the roasted malt. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. The best of the five Blue Star beers that were on tap.

It is a dark amber color, but not black, I can see through it pretty well, there is head at all.
It smells mildly chocolaty and malty, nothing really strong or memorable.
It tastes really malty but there are a little bit of hops that linger around. It has pretty low carbonation, goes down smooth.

It was almost pitch black, similar to coffee.
The aroma was a little weak but it was on the malty side.
Blue Star described it as an Irish Dry Stout and the waitress said it was similar to Guinness. I thought it was better. This one tasted like an iced beer coffee, and it wasn't watery like Guinness. There was a slight hopped bitterness giving it a pale aftertaste. Overall a very refreshingly simple stout that I would have again if I go back.

A: Pours a dark brown color with some ruby highlights. A small beige head forms with poor retention, and no lace.
S: Roasted malt and light chocolate up front. Burnt coffee.
T: Lightly roasted malt with acrid and astringent coffee. Light chocolate lingers.
M/D: A light body and almost under carbonated. Thin and watery. Not bad, but I don't really want more than one.
Not really up to snuff. A cask ale. I love cask beers, but this is not really that good on cask.

Poured to a dark brown-black with medium thick tan head that dissipated and left okay lacing. A hint of sweet chocolate was in the nose and it carried over into the taste. Unfortunately, the mouthfeel was very thin and watery, which ultimately took away from the joys of the malty choclate. Finish, as expected from the mouth, was short and disappointing.

Poured a pint with nice tan 1 inch head that stayed to the very end. Medium carbonation , black body with great lacing through out
Smells of burnt mocha malts , and some slight hops
Taste is mostly of burnt malts but mixed with cream and a light bitter after taste
Mouth feel is amazing. Creamy but not too heavy. Carbonation is nice, not too carbonated but not flat.
Drinkability is great. Isnt filling at all , could drink many at a time. Way better than Guiness in my opinion, my favorite offering from Blue star

This stout pours a solid black color with a thick inch of foam on top that hangs around for quite a while. Smell is of roasted malts with some chocolate mixed in. Taste is similar, lots of roasted flavor, with some chocolate, coffee, and licorice blended into the background. It's smooth and almost creamy, similar to a Guinness, but with a bit more flavor. Very easy to drink, and fairly enjoyable.

This beer comes as advertised in that it is a creamy, robust Irish style dry stout. The beer has a very, very creamy head that laces like mad, leaving a film all over the glass. The beer retains a long time as well. The aroma of this beer is mocha and coffee. I had this beer as part of their sampler and it was a nice change up. The taste is clearly burnt, roasted malts, chocolate, coffee ... very typical for the style. The finish to this beer was a bit unique in that it had a pronounced dry hoppiness and an aftertaste of bittering malt. This is a nice beer from Blue Star and well worth trying.

Smooth nitro tapped stout. I really don't care too much for nitro, I think it takes a certain crispness away from beer and gives it a cheap sort of smooth creaminess.
This beer had one hell of an appearance. Nice thick black beer with insane head and retention.
Smell is of roasted malts. Some licorice notes come out as well.
Taste is of roasted malts. Somewhat thin on the malts and the hops are faint.
Mouthfeel is a cheap tyipcal nitro mouthfeel.
This beer is decent. Sort of like a guiness really.

Reviewed from notes. Served on-tap at the Blue Star Brewery, in a pint glass. The beer was a opaque black, with a 1/4 inch head and nice cascading effect. The aroma was very light, but still had the familiar roasted malt and coffee aromas present. The taste was fantastic. This stout had alot of flavor, mainly from the roasted malt giving it a very chocolaty/coffee flavor. The taste reminded me more of a porter than a stout, but I LOVED it nonetheless. Very smooth mouthfeel and finish. Overall, I could easily have several of these in one sitting. Of the beers that I've tried at Blue Star, this was my favorite so far.

The beer arrived on the table with a cascading nitro effect but became black and translucent with a tan and frothy head which lasted well to lace the glass.
The aroma was roasty and toasty with coffee and a nice fruity component that became even more roasty as the beer warmed.
The flavor contained some acidity from the dark grains with an acrid character and an expresso flavor. Also present was a light fruitiness.
The finish was dry, BONE dry with a lasting roast into the aftertaste. The body was medium light or just a bit less. The aroma was well done, but the flavor could certainly use a boost.
This is a dry stout!

Blue Star's Stout is dark brown in color with a strong creamy head that never goes away. Thick lacings remained on the insides of my pint glass. I'm thinking the super creamy head is a product on nitro-tap, but I'm not sure. The aroma is a standard roasted smell, inviting, but not very strong. Taste is of roasted malts with chocolate notes, the finish concludes with a nice jolt of hoppiness. Overall the taste might be just a little watery. Mouthfeel is very creamy (nitro-tap?). Blue Star's Stout is a very good beer, however I see ample room for improvement.

Had this on-tap at the Blue Star Brewing Co. Of the three beers they had available, this one was by far the best. Very dark in color, with a thin creamy persistent head. The roasted malt flavor on this stout was outstanding. For as dark as this beer was, it has a relatively light mouthfeel. This isn't a beer for the shy.
