After a week in West Texas, it was an amazing experience to wander into Pinkie's. It really is a great beer selection, considering the uninspiring amount of actual Texas beers. They did have about as good a selection of the locals as I found anywhere in the state. Big selection of Colorado brews from many breweries. Top rated craft breweries from all over are well represented. Lots of imports.
Lots of variety, clean, and inviting place. Attractive deli section. Enthusiastic staff, though I didn't ask any beer questions.
San Angelo itself is definitely worth a detour if you're driving through Texas. One great little brewpub, other good bar selections, a great liquor store, a river walk, art museum, and interesting historic downtown.

Pinkie's has two locations in San Angelo, and both feature a great selection of beer, as well as having wine and hard liquor. Their beer selection is well above average for anywhere, let alone a relatively small town isolated in west Texas. They've got lots of standby stuff from the big brewers and some local beers, especially Shiner; but the stores also have a varied collection of German brews to include Franziskaner, Paulaner, Erdinger, Wiehanstephan; Belgians such as Chimay and Lindemann's but also Maredsous and some others; English and Irish: Sam Smith, Newcastle, Killian's; and plenty of American craft breweries such as Breckenridge, Rogue, Stone, etc. I was very impressed to find as broad a selection as they had, and the main store also has some sausage, cheese, glassware, etc.
