Portland, Oregon is blessed with three of the finest bottleshop/tap rooms I've ever had the pleasure of visiting, and The Beer Mongers stands among them. Though not as comprehensive as, say, Belmont Station, it's still a fine place to have a beer you've never tried before. The staff is very friendly, and they obviously take beer very seriously. Great place to watch the game, too. Highly recommended.

These guys cram a ton of beers into a very cozy space. Not as many as Belmont Station but seriously a lot of beers. They have a nice well selected draft list, not very many like under 10 drafts I'd say but all very good quality beers. There is no food at beermongers but thats ok you can brink food in if you like. The reason I like it here so much are the people working there all very knowlegeable and extremely friendly. The other would be that their prices seem lower than others in town. One of my favorite bottle shops in town. Another cool thing, like many other bottle shops and breweries in PDX they are crazy about the Portland Timbers MLS so they will have the place decorated in Timbers colors and memorabilia. They have been showing soccer here I think every time I've stopped in which is cool.

Best place in PDX - all bartenders are extremely knowledgeable - there usually always IPA, Saison/Cider and Stout/Lagers on tap. They do not serve food but allow you to bring food in from neighboring food joints and occasionally the tamales-guy stops by. They show all Timbers game and always have sports on. You are allowed to drink the bottles/cans you purchase at the bar. All taps can be had in tasters, 4oz, 12oz, 16oz (+32oz and 64oz and growlers to go)

Wonderful bottle shop. They have a little taproom as well. It’s seriously cool and is unpretentious. They like to trade. We brought a really rare Chicago beer and literally got a tin sign off the wall. I liked it a bit more than belmont station. Not because belmont station isn’t wonderful. But because they aren’t quite as big and you can chat a bit better with the guys. Beermongers is right across the street from APEX, so you can make a night out of it. (Also not too far from Cascade and Green Dragon).

Saw some recommendations for this place and seeing how we were across the street earlier at APEX, decided to swing in to browse the to go beer selection. A couple of people were at the bar enjoying there brews, but I didn't take a glance at the list as that was not our intention. Upon searching the coolers of brew available to take home, it became evident that these guys only sell bombers of beer. Okay, fine, but I like the sixer/four pack option a bit more as I intended to bring some home to share with others and price wise it's a better option. Honestly, I don't think I saw anything but bombers here and the selection was fine, but nothing compared to Belmont Stations which isn't too far away. Of the four of us, not one person asked if we needed help finding anything. Maybe it was just the one person working the bar, but a quick holler to see if we needed anything would have sufficed. Took our business elsewhere.

Our first stop on our walking tour of beer venues in the SE. Arrived around 11:30 am on a Tuesday, not surprisingly we were the only ones there. We had the Breakside IPA, the only IPA on. It was good so we each decided to have one. We sat and ate our breakfast burrito from across the street.
We checked out the bottle selection, but were not in the market to buy with a long day ahead. The Beermonger was extremely busy stocking the beer the whole time we were there, so aside from "do you want another beer" there was zero interaction. Thankfully not the norm for our experience in Portland as a whole. Moving on.

This was my first time on the west coast and was recommended by locals here, the 1st place I stocked up on at beers. The prices were reasonable for the beers I purchased. Good west coast and local selection. A place to drink at and bring out and its right across the street from another great bar.

Solid store - despite it's convenient (to the City) location, I had never actually been in here, but rather utilized Belmont Station for most of my purchasing needs.
its proximity to Apex (beerbar) is well documented - parking can be tricky but theres plenty of street parking within a few blocks.
A modest # of taps (8, I believe) and a small sitting area. There seemed to be a bit less beer than over at Belmont but there were some definite random treasures to be found - block 15, an ale apothecary release, etc accompanied the usual suspects in the area (deschutes, hotd, russian river, alesmith) and loads of random oregon stuff. I appreciated scoring a barrel aged stout from Ægir Bryggeri as well - had never seen that stuff in the States.
Solid store - have added to the rotation

Summary: Small taproom feel, great bottle selection, great taps.
You Portlandians are so spoiled. Not only are there outstanding bottle shops strategically located around the city, but they serve beer, too! I don't go to Portland as often as I'd like, but when I do, I try to bring home a bomber or two (or 20, as it were, on this trip). BeerMongers is the second such establishment I've been able to visit this year (I was at Belmont Station in February or March). BeerMongers was a nice contrast. The small West Coast taproom vibe of BeerMongers distinguishes it from Belmont Station's East Coast neighborhood bar/liquor store feel. If I wasn't meeting a colleague for lunch, I would have stuck around long and sampled what they had on tap. I had superb service from both places. The the lone salesperson at BM was able to help me pick out a good representation of exactly what I was looking for. And, as selection goes, there was more than enough to keep me happy. I was focused on the local and small distribution breweries, but there were many others US and non-US beers that would have made it to my checked baggage, if I had infinite room, beer fridge space, and money (like Russian River, Uinta, and Southern Tier, none of which I can get back home).
Maybe it's a good thing I don't get here too often. I'd be fatter (and poorer) than I am now. Definitely a place worth returning to.

From texas and the sale staff there is amazing they have a wonderful selection and try to be as accomodating as possible. They helped me score many great beers over the last 2 yrs including the latest 09 bourbonic. They currently have about 525 bottles tucked away for sale and more cellered for future release. If your hunting the hard to fine look no further, put in a call or drop by. The place gave me the feeling you get going in to a nice vinyl record shop, you could browse and admire for a while. It is hard to go and only get one bottle you will come across others that you wanted, didnt know you wanted or through their great advice we be talked into getting. you wont be disappointed. thanks alot
